JAPAN UNLEASHED - Updated 2025 small arms weapon suggestion list 🇯🇵

This list is focussed on small arms, so no Jap tanks or planes. As we all know the Jap TT is rather empty, this is an updated list of of suggestions for Japanese small arms that could be added to the TT, or as events rewards or premium content. I have used list created by other users (see credits bellow) combined with some of my own research.

Despite having been educated as a historian studying militairy hardware, I am by no means an expert on Japanese weapons. Nor is my research extensive in any sence. This is not meant as a end all be all factual list, some suggestions might be slightly off. Please tell me if I forgot any weapons or got something wrong so I can update the list.

Sidenote, I am not saying add literally all of these, but rather to stop adding random sawn of American weapons or German AT weapons, and instead add actual Japanese stuf (even though some of these are prototypes or very limited in quantity).

Captured

Obviously there are many more potential captured weapons for Japan, however I only list weapons that would be interesting and distinct (no M2 sawn off nonsense)

Geweer M. 95 (Dutch Manlicher) captured from Dutch KNIL forces in the Dutch East Indies (modern day Indonesia) with Arisaka bayonet and converted to 7.7x58. - captured from Dutch East Indian KNIL Forces

There are also many British weapons captured by the Japanese in Malaya, such as the SMLE. Since these weapons are already in the game I left them out.

SMG

Bestigui MM-34 - 20 rounds - captured from Chinese

MP 18/I “Tsing Tao” Submachinegun - 7.63x25mm Mauser - 25, 32, 40 and 50 round mag (lots of choice here) - captured from Chinese

Two rifles below, 8mm caliber.

This looks very much like the Nippon Special Steel Company rifle from the 1932 patent. There should have been a magazine cover on the rear of the receiver, but it appears to have been lost.

Here is the transferred text of the patent and the patent itself (I spent about a week transferring every Japanese character from the patent scan into the text so that everyone could try to translate it themselves).

Here is my thread with the offer of this rifle.

Just as I know of no evidence that this is a Hino rifle, it was just a guess, since few people know about the existence of other self-loading rifles in Japan.

I have a small thread with an explanation about Japanese sniper rifles.

And a topic on Ru Forum.

I previously thought this was a machine gun based on the Type 3, but after comparing the design and considering some context, I came to the conclusion that it’s essentially a Hotchkiss Mle 1897 light machine gun, or more precisely, a Japanese Type 38. Also, the photo shows a Chinese copy of a Japanese light machine gun; this is what a Japanese machine gun looks like.
b9dbbea1beb62a1f5ae34d6184aea09625628749

The photos show a very common Nambu Model 2 Ost submachine gun, chambered for 8mm. I wrote a short investigation into the “Nambu assault rifle” here

As far as I know, a 200 mm penetration is an estimated characteristic that is not supported by any documentation.

I recommend reading the description of your picture. It’s not an 8mm caliber .

Most likely a fake.

This is a regular ZB 26 chambered for Mauser with an extended magazine, made in China as far as I know.

Here is a picture of a ZB 26, presumably 6.5mm caliber.
ZB -26 30 round mag

The photo does not show a Chinese machine gun.

I’m sorry to tell you that it is fictional, because in Japanese, ‘架空’ means fictional, which means it is a work of fiction and cannot be taken as factual.

Is there any website with information about this gun?

noooooooo
Is this the picture or for the hole idea of a Type 4 scoped?
(I changed the picture just to sure, but obviously these is no real pictures of a Type 4 with scope).

I got it from the Russian Forum, Общая тема по вооружению Японии [DELAVR] :jp: - Обсуждение игры / Япония - Enlisted
I am afraid that I don’t have the exact post. It was one of DELAVR’s with more pictures and text.

The image is a fictional work by the Japanese, and the concept is also fictional, because I tried to look for historical information about the Type 4 scope, but found none.

The 1945 Naval Ground Weapons Handbook states that the Type 4 is suitable for sniper fire. The characters found there are typically used when referring to sniper weapons.
