For years we have wondered what the implementation of the “veteran” upgrades for soldiers might look like. In this post, I propose a promotion system for soldier subclasses as an alternative to veteran upgrades once a soldier reaches max stars.
Veteran System
Proposed Subclasses for Assaulters
Here are some examples I came up with for Assaulter subclasses.
Benefits of Subclass System
Further differentiate squads of the same type
- Offer more customization for individual squads, assault squads filled with different assaulter subclasses may play differently. Allowing players who bring several assault squads to further customize the roles of their assault squads.
Niche playstyles are more viable
- Certain subclasses could allows for certain playstyles to become more viable, example - Raider subclass gets benefits to shotguns and melee.
Unique Subclasses for Factions
-
Allows for unique subclasses for each faction, potentially creating unique playstyles based on historical evidence for certain nations. These subclasses unique could potentially also get unique cosmetics to further differentiate them.
- Examples include commandos for UK, army rangers for USA, arditi for Italy, and gebirgsjäger for Germany.
Disclaimer - Not entirely balanced but I tried
This system would allow max star soldiers to promote into different subclasses based on their class. Here is an example of my ideas for what Engineer subclasses could look like (also not perfectly balanced).
Engineer Subclass Concept
- Assault Engineer
- Construct stationary guns faster, deconstruct enemy fortifications faster.
- Fortification Expert
- More durable sandbags/wire, dig trenches faster.
- Logistician
- Quicker rallies/ammo boxes. More uses for ammo boxes.
- Mechanic
- More uses for tools for fixing allied armor, fixed tanks are temporarily buffed in some way
