This is a topic that has been discussed multiple times. On the historical rate of fire of the German MG42 Evidence has been provided to validate the veracity of obtaining a historical cadence. There’s also the issue of whether there are light, medium, and heavy bolts, but in the end This has been shown to be due to post-war experimentation (MG-3) and not the MG42 The rate of fire of the MG 42 was adjusted by rotating a clutch mounted at the muzzle of the gun, which increased or decreased the amount of escaping gas.
Will the developers release it?
They should do so now that we’ve had an increase in the fire rate of the following weapons
•The AT-44’s rate of fire has been increased to 690.
•The Increase to 1100-1200 of the Japanese Twin-Barreled Anti-Aircraft MG
Given these examples, it is also fair that the MG42 receives this treatment
Last year, two publications were made on this subject in detail, using German manuals that confirm their claim of 25 shots per second, which is 1500 per minute. One post was on this English forum where its author is @GetOut0fMyWay and others on the Russian forum where its author is @_DELAVR
These two publications discuss in detail the historical and correct cadence of the MG42 1500 and 1800 (MG42V/45)
That said, I hope the Developers make this necessary and fair change, having the evidence in hand, so that the change from a historical Cadence can proceed.
I think that’s very fair, the MG42 could use some more rate of fire or power of any kind to differentiate it from the MG34 (75), right now its virtually the same gun with 25 rounds less, which hardly warrants BRIV.
I will refrain from voting because personally, I like the MG42’s as they are. The only MG42 I use is the Early MG42 Premium squad which has a rate of fire of 1,060 and is fast and controllable.
oh sorry for being harsh. But yeah, with the mg42 slow reload and having the typical bad moving accuracy of other machine guns it would definitely suffer. The mg42-100 would be buffed from this however.
TBF the mg42 is already not the meta machine gun for br 4 anyways. So thinking about it more I think I will abstain from voting instead of voting no
Well I heard people here do prefer BR4 MG42 over the MG34 with big drum, tho I guess this is really a call for preference - MG34 Patronentrommel reloads quite fast, so I prefer that one.
All that being said, especially BR5 MG42 plays really nice as long as you dont have to reload, the increased RPM and shooting with longer bursts simply increases your chances to hit the target.
Personally I would suspect that MG42 is already in the perfect sweetspot of not being overkill - still I want to see its RPM getting increased non the less even if it would be a nerf.
1200 RPM was the standard infantry configuration for most MG42, and as such the rapid brrrrt that makes a MG42 so iconic needs to be corrected for HA purposes.
