Update 0.1.11.27 Feedback

We got HE shells. But they are the outdated, phased out HE shells that only training units used at the time. The actual shell used by the military was about half as powerful as the 45mm HE (12g filler vs 60g filler vs 125g filler or something like that?) Someone has docs on it.

Which is the entire issue. It needs to be reworked ASAP.

I noticed that both the M4A2 Sherman & Panzer IV Ausf. J didn’t have any functional HE either, for that matter. It’s a disgrace that only one specific faction has a functional HE shell.

I assume its something they will do in the future, since its currently only in closed beta its not a priority.

It is always a priority to tell your players what you are doing, in the case they hate your idea. Then we at least get to try to stop them.

wrong and wrong, I’ve had it work very well with both.

Agreed, there is nothing wrong with effectiveness of HE in Normandy, but HE itself feels a bit strange to use in general. Often I feel like shell should do damage but it does not seem to hit anything, another time its far too effective or just explodes next to the enemy and does almost nothing.

explosives in general are inconsistent. I’ve have instances where an enemy player was closer to my grenade than I was, yet it killed me without downing them.

Me but with detpacks next to or on tanks.
Sometimes they kill it and sometimes they don’t do anything. Whether it’s landed directly against the side of the hull on the tracks or lands on the UFP of a Panzer II. Only sure kills are engine deck and top of turret lately. Though that could just be Gaijin’s funky HE modeling from WT coming out to play.

explosive packs have limited armor penetration. doesnt go through frontal armor

I’m aware, it’s just inconsistent sometimes.
Landing it next to the tank even an inch off sometimes will yield no damage or just getting a single crew member, but if it was that inch closer it’d be a complete kill.

Landing it and letting it sit there won’t yield a kill though I would figure it should, but given that it doesn’t explicitly say what the detcharge “pens” it’s just trial and error till you learn 'em.

the plate only has a transmission underneath.
the frontal armor doesnt get penetrated
so you only get the transmission at best

Yeah but it doesn’t even kill the transmission it’s just a Hit)) with no damage done. Like hell, if it’d knocked out the transmission I wouldn’t have complained because that’s still an immobilization.

Immobilizing tanks in general needs to be easier. No more of the War Thunder damage model of needing 3 or 4 hits to take out the track or the engine.

The only tanks that should stay mobile after taking a shell to the engine are multi-engined tanks like the M4A4 and the T-70

Again, anti-tank landmines should be an option. They should only throw a track and require the track to actually touch them, but they should be available.

THIS

Bless your heart, there’s people in the Hell Let Loose community that like that the little AT mines completely obliterate tanks while being completely undetectable.

That’s mostly my response to complaints I’ve gotten here about people wanting AT to stay skill-based.
Immobilizing tanks without the mines being too easy to set off seems like the compromise.

Would definitely be pretty balanced. You’d need to expose your crew to fix it (or have someone in your team running with a set of tools, but that’s rarer than a Nazi German victory in WW2) giving the other team a good shot (pun not intended) at taking your tank down.

Would introduce more dynamic anti-tank gameplay, too. Imagine setting up an AT mine on a road, with an AT gun off to the side somewhere; hidden by bushes. Really encourages wider fronts.

A better solution would be to let normal grenades throw tracks and/or make hitting stuff throw tracks more easily

The former would make it too easy for anyone to destroy a tank, the latter would probably be too buggy.

Mines are at least dedicated AT. With frag grenades throwing tracks, anyone could destroy a tank with little effort.

Anyone already can. Just throw explosive packs.
You can already use those to throw tracks, or use molotovs to disable the engine with a little luck but if that “isnt good enough”, let normal grenades do something too.

It would be far far easier to do it with frag grenades destroying tracks.

It would mean once you’re in frag grenade range, anyone can easily disable your tank.
