Don’t be sorry
You are just advertising it
at the end of the day rifleman are pretty much cannon fodder, unless you are defending an area is pretty unlikely that you’ll ever ran out of ammo and for that you can build ammo crates with the engineer.
if the pistols got turned into essentially semi-auto SMGs with small magazines and more recoil, this would be fixed.

On the current state of the game while marching, often the player moves faster than the bots, also AI bombers take out their PTRD if fired upon, this causes the bots the be left behind and in short being picked off by basically anything. maybe changing this behavior so IA bombers only take out the AT rifle if ordered to attack an armored target and behave like a regular rifleman by default.

Other point I’d like to make regarding pistols is that the nagant revolver is too slow to cock. there where two variants of the nagant the original and a double action one, maybe if the nagant revolver in game was converted into the double action variant (or keeping this one in game and adding the double action variant as an unlockable). but yeah in conclusion the role of pistols are more of a reserve or emergency asset used for close quarters combat, and having a slow firing single action revolver in a game where SMG’s are the META is rather useless, and this weapon really underperforms compared with his german counterpart starter pistol the C96.

and last what makes this game unique it’s its great roster of “obscure” weaponry. fpr example, for what I recall the NKVD was deep into the use of foreing weaponry even before the war (including some great guns like the 1921 thompson or “tommy gun”). the german side was also heavy on the use of “beutewaffen” from conquered nations (like poland, france, belgium), we already see this in game with the czech weapons but more could be added such as the wz. 1928 (the polish bar). these “rare” weapons could be added into the game as late campaing rewards or in events such as twitch drops.
I’d just like to say that I enjoy the Tokarev and C96 in their current iteration. TK 1926 is alright and so is the Luger. Nagant is dogshit but when you meme someone it’s time for celebration.
Are they not already? I thought pistols already did the same amount of damage as whatever SMG shares their cartridge?
Not all.
They also have absolutely terrible damage falloff compared to SMGs (more than they should if you compare barrel length and velocity)
Well they should have worse damage falloff, and worse muzzle velocity too (generally). The question becomes one of figuring out what kind of falloff would be realistic enough for the game.
In my opinion, all weapons’ damage falloffs are very screwy…
they shouldnt lose almost all damage in the first 100m
Like accuracy wise they wouldnt be effective beyond 100m but a bullet is still a bullet
No,
Most pistols deal 4.5 damage (6.6/6.8 is SMG)
Revolver bullet is in similar calibre as M1 carbine so it should deal at least 7 dmg (not 4.5)
This assumption is very wrong. 7.62x38mmR Nagant is a less powerful cartridge than even 9x19mm Parabellum. It’s only about 25-30% more powerful than .32 ACP, and about the same amount less powerful than 9x19mm.
It is a pretty common misconception that revolvers shoot more powerful ammo than pistols, but it is untrue. Most service revolvers (especially from this time period) really didn’t fire anything special in terms of power; the most powerful probably being the US M1917 revolver chambered in .45 ACP.
If you want to compare it to .30 Carbine, first you only need to look at the ballistics to notice how large of a disparity there is between the two. At the muzzle, .30 Carbine fired from an M1 is over four times more powerful than 7.62x38mmR. Even at 300 yards, .30 Carbine is more powerful than 7.62x38mmR is at the muzzle.
So, a bit long winded, but no, the Nagant should not deal anywhere close to 7 damage.
U sure?
Test had shown that 7.62*25 Tokarev is more powerful than the 9mm Parabellum
7.62x25 < 7.62x38
yes, I’m sure.
It’s true that 7.62x25mm is more powerful (energy wise) than 9x19mm, but 7.62x38mm Nagant is less powerful than either of those two.
Just take a look at this image. Nagant ammo is second to the left and Tokarev is third. The design of the Nagant’s cartridge places the bullet fully recessed into the brass, leaving less room for powder (different kinds of power used are also factors in bullet energy).
The very long case dimension on 38mm for the Nagant’s cartridge is pretty much just because the cartridge covers the bullet, and doesn’t really have to do with how powerful it is.
Now I see
My mistake sorry
lol Nagant is awful even irl
Not awful, just not particularly powerful.
I mean awful compared to stuff like p08 and TT
But every pistol is designed to kill
I hope Colt New Service is going to be more fun than nagant in Normandy
Well from a gameplay perspective it is kinda useless to implement a gun that is just objectively weaker than everything else.
I mean the nagant revolver could be rather usefull as a starter pistol if it was converted into the double action variant, at least you could spray a target at short distances, on his current form… is less usefull than the mosin 1907 really, its only purpose in game is to be some sort of meme.
Was there a double action variant?
yes, during ww1, there where 2 nagant variants one for regular infantry which was a single action revolver (the one we have in game) and a double action nagant for officers. sometime in the 1920’s the infantry variant nagant stopped production and those already manufactured models where converted into double action nagants so by the time of ww2 most nagants where double action guns. yet, im no gun connoisseur so if someone wants to expand on this or make a correction is welcome.
I suppose the devs want’s to create this “ragtag” felling to the ussr, by giving them reserve, really old and even civilian weapon (like the winchester 1895, the toz, the madsen, the ppk, etc) with the objective to show the shortage of equipment the soviets had which is fine, I like this style. and most of this “reserve equimpent” is pretty competitive, except for the nagant revolver which I think needs a rework
