This is a suggestion for a Revamp of the Current Sniper Squad. I didnt proof this one much, so forgive me if its still rough.
NOTE: I know snipers are hated on for being the useless camping class, and while this revamp wont change how “those” players use it, It will bring some extra utility to the other type of player
Why?
When I think of a Sniper, I think of a 1 or 2 man/woman squad, working independently with a heavy emphasis on remaining concealed. The current sniper squads in Enlisted do not achieve this and feel a little… boring. They have minimal utility, and are very cumbersome since you are dragging along AI squaddies that give you away. They basically act as a Defacto Rifle squads and in some cases Assualter Squads.
So to improve the idea of what it means to be a Sniper Squad, the current change will be made to the Squad type itself.
The squad has a minium of “One” soldier present (Currently the minium is 3)
This gives you the option to build your sniper squad as a Solo or duo unit if you choose. It is basically like being able to play “Lone Wolf” in “Squads mode”, while retaining the ability to use the squad as it currently is.
*In addition to the above: Paratroopers get a Check box on the spawn screen to choose between Airdrop and ground spawn. Snipers Could get a Check box to choose between “Squad Spawn” and “Lone Wolf”
As this squad is now intended to be very small and has less second chances available, It will be given further conisderations via its Perk Tree and Class unique Abilities to amplify its useability as stealthy solo class.
New Perks (Some perks will only be active when equipped as a small squad, to avoid making the larger squad too strong)
Concealment (If squad size is less than or equal to 3, No kill cam and Invisible to AI at range when not shooting)
Scout (Spotting Vehicles/equipment lasts longer)
Spotter (Automatically spots Vehicles/equipment in scope/Binoculars for a shorter duration)
Take Down (Last hits with pistols are insta kill, no downing of soldiers)
Eagle eye (Extra Zoom on iron sights when holding breath)
Lone Wolf (If Squad size is less than or equal to 3, Vitality +50%) The current sniper class cannot get the vitality perk, and will still be the case if you run a large squad or attach to other squads, But since the class is now intended to work in a solo capacity, this perk is to give the Sniper access to the Vitality per AND the passive 12.3% perk when running in a small unit (I rounded up)
x1 Radio beacon item: “ONE” use respawn beacon that can “ONLY” be used by the player that placed it. This allows a sniper to sneak around and set up a position to spawn in another squad (perhaps an engineer for a proper rally).
x 2 Decoy item: Sillouhete of a solder that gives hit marker to enemy solider that shoot at it, AI prioritize decoys (does not break from small arms rounds)
Passive: Double pistol magazines
Squad Upgrade node: The ability to equip AT rifles OR carry 3 mines
Great suggestion, I’m down for any suggestion to improve non-meta squads, I mean there’s gonna be players playing them so why not bring theirs effectiveness up. It’s suck to avoid fun classes only because they’re not as effective.
Imo snipers could get a buff that would mark everything while using scopes or binoculars (another buff) but to keep things balanced it could last shorter than normal mark.
Oh right, I missed it, I am mostly in favor to scout or spotter, I think buff for snipers should be marking related. All of sudden having a noob sniper in your team isn’t so much of a burden.
I think that making sniper smaller class or removing kill cam or stuff like that are against the flow of the game, so although it sounds interesting I doubt it would found its place in the game.
Also I think that class build ables are the way to go too. Though as opposed to your suggestion I’ve been thinking more of a simple ladder tbh.
Another buff snipers might get is an order to simply not move, it’s so annoying when your AI just can’t hold position without moving, though it would be just new order in general that snipers would benefit from by the way.
Its mainly to do with survivability. The whole theme here is to trade squad size for concealment and survivability. Currently the moment you snipe a player, he is shown your position, which can end you very quickly. This perk will only be active when you are running a very small squad (1-3) to make up some of your survivability. Gives you more chance to move around undetected, but still engaging
Imagine how much easier it would be for a “solo” sniper to slip around the flanks/cliffs on Normandy beach without bots and kill cams pointing them out. for example.
I’d love to have actual team of sniper + spotter.
It could give you some buffs like auto spotting, bullet drop indicator or even lead marker if we are brave enough.
Current pistols in general feels bit weird. I wouldnt mind if all of them received higher multiplier for headshots for guaranteed kills.

With this I disagree, snipers already have the range advantage. And imo, the lack of vitality for this unit is definitely justified by above mentioned range advantage.
Camos, no killcam & longer spots in other hand are all good ideas.
Could give snipers silenced pistols, regardless they used to be gold order with smg ? If i recall.
Could even make it so that with silencer theres no killcam, downside being more bullet drop and slightly less dmg ( silenced snipper )
Im not against it, just seems unnecessary.
Doesnt really suit to this squad, as earlier mentioned the range advantage and imo this squad just shouldnt be able to tank any extra shots regardless with what they get shot at.
Buffing snippers as squad, should focus on spotting to make them even remotely useful to team.
One way of improving the spotting would be granting the snippers ability to mark enemies to map.
Aka theres AA behind haystack, you cant get the direct spot on it but you know exactly where it is you could mark on map the position, either direct position or approximate position like circle on map similar to artillery.
But as opening map and marking locations for team would take too much effort for majority of players.
Id rather have this in form of regular spotting. You know the location where the AA is for example, but cant get direct spot so its marked as approximate spot aka circle on map.
Dunno how hard it would be implement to the game or even impossible.
But imo improving the snippers spotting ability would be the way to go to improve this unit.
