Vehicle balance in normandy is very very skewed

I know this is going to get a lot of flak from US mains saying “oh but tiger”, but I am going to do this anyways.First of all,The sherman jumbo is unlocked the same level as the panzer 4 H,A copy paste of the 4 J with almost useless side skirts, while the allies get the jumbo, impenetrable from the front even by a TIGER unless you aim at the MG port, and god forbid that he puts a bush over it.the only good way to kill them is flank them with a Panzerfaust, not unlocked till 30,and get a lucky hit on his side, but they are almost at the frontline or greyzone camping, not allowing you to safely dispose of them, and even CAS is a mixed bag,but you are likely to get shot down anyways. And that brings us to the planes, where the germans get the focke wulf,A fighter that is decent at best with a small armament, but the US gets the P-47,the cancer of normandy. This has 10 HVARS,and they are more powerful than the german rockets, and in addition to that, they get a 500 pound bomb,if for some reason you weren’t already dead enough. And it is a better fighter than the focke wulf, it has 8 M2 brownings for gunning down other planes. And the premium tanks are not any better either,The allies get yet another jumbo, this time with more rounds that have even more penetration,The Firefly that is basically the premium allied tiger, and the chafee, which is a 75mm flank n’ spank nightmare, and the Churchill i’ll admit is pretty bad.and the germans,do they get a tiger?a panther? no,they get a reskinned panzer 4J,no changes AT ALL,A panzer 3 with a slightly better gun,the StuG 3,which is Okay at the anti tank role, but gets easily destroyed because of it having no turret or machine gun.o any of you guys agree o have similar views,or just to yell at me

I agree with your statement but what do you propose be done about it(taking in to account the fact there is going to be a tech tree for the country’s and br levels relative “soon”)

well they are likely to put these vehicles that are “counterparts” at the same tier,so Maybe increasing their BR/rank or decreasing the others rank/BR

And I also forgot to mention the rocket tank bundle, the Calliope gets 60 M8 rockets on top of a normal sherman and what do the germans get?A truck with 5mm armour that has 20 rockets (that are not that much better than the M8s) and a Mg on the top of the “hull” that dies from anything larger that 30-06

Normandy works like this, one side specializes in something but the other side gets an advantage in that aide earlier on and that stuff is a bit harder to use in practice, but in theory can be used just as well as the later game stuff. In the Americans case, this is with tanks, namely the Jumbo. Yes the armour is incredible, but it has a mediocre gun that cannot frontally pen anything more than a Panzer IV, and needs at least a couple shots to kill anything because solid shot. As a result, you need to choose between the ability to tank hits with the Jumbos, or the ability to frontally kill the heavier tanks with the Firefly or 76mm Shermans unlike with the German where the whole package is given to you in the Panther and Tiger. Something similar applies to the Aircraft where the Bf 110 and Ju 188 both can preform similar amounts of wiping things off the map as the P-47 can, however neither can do it as easily as the P-47 can and thus they both come earlier. The Bf 110 in Normandy has the largest rockets in the game, however they also are very far out on the wings and are very heavy so it can be hard to aim. The cannons are also good, however again you need to aim well. The Ju 188 is the complete opposite, it can wipe maps easily, however it is not particularly good at fighting planes in an offensive manner. Thus, in the grand scale of things everything balances out in Normandy.

Also that comment about the Chaffee is hilarious. The maps in this game are too small, to flank and even if you pull one off, the grey zone keeps you from exploiting it in any meaningful way.

but here is the thing, the premiums absolutely suck for the germans, where the allies get another jumbo, the firefly, and the calliope

uh no…tiger CAN pen the front plate of the jumbo at these distances, i know this because i’ve done it twice in a live game though interestingly it seems that practices makes it out as not possible

Premiums don’t dictate the level of balance of a campaign unless they are egregiously overpowered, the unlocks do. In the case of Normandy, while the Allies may have better offerings, none of them are unbalanced in the slightest because they are about on par with the campaign levels.

okay, but an impenetrable beast versus a copy paste of another just okay tank, who will win?

I posted this way back on 29/1/22 - before ther were tigers… OK - you've had your wee joke with Normandy armour.... can we fix it please?

