I am a Chinese player, English skills is limited.
I have collecting info on this topic for 2 weeks, and from more than 5 players. One of them are a RO2 veteran that hosting two RO2/RS1 servers. Other one are veteran BF3/4/1/V and WT player. Rest are from the local Enlisted chatting group.
Red Orchestra 2 is one of the most popular and positive reviewed percentage FPS game on steam. Though 10 years after its release, 6 years after EOL, it still get hundreds active players everyday. You should get one if you interested in WW2 Eastern front FPS.
BTW, Verdun and Tannenberg, though a WW1 FPS, is also a great game balanced well between arcade and realism.
The review is originally Chinese and still wait for supplement in the future.
ATM only comparing to Enlisted Moscow campaign.
Stop telling me Enlisted is only in CBT. As long as it’s opened to public, we can review it and that’s what the first impression is.
The game is still not finished now but devs are thinking how to disgusting players
Pros:
This is a 2021 FPS game, with lots of Nvidia new graphic technology. This game was once seen on Nvidia official PR material. Graphic is great, even as good as a AAA BF1 game.


Also the optimization is very good, not hardware costing while provided a decent graphic.

While RO2 is really outdated. It’s using UE3, and is a 32 bit program. Also unstable somewhile. Graphic glitch in LoD.
Vehicle is Great. Because of WT, WT’s vehicle physics is one of the greatest among other games. This game though using WT’s very low tier tanks, still perform well.
RO2 only have 4 tanks, T34 76, T70, PZ3(?) and PZ4(?). T34 and PZ4 is ok, but later T70 and PZ3 is very buggy.
Free accessing most building in game aera, you can explore every corner of maps.
In RO2 era, game can’t hold so many content. Also, you can only entered designed aera.
(Only that door of that building is accessible)

Cons:
Enlisted is very boring. I am surprised even I lend my account to them for trial, they said this game is so boring that stopped playing only first several hours. They should be the target customer of this game
As for me and other owned Enlisted players, some of us stopped playing of lack of content and depth.
Now, Enlisted only 4 maps, 2 modes. Also copy paste buildings everywhere, especially in invasion, big maps with open but boring field. Maps are wide and lack details. Few posters, few soviet related stuffs. If without soldiers, this might be anywhere else, not moscow rural area.
RO2 has plenty of maps, also they have lots of community maps, so never feeling boring at first dozen hours. Also, RO2 has 4 modes, TE, FF, SD, CD. Though only FF and TE is frequently played, the later two bring extra joy when playing with friends.

And RO2’s most maps are recreate from the real place in Stalingrad. Most official maps comes with its different unique buildings. Never feels boring exploring new maps. Maps are elaborate designed, especially official maps. The passage, cap zone, tickets, everything, even arty and spawn timer is specified in different maps.


BTW, RO2’s city and street environment makes some more interesting maps. Enlisted except the new Monastery map, just all plain maps.

Lacks of distinctive features.
Enlisted had some interesting stuff like CR inventory mechanism, could be a highlight of this kind of historical FPS. The main mode “squad mode” is… just fully display of the clumsy AI. If you are not controlling them, they are “OK”, but as long as you have to command them, they just disappoint you.
Even RO2’s bots know to spread out, to use the cover, to attack via multiple route.


Enlisted’s are so dumb, you jump in a building, they just detour via the doors… Also not knowing to hide and cover. The aiming turning is weird, and can enter terminator mode via weird interaction.
RO2 has so many unique features, like 3D tank interior, authentic real squad and TL’s make up. Squad are “squad”, squad member tend to cooperate and communicate. Yeah, I always play as solo in RO2, but not this kind of solo in Enlisted.

