I just have a somewhat short rant about some of my biggest problems facing vehicles on the Normandy campaign.
First off are the planes:
When it comes to bombs, Normandy heavily favors the Americans. Half their planes have at least one 500lbs bomb and while the best German bomber has 6 250kg bombs, it’s one of the only 2 planes on Germany that has bombs while the rest of the German planes have pretty **** rockets.
Next for me are tanks and I’ll start with specifically, the Jumbo 75mm:
It is given to the Americans at level 20 and its German counterpart is the Pz.IV H? Almost anything on the American team (not literally anything, but a lot of them) can penetrate and destroy both the Pz.III’s and the Pz.IV’s yet I cannot for the life of me penetrate a Jumbo 75mm unless I get beside it, or I am elevated so the armor is more flat/ easier to penetrate (the hull mg is usually too far away and the transmission is too low to do any real damage).
The reason I have a problem with this is because again, it’s introduced at level 20. And literally nothing can penetrate it from the front unless it’s elevated, or it can snipe that very small area of the hull gunners machine gun (I don’t count the transmission area because it’s so low, it rarely ever kills crew or even damages the tank critically).
The Jumbo being level 20 to get and practically impenetrable from the front makes it literally unkillable without air support on most maps since it usually just camps out of bounds, sniping your team.
Next up is the difference in tank ammo, mg overheating:
American tanks get a decent variety in shell types while all Germany gets are APCBC and HE which is absolutely ridiculous. Part of the reason my problem with the jumbo is so big is because my tanks don’t have HEAT or APHE rounds to shoot.
On top of that, the German mg’s are ridiculously quick to overheat. It takes the mg34’s 3 seconds to overheat while an American 30.cal takes 11 seconds to overheat and a 50.cal 4 seconds to overheat.
I know this is due to the mg34 having a significantly faster fire rate, but it’s absolutely stupid. Both the American and German tanks should have an increased fire time before the guns overheat.
The player built mg nest and heavy mg can fire for 7 seconds and the random mg’s can fire for 5.50 seconds.
While it may not seem like that big an increase, it is, especially if you fire in bursts. The problem with the current mg overheat time for Germany is even in bursts it overheats after a few seconds and it makes it easy to get swarmed.
I’m sure there’s much more I’m forgetting, I’m kind of just jotting down thoughts that come to me as I go and I’m getting tired. I just wanted to list my main problems that I repeatedly see.
also you will see loads of complaints regarding p47 when allies have playerbase advantage (or even teams) and loads of ju188/tiger complaints when axis have playerbase advantage.
Sure, you forgot to write that stupid AA gun can be a threat to P-47 and other allied planes, but allied AT gun is no threat for a Panthers and Tigers. Allied tanks are crap, and Axis was always favoured.
I’m just gonna quote myself from the last one just days ago.
Ok, now that that’s out of the way, let’s break the rest down.
You do realize that lb and kg are different units right? 500lb and 250kg are similar sized bombs. The Americans get the A20 which has x4 500lb bombs, and the Ju188 which gets x6 250kg bombs, but yet you call this unbalanced.
This is just wrong. Also, Germany gets its first attack plane at lvl 3 while the Americans don’t get one until lvl 20.
They have the same caliber cannon, so what’s the problem? The Jumbo can withstand hits but it’s not more powerful than the PzIV.
The only American tank with HEAT is the M8 Scott, which is an open top howitzer and can be killed quite easily. The Americans also don’t get APCBC until the M4A1 at like lvl 30.
That’s because they have a much higher firerate than the American machine guns like the M1919 and M2. That’s not unbalanced, it’s a trade off.
You need to play both sides of the campaign before saying stuff like this.
“don’t get one until lvl 20.”… What ?
Surely the Americans don’t have an attack plane up to lvl 20 ( lvl 20 is jumbo anyway ) ? Because no matter how I look at it… there is on lvl 4, and have rockets. What are you talking about ?
“What’s the problem?”
Maybe that one cannot penetrate the other frontal armor? It’s hard to ignore this little fact. According to your logic, the panther is not more powerful than the M4A2 sherman. Same 75mm caliber… Man, it would be nice if Panther and M4A2 were on the same level in the new system… players would enjoy balanced tank battles.
The game official invested a large number of paratroopers and activity teams into the Battle of Normandy. They are investing more catalysts in the battle, and now the battle will only become more intense and difficult to balance
I agree on the planes.
I mostly agree on the tanks.
The reason for this is not just “fire rate” but “time-to-kill”. The Axis tank MG is capable of killing enemies in a single burst due to the high fire rate. Whereas the Ally tank MG is capable of knocking, but not necessarily killing enemies outright due to the slower fire rate. I think this part is fine as is.
As far as taking out jumbos, I suggest using AT soldiers with the Panzerfaust. I take out Jumbos all the time with it. Keep in mind, it actually works best at range, rather than up close due to the arc of the projectile. It does take some getting used to on the distance, but once you do they will feel it.
Its especially good if you can get some extra height above your target. I like using them from the upper side bunkers on D-Day. I’m able to take out Jumbos as they are coming out of their spawns on the beach with it.
again some crying baby who needs balance. The balance is unhistorical.
There shouldn’t be a firepower balance like in some World of Tanks or CoD.
The balance should be the realistic unreliability of the equipment, even at the beginning of OBT the engines were breaking down. In cbt the gun jammed and that was the balance.
And as many people have already mentioned, because this is a topic often discussed, there used to be a rule of rock paper scissors in the game. The Germans had strong tanks, the Americans had planes, the Germans had maneuverable fighters. And the circle was closing.
And besides, there shouldn’t be tiger tanks in the Normandy Campaign. Why? Because we are playing day D and the battles that took place at the turn of June 6-8, 1944, and the first tigers were encountered by the Allies on June 13 in Villers-Bocage.
Lol, the campaign is Normandy campaign, not D-day. Stuff that were used in the campaign can appear in every battle. If using your logic, you must prove a stuff is used in every battle and every place on the game map in order to add it into a campaign. This is basically impractical.
It’s practical. Because you wouldn’t be crying now that the tiger is too strong.
Another form of balance is the division of vehicles into light, medium and heavy, and the impossibility of putting two heavy tanks in a battle at once.
Operation overlord and D-day are two different things. Operation Overlord is a set of campaigns where the first campaign was a landing called D-Day.
During the fighting for the beaches in Normandy there were no tiger tanks there because they were standing near Paris and waiting for supplies.
Historical sources indicate that the Germans used mostly captured French tanks in the battles for the Allied bridgeheads.
If you want to use this logic in a campaign you must use it on all the stuff in the campaign. So you must prove all stuff in a campaign was used in every battle and places in game map.
and operation overlord as a whole is represented in normandy campaign and not set of individual campaigns. while d-day is a map it is impractical to balance game based on map for HA.
you can’t balance the game for weak players all the time because knives will soon pierce the armor of tanks.
The game was more balanced in CBT in terms of weapons than it is now. Because nowadays, because of weak players, we have things like weapon normalization, nerfing vehicles and soldiers with ninja agility.
See how mines have been weakened recently, artillery deals random damage. The bomb can fall next to infantry and not kill anyone, and all because of the squeal of people who think that balance is more important than realism.
And even friendly fire from grenades and bombs was taken away.
cause of smaller level difference. they didnt need to balance pz2 and t34, or stuart and tiger, or BA vs fedorovs/stg. most campaigns are most balanced when they just come out. more they add stuff in them, more unbalanced they get.
