Thoughts on the premium squads

The extra health perk does give a HUGE advantage in a gunfight. 35% extra vitality means your health is bumped up from 10 to 13.5. Meaning that while most soldiers die from one shot to a bolt action rifle which does 12 or 13 damage (15 if you use one of the heavy soviet bolt actions), their are a few magical super soldiers who can survive a direct shot to the chest from all but the highest tier of bolt action rifle, and then be able to turn around and shoot back, killing his opponent with the same weapon in one shot. Extra stamina, extra ammo, and extra anything else doesn’t give the pure advantage that being able to survive a bolt action rifle shot gives you, since it makes the bolt action rifles time to kill extend by an insane amount.

I see now problems killing people with 1 shot having 15.6 dmg

All my upgraded guns have this damage:

except for starting weapon, which you gain with every new soldier!

First of all the people in the clip didnt have that perk, you can tell which ones are the premium squad with their yellow uniforms, most non premium soldiers dont get the vitality perk as access to it is random

Edit: the second half of the clip had the premium enemies, you were able to one shot them because you had an Upgraded rifle

Second of all, new players shouldnt have to grind for hours just to upgrade their guns so they can counter an unbalanced perk

Third In my opinion the upgrade system for guns is terrible as it gives veterans objectively better versions of weapons than new players

hello?

Ooof, sorry I was paying attention to the guys in the beginning of the clip

either way, should new players have to deal with 2 shotting these guys until they get upgraded rifles

who cares? if you dont want to grind - go play battlefield, or no, wait, you have to grind in battlefield for weapons too! life is cruel

You said rifles has issues killing something - i show its not true. Thats it. If you cant, if its too hard, if its requires time or mouse or internet - it doesnt changes the fact that rifle can kill in one shot most of targets on the real battlefield where people just dont run with 100% hp permanently

upgrading stock rifles can be done in just a week, you dont really need anything except to play and use your academy

these guns are very good actually

If you want new players to leave the game because they are at an objective disadvantage that is fine, they will leave and this game will be dead on arrival.

What I want is for the default equipment to be useful and for players to grind for more varied equipment and not objectively more powerful equipment

Saying “This perk isnt OP because I made my gun OP” isnt a good argument from a game balance perspective

they are already more than useful, its just you thinking that default weapon should be equal. Its not, it wont be, never, default is not equal, dont ask.

It shouldnt be “equal”. It should be a sidegrade, like in most good multiplayer games. For example, in planetside 2, the most versitile weapons are largely considered to be the default weapons. In battlefield 4, the default AK-12 was a competent versitile gun on par with its counterparts, while the other guns all filled a different niche.

This is because if the default guns are balanced with the other guns, the gameplay is fun enough that you will want to play to unlock the sidegrades.

If the default guns can be negated by some perk rather than by the pure skill of another player it ruins the skill based gameplay and will discourage newer players from staying to play more.

This is why that free to play Ghost Recon:Phantoms utterly failed on launch, the default weapons had objectively worse stats in every way than the later weapons, which led new players to leave and the game to die off

They don’t tho, all they have to do is play Russia and use their 15 damage rifle, because balans comrad :)))))))

I’m sorry but I completely disagree with you. The default guns should be on par with even the most vet weapons. The best example I have is a F2P game called Planetside 2. It is one of the games I’ve seen where the new player starts with in general good equipment. Vets should get sidegrades, not upgrades. That’s also why I want all standard bolts do 15 damage and then we get sidegrades. For instance the default gun for the Germans should be the kar not the 38/40, the 38/40 should be a sidegrade were it does less damage but bolts faster or somthing like that.

I disagree. In games like battlefield every unlock feels like "almost there, almost there, almost there, its there - meh, it sux’, you end playing same guns all time and i never had that feeling of having really good stuff except for those single guns i liked.

In games where you have to grind from low tier to upper tier its another story, as you start with something minor, then evolve it actually experiencing improvements and you just keep grinding thinking about how OP will it be later, and at the end you get what you expected - an op weapon, OP compared to the stock one, because its early vs end game comparison.

lol we thought of the same game

Its a very good example of F2P progression done right

For all it’s faults it is a pretty good example of a F2P model.

Or TF2 - best guns are stock, except for medic i guess

Yeah TF2 is pretty much the pinnacle of the F2P model.

Perks in itself are in dire need for an attention, as some affect gameplay far too much.
But, back to the topic.
Also, I´m sorry, this will be very long opinion, as I also try to include possible solution.

Alright, I myself decided to purchase this pack (for Germany) and managed to create an opinion, that I would like to share with both camps (people defending them and people opposing them).

Problem: Premium squads offer huge in game advantage, that is just too much to bear. While this advantage is less evident when fighting more veteran players, even then it is still there.
That is pretty much at P2W level. 30 euro for best soldiers, best equipment, best perks (where some perks very existence is a mistake, to say at least)… and few more assaulter slots to add salt to the injury.
Now imagine being new player, first time joining invasion mode as Germany and getting shredded by these people right after sticking out your nose.
Let me ask defenders of premium squads one question: Is that okay? Please, use your most objective judgement. Let me just say, that gaming industry went on dark path at the very moment, when players accepted P2W and tried to justify or even excuse it.

If I compare both squads (that one is more subjective, as I cant play soviet premium squad), soviets still seem to be more cancerous, but Germans are more than enough of effective counter.

Question is, how we have gotten here, and what can be done about it.
This kind of monetization is clone of War Thunder. In fact, it is combination of worst aspects that War Thunder monetization can even offer. This is literally what testers who are also familiar with WT were worried about and I´m afraid that Enlisted won´t be able to escape this trend in the end.

What can be done about it?
Premium squads cannot be removed altogether, especially after so many people paid for it (we have to deal with this fact, no matter how much we don´t like it).
Firstly, they can and should be reworked to fit original idea about monetizing Enlisted (main selling point is them being unique, and faster progress). Secondly, their main weaponry should be balanced out to fit more with regular SMGs or just use squad with buffed and upgraded semi-auto (Yes, it stinks with P2W but let me defend this one: we still need squad to provide some kind of advantage that is not anywhere as drastic, lets call it additional motivation, not need, to spend money and fund the game). And thirdly these squads should still have same amount of premium soldiers who will however come with 0 stars and additional soldiers shouldn´t be all of same type.

Implications: Squads will still be stronger than regular ones, but not enough to motivate new players to uninstall the game, due to their lack of perks and nerfed damage/changed guns squad is using (I would probably advocate more for using semi-auto instead SMG for premium squad). Also additional slots full of assaulters will no longer pose problems. Yet squads will retain all their advantages of faster progress (unchanged from current state of premium squads), uniqueness and still being kind of stronger than regular squads (Semi auto is only usable but not OP when upgraded, otherwise its just pistol with extra recoil). This advantage will however become irrelevant against more veteran players over time, so everybody is happy.

Lastly, I know that monetization is extremely controversial, but Developers should really give these topics more active attention. We are your testers, we want your game to shine as much as you do, please allow us to help you make it shine (btw big thanks to Developers for getting rid of slot machine like interface of choosing perks, current visuals are far better, keep it up).

Damn, this was really longer than even I expected, if anybody managed to read to the end, I applaud and thank you.
