In the past one year, BR2 has seen many changes to its submachine guns, with multiple buffs, nerfs and BR changes that ultimately raised the bar and the MP40 was thus left behind.

A minor fire rate buff would help increase its viability at close ranges while a dispersion buff would increase its usefulness at mid range. Making the MP40 worthy to be used over the Beretta 38/42, but not make it straight up better.
Fire rate buff
Fire rate increased from 500 rounds per minute to 550 by default.
Effected weapons
MP40
MP40/1
MP40 (silenced)
MP40 (white)
notes:
The MP40/1 is an old legacy premium squad armed with MP40 that has dual magazine on BR3, it really needs a buff, if it is not moved to BR2.
MP40 (white) is identical to MP40 thus its stats were not even displayed.
NOT effected
MP38
MP41
notes:
The MP41 from the founderpack has its own unique fire rate of 520 rpm (actually 590 after the 1.15x upgrade) and thus should retain it.
The MP38 does not get a fire rate buff for two reasons, first is variety, should anyone wish to use a SMG with 500 rpm, the second reason is the more prominent one, MP38 quality control was stronger and almost all sources agree on the 500 rpm fire rate.
Dispersion buff
Dispersion/deviation is decreased to 0.77 by default.
Effected guns:
MP40
MP40 (silenced)
MP40 (white)
MP40/1
MP41
With this change all MP40 variants would have the same 0.65 dispersion (max upgraded) as the MP38 currently does.
Source for the fire rate buff:
MP 38 AND MP 40 SUBMACHINE GUNS; ALEJANDRO DE QUESADA
MP40 currently does 7.0 damage max upgraded, it would need 7.9 damage to have a functional difference, I think that would be too much for a 9x19 parabellum gun.
I’m fine with it existing as it currently does, but with a dispersion buff. It should have Japanese SMG levels of control for being a slow firing, but heavy hitting SMG at BR 2.
Instead of eeking weapons closer and closer to something of Lanchester/PPS-43/Type 100 Early equivalence, why not just add a variant of the Bergmann MP.35 to the tech tree at BR 2, with 6.7/6.8 damage?
I understand the concern about powercreep, though. Although, as a counter to that, the MP 40 is a really iconic weapon, and currently it’s not a very attractive choice in the BR II German line-up, due to there being noticeably better options to pick from… I don’t think a mere 60 points increase in RoF (for the upgraded stats) will make it objectively the best option.
At most, I can see it compete with the Beretta M38/42 for the “generalist gun” spot… Which I think is fine, that both Italy and Germany get a generalist BR II SMG option.
I guess the MP.35/I has almost identical stats now. They could bump it down to BR II and change it’s reload back to 2.7, to justify the extra 50 base RoF from the Lanchester?
I’d honestly change the reload back for both guns. 750 upgraded RoF at 6.8 damage is arguably as good as the existing PPS-43 without some sort of drawback, and I’d like to see the PPS-43 RoF dropped to 650 base/750 upgraded too.
This is fair… Didn’t agree with removing all of it’s extra damage, it really isn’t much of a BR III gun anymore…
Though, then we arrive at the same position that there’ll be another objectively better BR II 9mm SMG in the MP-40s BR bracket… I think the MP 40 deserves better, personally.
If it gets optimized in it’s current role as a slower firing but harder hitting SMG, I think it could stay in BR 2. It’s kind of like how a lot of players are hopping over to the Uragan over the PPSh-41 Box now because of how consistently it can two-tap.
I know body armour is the reason why the two-tap of the MP.40 is inconsistent on the MP.40, but if that wasn’t a part of the conversation, and it had ZK-383 levels of recoil and dispersion, I think it would fit really well within BR 2 balance.
We could also have the MP.38 downtiered to BR 1, with it being the “conventional” SMG of choice at that BR for Germany?
To answer everything in bulk.
There will always be a gun that is worse than another gun on the same BR, but generally all guns on the same BR should be viable, otherwise its just wasted content.
Anyway due to recent buffs, nerfs and BR changes I realised that 5 BRs werent enough to properly balance Enlisted and there are some serious gaps in power, except for aircraft.
The most obvious is with tanks, BR3 tanks like T-40 1940 should never see a Panther but both vehicles are placed at their logical BR which reflects their power level. Its not Panther that needs to be a BR higher and not T-34 40 that needs to be a BR lower, a BR is missing.
Vehicles KV-1 (zis-5) and SU-85 should be fighting Panther in an uptier.
The same goes for BR2 SMGs, the gap between the worst BR2 and the best BR3 SMG is too big.
The best BR2 SMGs and the worst BR3 SMGs would need their own BR.
A BR is also missing between BR2 and BR3 LMGs (just try compare MG34 and Breda 30)
In terms of rifles… SF rifles are obviously too OP.
I dare say that even AT weapons have a BR missing. BR2 AT weapons should be semi-auto AT rifles and bad AT launchers like PIAT while rocket launchers should start from a BR higher.
So to come back to MP35, it should really be a BR lower, but not on the same BR as MP40, but still on the same BR as PPS-43, M1A1 Thompson and Type100 (early)
Ideally MP.40 is more of a BR 1 weapon, but there’s so much equipment/filler in both BR 1 and 2 for Germany/Italy SMGs that it’s hard to pick what goes where.
It would be nice to see more iconic WW2 guns buffed so they are used more.
Hopefully some of the main WW2 rifles like the Kar98 or Mosin can get a “lightened bolt” version with an increase of ROF so you don’t just predominantly see mannlichers or winchester/fedorov rifles
