Its high time subfactions get properly concluded

Hello bajtársak and fellowforum dwellers,

This is a reupload of a old suggestion of mine, with certain aspects of it updated to the current state of the game.

I don’t agree with separating factions, because I enjoy mixing Italian and German units in my Axis deck, as well as I enjoy having British and US squads at the same time.
However the current system sucks and needs changing as quickly as possible.
Today I like to make both pro and anti faction separation camps happy with as little compromise as possible.

Rename Germany faction to Axis faction to better represent Italy as well.
Rename US faction to Western Allies faction to better represent Britain and France too.

1. The question of squads

1.0 Players must be able to recruit any squad of any nationality present in the faction.
This includes all of the squads from assaulter IV squad to medic squad, even mortar, rider and guerrilla squads in any nationality.
So all squads need to have Italian and British equivalents and players must be able to get them once they unlocked the equivalent squad in the tech tree.

There are three possible ways to do this:

1.1 The first possibility is letting people change the squad nationality in customization.

1.2 The second option is introducing a squad shop in which players can buy legacy squads as well as new Italian and British squads.

1.3 The Third idea is the introduction of squad creation by players for themselves.
The player would name the squad, choose the squad icon, choose the class and grade of the squad.
Certain limitations must apply such as the squad upgrades must be generic so they can not abuse game mechanics.
For history enjoyers and people who do not wish to spend much time with this, some realistic templates should exist for convenience.

*On a personal note, I would happily pay some gold if I could use premium squad icons, could set the base appearance of the squad and have access to premium squad cloths.

2. Regarding soldier nationality

2.0 A feature to change soldier nationality was added to the game which is good, but the system is imperfect. There is one very obvious issue with having to change each soldier manually and that is the inconvenience, I have many soldiers so it gets bothersome very quickly to find the one British guy I’m looking for.
This will only get more prominent in the future when more subfactions are added to the game.

2.1 The much better solution is changing the nationality of the soldier (assimilating him) to the nationality of the squad automatically by the system when he is placed into the squad.

2.2 Naturally BP soldiers and soldiers named with callsign orders do NOT change, but will still speak the same language as the rest of the squad for immersion.

3. Nation specific additions in the tech tree

3.0 The nation specific subtree holds weapons and vehicles unique to the nation.
Only squads of the same subfaction can use them, to maintain historical accuracy and make playing with different nation slightly more unique.

3.1 It’s completely separate from the main tech tree, not just Italy and Britain but also the US and Germany would have them.
This also helps to increase the size of the tech tree without bloating it.

3.2 Please note that this is just for show and I have moved nothing from the existing tech tree to the nation specific sub trees. Though I suppose it could be possible if there is high support for it.

3.3 The sub tree could have no requirements and special requirements to research equipment. Lets say P26/40 Pesante has no requirements thus once you unlock Axis tier II you can immediately start researching the P26/40. This isn’t a problem in case of vehicles since you can’t use the P26/40 until you unlock the tank squad for it.
Special requirements could be that the player must first unlock a certain gun, such as in order to research the Beretta 38/43 you must research and buy the Beretta 38/42.

4. Soldier uniforms

4.0 Customization in general needs more work, there are many suggestions on the topic so I will be brief.

4.1 British soldiers need proper winter uniforms, giving them the same brown uniform as in Tunisia with some cheap gloves won’t cut it.
white tunic:

long coat:

4.2 Italian soldiers need to have their own uniforms in all campaigns, it’s really messed up to see Italian looking and speaking men use Italian equipment in German uniforms.
No it won’t hurt historical accuracy more (I’m looking at you Veekay45) because we already have Italian premium squads running around in Berlin, Normandy ect…

Italy needs Bersaglieri, Alpini, Camicie Nere and Telo mimetico uniforms. For both summer and winter.
Italian telo mimetico uniform:

Bersaglieri:

Thank you for your attention, stayed tuned for more suggestions in the upcoming days of British and Italian weapons and vehicles that need to be added to the game.

Cheers

It should be eastern allies and axis and western allies and axis
Sorry but Japan is really the only faction that deserves to have an entire faction named after then if anyone
Even Russia was part of the ussr and had
Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Mongolia, the istans ect ect

I think my position of this topic is very well known already.

Subfactions are awsome as a concept, I believe that the primary quality this game should strive to achieve is player agency, fulfilled by the choice to play as any nation of their choice. You can squad up as the Allies/Axis/Japan/Soviets, but it should be your choice to customize every single squad and soldier to be Australian or Hungarian or any other flavour of nation for that matter. I just want the tools to create the fictional WW2 company of my own choosing, and I believe it would be great for player expression to create their own companies with their own unique identities.

I have tabled both of these in the past in seperate suggestions, it seems option 1.2 is more popular but that is only going by the reception of each suggestion, which is not hard evidence of course.

There’s a great oppertunity and a great excuse to add more foreign weaponry to Japan if we include more Thai stuff in the game.

Finnish units would be nice, they have many weapons in the game already :dromedary_camel:

GEACPS the trouble is did even one country join Japan willingly and without force, did all ‘allied’ forces surfaces 9 percent of Japans armed forces
So at least 600k which would be 10 percent of the 6.1 million

I’m all for introducing this. Definitely want to get some old squads for Germany and America

Which eastern allies?

That’s why it’s called USSR in-game?

Mongolia was never part of USSR.

Especially Finland would be surprised to find out they were part of the USSR or their allies in WW2 lol

It would also be nice to have subfaction specific engineer buildables

A am talking about soldiers that served in the ussr
Eastern allies is us uk Commonwealth
Western allies user, Finland and other satellite states
If the US has to have a generic name like allies the ussr has to as well it’s the ugly sweater rule

New machine guns used by Italy and Britain during the war.

two SMGs for Britain

What? Finland only helped ussr by kicking germans out of lapland. It was part of the peace agreement. Finland was never satellite state for ussr

Medium tanks for Italy and Britian

Unless they make flamethrowers more functional and not go through walls like it does on the Panzer II (f), the churchill crocodile should absolutely not be added. Besides there’s so many better (actually widely used) alternatives they could add too, so the US TT is more than just shermans and sherman derivatives BR3-5.
