I think I can speak for others including myself that the Battle Pass BR 4 Rifle fatigue is getting real. However, especially since the Selbstlader’s magazine is even larger than the 20 round weapons we’ve seen in the past, the Selbstlader could be adjusted to become Enlisted’s first ever BR 5 semi-auto rifle. Here are some changes I would propose, which could be adjusted as needed:
Damage: 15.3 → 26.0
Rate of Fire: 350 → 420
The Kretz is already an example of a battle pass rifle with high damage. And of course, Bolt-Action rifles have similar damage stats for the same 7.92mm cartridge chambering.
I don’t know how I would feel about what is essentially a 420rpm 25 round bolt action in BR V. It would be competitive sure, but it would blow every other weapon out of the ocean by a mile.
And then because this semi auto sports bolt action like damage, people will start asking for damage increases to other semi autos. So, probably a no sorry.
It should ideally be equal in strength to the select-fires. Kind of like how the Winchester M1895 and Fedorov M1912 are similar in strength but have different damages and rates of fire at BR 2.
And it’s a Battle Pass weapon. Fortunately, it will have a small overall effect on a battle because there’s a limit of 4 per person. It can be adjusted as needed over time.
And we haven’t seen other BR 2 semi-autos get buffed at BR 2 because the Kretz was added. No other BR 5 semi-autos can be adjusted, because no other BR 5 semi auto exists.
I mean, just compare this with the G43 DFE, almost same gun but one is semi-auto and the other is full auto, even the Cei-Rigotti at a lower BR would be a better pick for BR5. I would rather play the 15 rounds AVS/AVT than even consider a semi auto only rifle at BR5.
G43 DFE and Selbstlader M1916 are pretty different. DFE is full-auto, Selbstlader M1916 is semi-auto. DFE uses Tokarev’s gas-piston system, Selbstlader M1916 is flapper-locked. So-on, and so-forth.
26 Damage would allow for certain damage thresholds to be avoided, since the weapon would be at a disadvantage of being the slowest-firing, non-automatic rifle at BR 5. If it’s too strong, it can be adjusted! I think the average player would perform better with it than a semi-auto, but to a lot of people it would be generally equal in strength.
Also, the vz.24 deals 27.3 damage with a 7.92x57mm cartridge, the same as the Selbstlader M1916. I don’t see why a semi-automatic in the same BR as select-fire rifles couldn’t be given a similar damage profile in this context.
Thinking about your point, this could be an interesting idea honestly, but I think that this would either be really good or really bad with no in between.
The Kretz is very good at BR2 for instance (I also use it at BR3)
I think it would be really good, especially for people that can’t control select-fires at full auto. It would give them a chance when fighting against players that can, and might incentivize future BR 5 semi-autos in the future (such as that cool G43 variant @Tunisian_Megumin posted!).
Valuing hype over long-term planning and consideration is why the game has many of the problems it has today. It’s why weapons like the Scotti Naval and MKb 42 (15) don’t change: the weapons are bestowed identities that people refuse to change in their minds. For those particular cases, the change should be for accuracy reasons (objective), this one is more for changing things up/variety (subjective), but the base issue is the same.
And there’s plenty of other 20-25 round Axis semi-autos that could be placed at either BR 4 or 5 as a battle pass weapon. This is an opportunity for them to try something different, and always add something like this later for BR 4.