Weaponry:
Enlisted weapons is “plain”, SMG are SMG, LMG is buggy, pistols are useless. The weapons in same category is all the same, except parameters like rounds, recoil, damage, etc.
RO2 has a real, expressing weapon level trees, all weapons have 3 tiers. Different tiers enable workable features. Like Rifles L1 base, L2 bayonet, L3 newer skin. Or MG34/42, L1~3 gets 50/75/250 round magazine. AVT40, L1 basic, L2 bayonet, L3 scope. So you can snip in L3 AVT as a assaulter. Nagant and C96 are more fun, like silencer and full auto in higher tier.


Configure weapons’ part should be a common feature as a battle royale game. Enlisted could get one, but deleted its inventory system.
Also, weapons are wrong or not representing the historical situation. Like PZ3B. Like no DP27 but Madsen. No MG34 but MG13? No PPSH but PPD34/8? If you have so many rarely seen Madsen, so where’s SVT and G41???

RO2’s weapon upgrade for real functions not Enlisted “man made parameters”.

Also, the LMG is not used as it supposed to be, like in RO2, or even more arcade “Verdun”. In both this games, LMG need to be deployed to ADS. They can be used for hipfire, but is inefficient and lack mobility (Both these game considered its weight). Current Enlisted’s LMG is lack of characteristic feature. Just a high recoil high damage and less ammo SMG.
Look at Verdun also RO2 does:


Verdun’s chauchet like RO2’s LMGs, are capable of hipfire, but cant ADS without deployed.
And RO2 give LMGs a very large amount of ammo per mag, also with high damage, high firerate, perfect for staying somewhere and create firing line.
Also for PTRD or AT soldiers, the AT rifle cant be ADS without deployed, so RO2 give them pistols, its supposed job:

While in Enlisted, one of the most unreal part is holding LMG and AT rifle and ADS. Also, in both games, LMG hipfire is with a huge recoil, not work well in CQB. so is different from SMG’s job.
And perhaps this is why Enlisted cant represent the actual use of DP27 and MG34. They do not have the “bipod” function. (Also MG’s suppression.) So greatly reduce this LMG’s features.

Clumsy movements:
RO2 has a “standard” of how high the obstacles to be for stand shooting, prone shooting/hiding, etc. And it created 2 different hitbox, one for bullet collision, one for human collision. So navigating through indoor furnished rooms, you wont be tripped or stucked with minor stuffs.



RO2 as physx item, you can kick it around.
Even with so many furniture, you still get a smooth movement when moving near them. Because the items has multiple hitbox, and a slight slope on hitbox for every items. Some you can just walk through them.
In Enlisted, all stuff are fixed, some can be destroyed (RO2 also has destruction function). But like chairs, you can not push them around, just awkward. Also because all hit box is matched perfectly, causing bugs like this (I bet they didnt fix it):

Also the swinging of doors and windows… Especially those opens toward you, always cause a jam.

RNG:
I know this is P2W. But currently it is not. And Im still gonna say how this disgusting me.
Enlisted’s logistics is not fun at all. You may get mad while throwing 20+ orders without getting what you want.
The RANDOM part should be used for giving players more new feelings with the existing content. Not to disgusting them.
Like random weathers, random maps, etc. This is not Enlisted’s pro part. Tannenberg already have 6~7 weathers/time per map! Different weathers and time can give you 50% more new feelings using existing content.




For current Enlisted’s logistics, I think it should be change to a shop purchasing like experience.

Tech trees and progression levels:
Enlisted’s progression is too slow, the deliberate long and slow progression is intended to keep players playing the game. But making players feel sick, or even mad (also at RNG). The deliberate long 2h/4h/8h? long academy upgrading time, taking 333*3 of lv1 soldiers for 1 5 star soldier. All of this may not keep players here, but making them to leave the game because these disgusting and deliberate progression and upgrade system. Also for 3 tech trees per squad, they may not so apparent, but lack of fun.
Also Enlisted’s progression level can create a huge gap between new players and veterans. Level up gives you so great advantages, much more worse than the already newbee’s hell RO2. In RO2, you get most weapons and functions at start, leveling up gives you enemies weapons, some slight perks and so on. You still get the same model of the veterans’ gun except they are without any upgradable parts and perks. But in Enlisted, you even unable to use the same model or even type of gun like veterans’ at starting stage. You dont have access to MG or even SMGs at start! This is still not very apparent now, but after OBT, all players’ progression may differs greatly. The game’s balance of newbee and veterans may become a nightmare.
Also, campaigns, factions do not share progression. This may cause a huge player division in the future!
In RO2, both factions in one campaign shared roles and campaign progression. So switch from german to soviet is not that hard.
Also in RO2, the high level’s unlocks are mostly non essential functions, like some fun things like sliencier, able to switch auto mode, butt of gun and etc. They are fun to unlock but not important to unlock.


