Adding more iconic Shermans

  1. What image comes to your mind when you think “WW2 Sherman tank”?
For me it’s the M4A3 variant – straight glassis plate, no side skirts, also the most numerous and the preferred US Army vehicle. Yet it is not available in Enlisted (only with the 105).
I think it can be foldered under the M4A2 unlock.

  1. What image comes to your mind when you think “pinnacle WW2 Sherman tank”?
For me it’s the M4A3E8 “Easy Eight” variant – same chassis but with HVSS suspension and a new turret with big cannon.
I think it can be foldered under the M4A3E2 (76) unlock.

  1. Sherman Firefly – the conic British tank is hidden behind a premium paywall.
However, the premium version is labeled IC Firefly (M4/hybrid hull), so we could potentially have VC Firefly (M4A4 hull) in the tech tree.
I think it can be foldered under the M4A2 (76) unlock.

  1. Lend-Lease Sherman M4A2 (75 mm) for USSR.
About 4000 M4A2 Sherman tanks were delivered to the USSR during WW2, surpassing any other lend-lease tank numbers, and was generally well-regarded and praised by Soviet tankers.
I think it can be either an event vehicle or tech tree.

The 105 model is different. It has hvss suspension (same as easy eight) and not vvss like in your picture. Also warthunder has no m4a3 vvss so it is unlikely to appear. I hope we get m4a3e8 76w at least

True, that’s also the point I was trying to make - while we technically have the M4A3 (105), we still don’t have the classic M4A3.

That’s really weird, WT doesn’t have the most widely used WW2 American tank?

They also have no churchill 4 despite it being the most common one. Best case scenario we get standard m4 but sadly it has those ugly sideskirts

It does. More or less…

The Swedish Sherman III/IV has a M4A3 vvss hull in War thunder.

But yeah there is no true M4A3 vvss in WT.

It won’t add anything to the game, it won’t fix the M4A2’s main short comings anyway. M4A3 still won’t be able to fight the Panther fairly in uptier, but BR2 tanks would be even more out matched against it.

Panther problem can be easily solved by adding another BR but in that case BR2 tanks will still be hopelessly outmatched.
Or all issues can be solved by removing uptiers/downtiers but in that case, M4A3 will just make M4A2, M4A1 and Sherman II redundant.

It would add USA’s most widely used tank to the game.

How so?
Is M4A3 significantly more powerful than M4A2 with side skirts?

I’m simply talking about visuals and iconic WW2 value, not uptiers/Panthers/balance.

+0- matchmaking definitely needs to be added. M4a3 would be similar to panzer 4h. It would be better than any other variant but the older models would still get used kinda like panzer 4j and f2 still appear once in a while.

What do you mean, M4A2(75) Sherman was far more common with more than 8000 built
M4A3(75) had about 3000 built.

Panzer IV H, F2, G and J are a bad leftover of the old campaign system, G and H would have been more than enough.

You are correct in saying that M4A2 was produced in larger numbers.

However, as far as I am aware, M4A2 was diesel-powered and was mostly sent to Britain and USSR under lend-lease, while the US army mostly used M4A3, as I referred to above:

M4a2 was produced in larger quantities but it was mainly for export. It served canadians, british as sherman 3 and soviets. US marines also used it while army had their m4a3s.

Thats fair, though to be realistic, its not in War Thunder and for what it would add for Enlisted itself, its simply not worth the effort.
As for numbers, they are meaningless since most of the lend-leased vehicles just ended up with nations that are in-game US subfactions.
Most produced Japanese tank is premium.
Most produced Axis AFV is also premium.

I apologize for being pessimistic but WT has been begging for this tank for years and I highly doubt that they would make it for Enlisted.

I fully support M4A3E8 (which is in WT), has a chance and reason to be added.

Well, I’m not saying it should be the priority or require recources to be taken off other stuff, just a nice-to-have.

As it has been interestingly pointed out above:

This could be an interesting workaround

It needs hull mg

M4A3 (105) and M4A3 76W are also in War Thunder, it could have been added years ago.

If I had to guess its not worth to be added in the tech tree because M4A3 75 would be better than M4A2 75 but not better enough to justify M4A3 being on higher BR, but at the same time would be unfair on the same BR too.

And devs won’t add it as premium or event because it was common.

IMO, this tank is a must for Allies in tech tree.
Firefly VC would give Allies a tank with enough pen to fight Tiger II and would have better HE than US 76 cannon.
Right now US needs to rely on M36 for both.

Though Comet mk.I would also suffice.

It would be cool if they add some event Sherman’s with field armour.

More vehicles the better!

M4a3 has better armor and mobility and there’s not a m4a3 75 in wt. so won’t be added. There’s also a m4a2 76 already available for Russians so unlikely to be added. Rest sound good tho.