M10 vs Panther - ha ha - yes we all laughed at that one - good joke - well done
Now can we have some vaguely reasonable balance there?

M5 vs Puma - that’s fine, although I think a better equivalent for the Puma is the AEC Mk III with a 6 pdr gun - it has wheeled mobility like the Puma, and hte 6 Pdr is much more an equivalent to the 50mm L60 than the 37mm.

M8 vs PzIIIN - M8 looses a bit here due open top and no coax MG… but it’s not major… and below I suggest a replacement for this pair anyway

M4 vs PzIVJ - this is fine too as far as it goes, but there is a better duo that could go here and that is:
Pz-IVJ vs M10 - both of these are basically worse in Enlisted than the H and M4, so should arrive earlier, not later. Any advantage the M10 gets from the 76mm is outweighed by open top, no coax mg, and easily killed by all previous Axis tanks! Both have awful turret traverse speeds.

M4 vs Pz-IVH can then replace the Jumbo vs Pz-IVH - another good little joke - oh how we all laughed at this too… well done, you got us good…!!

Lastly the Panther and Jumbo - probably just make the Jumbo a 76mm and be done with it - neither can be properly balanced, and both should probably be premiums anyway at this stage - yes the Panther was a “normal” German tank of the era, but it was also completely outnumbered by allied armour so if you aren’t going to have any “real world” balance then make people pay for arguably the best tank of the campaign!

Other possibilities include Panther vs Firefly, or even the A30 Challenger - which was also available at Normandy, and has speed and a coax MG, if not well armoured.

Another duo that could probably be in there is Sherman 105mm CS tank and the StuH 42 - the “Stug” with 105mm howitzer - it is probably a better match than the M8 and PzIII IMO

thank you for seeing that the panzer h4 is not balanced compared to the jumbo, but I don’t think they will make the panther premium, since there are 2 of them in normandy

Jumbo isn’t impenetrable, it’s also copy paste and every other tank Normandy Allies has is basically just a premium counterpart to something available in the TT, or for lack of a more tactful term, a piece of shit.

The 76 Shermans would probably be balanced with the Panther, and then save the Jumbo for the Tiger. Also, M4A2 vs Panzer IV H would work, provided the devs gave the M4A2 M61 APCBC instead of the M72 AP shell it gets.

Since you’re not restricted to playing only people of the exact same level as you, comparing unlocks per level is pointless. Comparisons are pointless anyway, since the important thing to consider is each sides lineups in and of themselves. If you must, you have to compare the entire lineups if you want a realistic view of the game.

Your comparison is pointless.

This isn’t actually war thunder - there is no actual “tech tree” in the first place!

Jumbo being the counterpart for Panzer IV H according to DF logic opened a Pandora’s box for Normandy a long time ago with German players going to ask for Panther and Tiger there anyway. If 76mm Jumbo gets added, obviously Germany in response would ask for King Tiger preferably the H version.

Jumbo is one of the tanks I despise the most since War Thunder with the small weak spot at the front being the MG port.

King Tiger is in the game “balanced” by IS-2 - on the western front it would be “balanced” by T26E3

As opposed to Panther G and Tigers having no weak spots on the front at all?

I personally don’t care about the nitty gritty details of “balance” whatsoever. I’ll keep it simple, I’d want the King Tiger in Normandy because it was there. And yes even if I’m the one getting curb stomped by it

As I always say everything has its pros, cons, and roles to play. Just because the enemy has a King Tiger and I’m a Sherman doesn’t mean I’m completely useless during a battle

They could release a Mechanized Infantry Class with the tiny Universal Carrier in Normandy and I’d use it just because I feel like it. Yeah am I gonna be one shorted by almost everything, yeah but that’s just the part and parcel of a war game. Maybe one spawn I get one shorted by a Tiger, maybe another I’m on a good streak with the Bren. I just enjoy the sandbox

Doesn’t really matter. Progression levels aren’t each other’s counterparts. Plus Germans are getting usable AT weapons way sooner than Americans, lol.
You should be using “new” progression tech tree as example, not something that’s going to change anyway.

This topic is basically just crying about something that has been working on for several months already.
I really don’t really understand what’s the point of this topic, it’s completely irrelevant and it has no value.

Do you even know something like merge and complete rework of progression system is around the corner?