And perks isnt that ridiculous OP compared to Enlisted’s 100% more xxx

Enlisted dosent even provide a basic balance of (real) player count between two sides.
RO2 DO have a bug that can let ppl joined other side even if its full (or have >2 players than other side)

In RO2, all this stuff can be custom tweaked by server admin, so they can provide all kinds of server settings that fit players.
In Enlisted, you have to get used to some weird and annoying server settings, like bots’ difficulty, etc. Or you dont even have any option but forced to play what they send you. Like you dont have any options of joining what maps, or even what servers (intentional bug).

i don’t think… games should be compared.

like, they have something similar, but you are overnegleting over a few factors:

Such as;

Target;
the game appealing for some individuals,
enlisted was made to be Realistic, not simulative like ro2.
and for the same reason, enlisted might not appeal for ro2 players as both games are different.

Marketing;
game over the years has changed and quite alot as you can see from your self. meaning that standards of now, are different and were from than. not to mention, ro2 had to be payed in order to be played. with different version of editions, and DLCs included. ( later one, pacific )

while enlisted it’s a free to play, willing to cover from fronts.

Time;
as i said before, there are many differences between than, and now.

and lasty, you cannot give a full impression on a game that it’s not even out of the beta. yes, technically betas are where games can be considered nearly as finished, but there are also exeptions, and enlisted is one.

In fact, I am not going to compare, but going to criticize Enlisted, for so many worse than RO2.
Only about its content.
BTW, all enlisted players I known all agreed Enlisted is actually worse than RO2 on gameplay, despite how many hours they spent or just knowing RO2.
I believe if any one played RO2, regardless of its outdated and toxic players, will agree enlisted is still behind RO2.

And I really dont see they will change much since now is very late CBT, and they are just hurrying on to make Normandy to a released state.

again, not for be repetitive, but game industry of than, it’s not the same as now.

ro2 never planned to make a free to play in the first place.
and they got our money for further content right on the bath.

while enlisted, has to earn money as a free to play following models, and marketing.

it’s like, cupcakes. ingredients, and different ways of cooking them makes a different result. and. it takes time to make a perfect cupcake.

as i said, it’s earlier to judge.

BTW, RO2 is the best WW2 FPS of balancing realistic and casual (arcade).
Friendly fire is not the only thing make FPS casual. The starting curve is also important.
RO2 has made tweak in all kinds of mode to fit from hardcore to casual and arcade. In most arcade tier, there’s crosshair and no FF. It’s server’s settings. Not the game.
And funny fact, RO2 is some kind of P2W, for its premium pack (STG and AVT, pretty OP). Also it can be “F2P” “way” since there’s a “rifle only mode” for those who do not bought the game. And a “almost free" 3 day trial pack.
RO2 did not get large criticism about it like Enlisted here.

There’s I think 8 maps by now for Moscow, a bunch simply are not in rotation for whatever reason. I think if those were opened up, it would become more interesting.

I am not sure how the rest of the thread reaaaally ties into unlisted, might be me misunderstanding your english, so I won’t comment on that.

First off, what the actual hell do you mean by “disgusting players”? This is the countless’th time you’ve said it.

