MP-40/38 rebalancing

Only +15% rate of fire for SMGs.
Beretta 38/42 has 550 base RoF ffs.

Why was I slacking off? Well, basically, I discovered that the MP-40 I was examining was a prototype with a rate of fire of 660 rounds per minute, rather than the production MP40 model.

You can’t and couldn’t do this the literal bare minimum

If you wanted links cool just ask but don’t be a jerk bag about it we can talk like adults here

Good catch, I didn’t know what the upgrade multiplier was off the top of my head.

Thank you for correcting my math I will change it in a bit

Everyone knows that MP40 had around 500-550 RPM, however PPS43 had 600- 650 rpm.
This is common knowledge.

Actually the sources I show the covers too stated they ether have 450-550

That’s true but that would basically render the gun useless and would be a significant nerf, as it’d get the bad velocity of a .45 but not the damage. Besides, there’s plenty of suppressed weapons with supersonic ammo (like the STG44 S) that iirc have the exact same effect as far as bots noticing you as a suppressed weapon with subsonic ammo (welrod). Maybe if the detection range was increased for suppressed weapons with supersonic ammo and was kept as is for subsonic weapons it would have a niche, but as is with how they’re set up it wouldn’t really make sense.

That’s why I put that there the MP-40/I would need some extra stuff probably though I do not own the squad so the rate of fire thing gonna effect it with probably then other recoil stats and such

About the MP-38 for me I actively try to avoid moving guns up or down a br when I do these posts I would rather most things go back in their place but hey the MP-38 as I did not would be pretty solid as a side alternative as a preference gun

The suppressed version like maybe I can give it a higher rate of fire due to how suppressors work but otherwise I realized I couldn’t touch velocity in a chance of rendering the gun useless so I try to step around it with other buffs also the gun felt more accurate than it is so I gave it a higher accuracy stat than it’s non-suppressed counterpart

best improvement would possibly be to buff the mp40 a bit with precision and fire rate to make it less weak compared to other strong br2 smgs and to nerf the mp38 slightly to downtier it into br1.

this way one of the most iconic smgs of the war could be played right from the start, making it more attractive for new players. the thompson already got he same treatment with the downtiering to br2.

gaijin needs to release more of the ppsh prototypes as br4 event prizes so players can enjoy that iconic gun also across more BRs.

99% of guns come with the highest possible fire rate.
MP40 should as well, especially since it really needs a buff.

That’s why change the aspects of it to be far better than the one we have now but also be distinctive from its brothers my goal was to rebalance them to be more competitive like the MP-40 with the higher rate of fire but also not make it utter garbage or op

agree

Steyr experimental prototype (high-rate-of-fire MP-40). Towards the end of the war, the Austrian company Steyr-Daimler-Puch developed a simplified experimental version of the MP-40. It replaced Vollmer’s standard telescopic recoil spring assembly with an exposed spring similar to that of the MG-42 machine gun and utilized a firing pin rigidly integrated into the bolt. Due to the reduced mass of the moving parts and the modified spring design, the prototype’s rate of fire increased from the standard 450–500 rounds per minute to approximately 600–660 rounds per minute. The objective was to conserve scarce materials and simplify production.
I will maintain and assert that this is a prototype, not a production model.

Actually, I was mistaken; the Steyr was not capable of a rate of fire of 660 rounds per minute.
The prototype (with a rate of fire of 660 rounds/min) existed only as a few experimental units at the end of the war. To simplify production, the buffer tube was removed, causing the bolt to move faster. The figure “660” found on production parts is strictly a Steyr factory marking and has nothing to do with the rate of fire.
Such a prototype might bear the markings “bnz 44” or “bnz 45” (Steyr factory, 1944 or 1945 production), as well as military acceptance stamps (Waffenamt) in the form of an eagle with the number WaA623.

The experimental steyr has a rate of fire far higher than 630 (messed up on the upgrade numbers) it used a MG-42 recoil spring which brought it up too 1100 rpm

So this is a utter false equivalency

Then the Norwegian sources which I linked because you’re to lazy to do work at all and typed three words onto a search engine

used the same MP-40’s they had from ww2 plus they didn’t produce their own but later into the years even to the 1970’s they still used them they had like tens of thousands of them of hundreds of which why even whine about sourcing when again you yourself are to lazy to look into my sources

Also the source doesn’t talk about the misc info like rof but serial numbers so like no point again

Even then the game doesn’t care about its rate of fire when upgraded the base is the historical rate of fire like on the PPS-42 which has 600rpm iograded 6900 rom or sten mk2 which highest I saw was about 525-550 rpm but in game upgraded is 630 rpm an Australian manual stated the Owen mk1 also has 700 rpm even now still has that but upgraded it’s 810 so like upgraded stats don’t matter when the base stats is the historical part of the gun

If you don’t like that cool make a post about it but don’t act shocked when the mechanic comes up for the game

I’m actually opposed to RoF increase for both MP-40 and MP-38. Just reduce their horizontal recoil a bit and buff their dispersion to be much tighter so that it can truly excels fighting at range over other SMG. Even FNAB-43 is somewhat usable now after the recent dispersion buff from the major update.

To be competitive in BR2 the MP-38 and MP-40, as well as the FNAB need to be buffed, or, other faction’s should have some smg’s nerfed. As is with no changes made, the MP-38 and FNAB should be dropped to BR1. Would it be historically accurate to buff the MP-40? IDK probably not, just like it wouldn’t be historically accurate to buff the M1A1 Grease gun’s ROF as it is pretty accurate. However, I often question how accurate the game is anyway, so would a small buff be out of order?

To be honest, IMOP no smg in BR2 should shoot faster then 700 rpm, but we’re long past that mark. :joy: However, since historically accuracy went out the window with the bath water, then buff the MP-40, and either buff the MP-38 and FNAB or drop them to BR1.

Well, this too. Most of japanese BR 2 SMG, PPS-43, M1A1 Thompson and M1928 Thompson(Imo this one is the most broken one in the right hands) are being the worst aggressors and nerf them or remove them from BR 2 would make everything much more balanced on BR 2 as the SMG meta goes.
