Enlisted 2.0 – Historical and Balanced concept. With UK, Italy and France

Hi!

This thread is a continuation of the ideas expressed in my original thread Enlisted that Could Have Been – Ultimate WW2 Game Concept – you will find the general thematic approach there.

Disclaimer

  1. This thread is just a mental exercise. I am aware that nothing like this will be done (we don’t have the playerbase, nobody likes low BR, etc. etc. – I know) The devs are set on making a 1:1 ‘balance’ system with 4 nations x 5 BRs.
  2. In order to get the idea of this thread you’ll need to forget Enlisted gun stats. Please don’t tell me “weapon X is so imbalanced against weapon Y” – you’re thinking about “Enlisted Weapon X” performance, which is not the only one possible: damage, recoil, spread, reload speed can all be adjusted and balanced accordingly (look at BFV: STG-44, Sten, Suomi, MP-40, Type 100 are all playable).
  3. This is not a finalized spreadsheet with all the content from the game, just a general layout.

Purpose

  1. This mental exercise shows how it is indeed (could have been) possible to have a balanced and historical game with BRs, debunking the notorious “history ruins balance” narrative.
  2. There are no prototypes or paper equipment used at all.
  3. If anything at all comes out of it, even an event or custom mode, that would already be a win.

General Ideas

  1. Each Faction’s BR is tied to a predetermined set of Theaters (e.g. BR1 Germany can fight against France on “Battle of France 1940” maps or against the Soviets on “Eastern Front” maps.
  2. There are no specific years, battles or cities because those are the ones that inevitably lead to imbalances/anachronisms (e.g. Kursk 1943 IRL was Panthers, Tigers and Ferdinands against T-34-76).
  3. Instead all we have is Theaters like “Battle of France 1940” or “Eastern Front 1941-45”.
  4. Japan, UK, Italy and France are capped at BR2 only (like Japan is currently capped at BR3). Higher tier British equipment like Sherman Firefly go inside USA tech tree with (UK) tag and a British crew.
  5. BR ±0 matchmaking is enforced in cases like Khalkhin Gol 1939 since only USSR BR1 and Japan BR1 have it assigned to them.

What we get as a Result:

  1. No time travelling gear – “low tier” German Pz IV F2 doesn’t time travel to 1940 to fight against France
  2. No wrong theater gear – Gewehr 41, Puma or Pz 38(t), which were never used in North Africa, don’t appear there.
  3. Unmatched variety among any other WW2 game on the market, with 7 unique factions instead of the 4 that we have now, with both Balance and Historical authenticity.

Thank you for your attention.

Looking forward to constructive feedback!

I want enlisted to be historically accurate but you know I know everyone knows that will never happen

Some question

Werent these obsolete in 1944 or atleast very rare?

I thought only marines and british used them because they were unreliable. Did they see service in late war western front?

As I mention:

I am specifically not putting any years to gear use, just general Theaters.

But since you’re asking – rare indeed, but not impossible to see PPD in late war:

Sorry I forgot Lol

But isnt that ppd 40? It is an later model so it is more likely to appear than ppd 34 38. Also what about the 50 round tommy? Was it used alongside with pershings and late war gear? I would be interested to know

Probably PPD-40, yes. I guess I could swap 34/38 for 40 in my spreadsheet as well.

Probably not widespread, but it existed by that time and wasn’t anything like a failed prototype.

Okay thanks for the info. But wouldnt drum tommy break rule 2 then if there is no documented use in europe?

It looks like the magazine sits between the wooden handles so it would be ppd40
But the magazine below the gun hes carrying seems to have some sort of tower thing which was necessary for 34/38
Could be somekind of carrying system too no idea.

Good catch.

I’m not an expert in US weapons, I was sure drums were rarely but used in Europe. If not – it can be removed, of course.

I love historical accuracy. Good idea.

Now place your bets, how long until the clan and “min-max balance” nerds start trash talking in the comments?

bold choice to give Germany two MG’s at BR5
i mean the MG42 and FG-42 are great machine guns
or are you including a specialist weapon for paratroopers
in all seriousness ending the us rifle tech tree at br3 and letting germany continue to br5?
yes the us gets the garand and germany gets the
gw41 gw43 and fg-42?
then giving Germany the Tiger 2 and Jagpanter
while giving the us BR4 tanks masquerading as br5
i assume this comes with an upgrade for free to play of a second vehicle slot so they can bring planes

Japan, UK, Italy and France are capped at BR2 only (like Japan is currently capped at BR3).
great way to kill the Japanese faction

Forget about current Enlisted weapon effectiveness for a minute, they are not set in stone.

In BFV M3 Grease Gun and STG-44 are both Assault weapons and both are viable.

Do you have another suggestion without prototypes, paper and fakes? I"m all years for constructive ideas.

ok make the BAR a ‘SF’ at BR5
OK list three op guns that the us has excluding a certain BR2 Thompson with 30 rounds
i never once mentioned the STG-44
The FG-42 was an excellent paratrooper lmg

yeah remove japan it will make balancing much easier
remove qs improve wait times
because a japan that ends at br2 is not worth playing

wow i can play an entire squad in battlefield 5, there different games otherwise you would have gotten rid of brs all together. the garand is not a counter to a lmg fg42. maybe in solo but there is a reason it went away. if you want this disaster in solo if it comes back i approve for a game mode i would never play.

An M3 going against an STG44 will get you smoked you would need to rebalance every gun in the game. so where is the entire overhaul of how every weapon works to go with this new system. and where is the M2 carbine at br4, where is the M1 carbine.

As I said, this is just a concept, not a finalized re-balance paper with every single digit changed.

Never used in Europe, absent.

The list is not exhaustive. I guess put it on BR2 then.

a ‘historical’ massively favors Germany that made limited numbers of powerful weapons. we would also need a productions balance to balance historical weapons. Such as the FG42 2K FG42 2 4K GW41 100K GW3 400K, vs 3 Million M1 Garand and 6 million M1 carbines. BARS 100K Johnson LMG 9.65K, Johnson rifles 22k.

the FG42 is better compared against the BAR M1A2 or Johnson LMG than the garand or limited to being a paratooper weapon. yes the STG44 belongs where it is balance destroying and all but the FG42 was not an infantry rifle. remove the fg42 from rifleman means no longer need to T20 and the 50 round thomson can suffer against the STG44.

I’m all up for “out-of-the-box” ideas.

I was even thinking about including DP-27, MG-34, Type 11, etc. on BR1 because they were used at Khalkhin Gol / Eastern front at all times, the power of the MG was realized in WW1, and most nations went into WW1 with the focus on MGs.

But the MG/Infantry squads would be 1 MG guy and several bolt action guys helping him, which is more like what was happening IRL as well.

What kind of restriction fest is this? XD Something like that would never work.

Event ? Separate game mode ( Highly unlike )
In customs as mod ? Sure, since the modding tools were on roadmap last year or year before ?
They could finally grant those since it seems they themselfs have very little intrest to develope the game.

BUT to clarify, I do agree this wont work as main game mode.