Well, many of your points can be solved just by developing the game. It has it’s problems but this is charm of pre-release version.
If you want to help the game (I assume you do) than create treads on forum where you propose how to solve certain problems.
Of course some critisism is necesary but now you only critisize while not suggesting (final :wink: ) solution.

You also have absolutely no idea what you are talking about when it comes to developing a game, most of what you are talking about is actively being worked on, but particularly AI is difficult. Plus the maps etc, this game is in CBT so you really cannot compare it to a finished game 10 years of age, especially when you count user made maps. The likely reason why these maps are not the real location is copyright, if it is the real location you cannot use copyright on the maps and proving them to be yours would be difficult.

Well the issue here is that the devs don’t actually seem to care or listen, unless it’s a game-breaking bug. I have yet to see the devs really interact with us otherwise (the prem squad thing was done by a moderator, for the record. No actual dev interaction there.)

Well, it’s all we can do. Unless you take prayes into account.

Well it seems like boycotting seems like a better solution at this point…

If they want to make game that will bring income they will listen, if not than game will die, end of story. We may try to shout but all we realy can do is vote with use of our money.
Not the first game that looked promising but ended up on digital dumpsite.

  1. They have far better things to do actually working on the game
  2. They do reply on occasion when needed, but we discuss and provide the solutions ourselves so it isn’t often needed, plus they often post the patch notes and specific feedback topics so quite obviously do engage and listen to feedback
  3. The vast majority of updates across the past year or so have been exclusively player requested features
  4. Whilst it would be nice if they talked more on here, they do have more important things to do and do obviously read the forums, but the amount of time just reading takes is unbelievable, let alone to then actively engage in threads.
  5. Thereby actually make well constructed suggestions on the forums so the devs can implement it when they have time.

Just saying a “we will consider it” would take 10 more seconds if they read these forums. but it has been shown again and again they do not read this stuff. They only read the russian forums.

I have asked like 10 times for a dev to just say anything to prove me wrong by now but it has yet to happen.

Well we are still waiting for for example the Pz3B removal, which has been requested during the same time the BA11 removal thread was all hot, but we still got that trash can. Cant solve stuff that requires a dev to fix. Not to mention perks, premium soldiers, etc.

Maybe 50% is actually player requested, but that would be a stretch even. Don’t recall anyone asking for more bolt action rifles, barbed wire, respawn points, etc.

And so we have done for the past half year, but no replies, and only a handful of the post actually changed something. But even then we aren’t sure whether they weren’t already planning those changes.

In your very message there you proved they listened to the feedback lol are you really that clueless?

You truly are clueless… more engineer constructions was a request on this thread for quite a while and they implemented it (since it is easy to do without affecting the game much)

In regards to this, there haven’t been any real suggestions to swap it for, at least none that wouldn’t take a fair amount of work that could wait till OBT to remove the issue entirely.

I haven’t really seen you be particularly constructive, especially recently, plus again, you are completely clueless, they have responded on occasion and again, regularly create feedback threads for updates and i really, really do not have time to go back through this entire forum, especially when it has now been cluttered by useless threads such as this, to find every single change that was made based on player feedback and that would not even be counting the numerous under the hood changes like the gradual change to AI etc.

Ammo pack and AT-gun - yes.

Nobody asked for a magical radio that pops soldiers into existence behind enemy lines.

The flamethrowers have been and maybe still are being being improved, that was one of the big things with the update before CBT.

They got worse with the “improvement” they made, actually. They still did not receive a range increase that practically everyone agreed upon at the time. But because it got ignored, we stopped talking about it.

Also, I never said none were implemented. Simply that most were not.

Acadamy, 2h/4h/8h?, extreme long upgrading time. Why not just make it the shorter like lv1~lv2’s 5min?
Cancellation of inventory. And you can’t pick up other’s stuff.
Send you to the wrong server, so obvious that they are doing this on intention.
Then stamina, now, stamina is much more shorter than before.
Now, extreme high recoil on picked up weapons.

They are not giving us more fun features, but more restriction or even force you to do sth.
