Hello bajtársak and fellow forumdwellers,
In 1940 the Crusader tank was still in development but it was already out-dated compared to German Panzer III and IV tanks, so General Staff commissioned the development of a tank that could fight the Germans on equal terms.
However due to multiple delays, by it’s deployement, the Cromwell was already out-dated in July of 1944.
In fact during the Invasion od Normandy, the main tank of British armoured divisions was sherman tank and the domestic Cromwell was limited to a secondary role, usually used in reconnaissance regiments.
The cromwell’s main strenght is it’s powerful 600 hp Royce-Rolls Meteor engine giving it a an impressive 60 km/h max speed.
The mk.V is armed with a 75mm Ordnance QF cannon, the same cannon used by American shermans adopted to British tanks, inadequate against Panther and Tiger tanks.
It’s armour is lackluster for 1944 with a maximum of 60mm frontal armour, barely any better than Panzer IV or III tanks.
Ideally it should be pushed down to BR2 since BR1 German and Japanese tanks with 50mm/47mm cannons could easily deal with Cromwell however Japan at the moment doesnt have a tech tree tank with 47mm cannon so as long as that is not fixed, Cromwell can only be BR3 for balance reasons.
