Do you want each faction to receive a 120% Sprint Factor Sword, sold for silver?

Currently, Japan is the only faction that gets access to swords that increase sprint factor for silver: the Shin gunto Type 95.
With this suggestion, the Shin gunto will have it’s sprint factor reduced to 120%. However, in addition, each faction will also receive a corresponding sword with 120% sprint factor.
Here are some examples, but the principle idea is more important than which specific blades get used in this role for each faction/nation:
USSR: Russian Cavalry Sword M1942
This is essentially the same as the Russian Cavalry Sword M1927 “Shashka”, except it is produced during the Patriotic War. These examples are far less ornate than the pre-war versions of the sword.
USA: USMC Machete
This weapon already exists as an event weapon. Either it can be changed directly to a silver purchase weapon (it was only ever a reward from Operation Leadstorm in April Fools 2025), or make the tech tree version visually different, with “USMC” embossed into the side of the blade, and a wooden grip.
UK: Pattern 1907 Sword Bayonet
This is essentially the same as the M1907/13 Sword Bayonet that is attached to the SMLE Mk III Rifle in the Allies Tech tree, but equippable as a sword.
This was the original 25.6 inch bayonet of the Gewehr 98 rifle. It would eventually be replaced by the Seitengewehr 98/02 and 98/05, which were 17 and 15 inches long respectively.
ITALY: Model 1834 Carabinieri Sword
This sword was carried by the Italian military police from 1834 through 1981.
Only reason I voted no is because the Shin Gunto should retain its 150% multiplier. And I believe it’s like that because it’s a lighter sword than the other swords of the time period. In saying that, it’s damage could possibly be reduced in comparison just due to the lighter weight of a swing.
That’s actually a WW2 Canadian machete. See that it’s bulging at the tip…? The USMC one is straight all the way.
Anyway, I prefer reworking melee weapons so that they all have a purpose for existing in your line-up, rather than giving everyone swords. Because if the sword isn’t immediately the best option in almost all scenario, then the Japs having easier access to swords isn’t an issue.
Axes should deal extra damage to map objects, shovels should have a dedicated melee mode with charging, all knives should have a sprint-speed increase, bayoneted weapons (and other polearms, in case Japan ever gets bamboo spears) should have longer reach…
I’ve been working on making a suggestion about this for ages now… draft after draft after draft… I’m never quite satisfied with anything I’ve written, so I’ve yet to actually post it…
Not really. There’s a difference between balance and copypasta. At the same time, faction-specific advantages like Japanese swords or Soviet BA are bad for the game’s health.
PPSh-41 Box and Type 2A are balanced, but not the same, for example. That’s where variety can live in a balanced ecosystem.
Also for the rest of the ones who’ve voted already… doesn’t look too good guys! Why is one faction allowed to have an advantage but not the other? Hm… seems like double standard to me!
should make a proper post iirc thats how bf1 did it axes broke things ited be kinda neat if an axe could break tank mg barrels in homage to a certain chef
There’s a difference between a passive advantage that upsets the entire balancing of weapons using a currency that has no practical application and swords with a sprint speed bonus.
Japan is already the most disadvantaged nation for many reasons. Low hit power weapons, small magazine capacities, lack of real players.
Besides, a sword isn’t really that useful anyway. It’s a flip the coin if you do go on a killing spree or if an AI shoots straight up. Unlike body armour which is guaranteed to work.
Yeah, but that doesn’t mean it should be any worse or better for that fact alone. I’m all for realism, so a sword is a far more effective and lighter weapon, and that’s the way it should stay.
In saying that, a blunt weapon like a club should be the only weapon able to kill a vitality soldier just due to the mass and damage of a swing.
Maybe Japan’s issues should be solved by adding new weapons that fill these gaps, or rebalancing the ones that are an issue?
Though at the same time, most of their weapons are in a decent spot at the moment, Type 4 Rifle being the first exception that comes to mind. Which other weapons are lacking?
it really is… i don’t know why you are trying to downplay it… you must not place rallies or flank then and only sit and prop up if you dont in which case for your style youd be right… but for any aggressive player they are an essential tool
You dont even understand the point… it has nothing to do with their damage lmao but the sprint factor which is very useful.
