As it seems that the Jumbo is here to stay, we should look forward to tanks and tank destroyers that could be added that would do well against the Jumbo but still be killable by early level tanks. Our goal should be to maintain game balance and at least try to maintain historical accuracy (even though the Jumbo never saw combat in Normandy so it shouldn’t be there in the first place) while minimizing power creep.
I would think we should see something like:
Medium Tanks: Panther D for axis and Sherman Firefly for allies.
Both tanks would be able to pen each other, and the Panther would be able to pen the jumbo frontally actually creating a counter to it while the Panther can still be penned by all tanks in game via flanking. If shell options become available (please add them Darkflow) then most low level tanks would be able to pen the Panther’s turret frontally in a reliable way as well. The Firefly would be pretty equal to the Panther, with both being able to penetrate each other no matter where they shoot.
Tank Destroyers: Marder III Ausf. M and Jagdpanzer IV for axis and M18 and 17 pounder Achilles for allies.
These would have both advantages of strong guns but being weak armor or open top, allowing them to be countered by both infantry and other tanks, while still letting them penetrate all enemy tanks. The Marder III Ausf. M, M18, and Achilles would require proper positioning due to their open tops. The light armor of these Tank Destroyers would also let them be vulnerable to early level tanks. The Jagdpanzer IV would depend upon which model they decided to add. It would be relatively well armored frontally but with weak side armor. It would also have a low profile which would make hiding it a bit easier than most other vehicles. Personally I feel the normal IV should be added and not the IV/70 due to it being easier to balance and the IV/70 having too strong of armor and too strong of a gun.
Importantly, all of these vehicles saw combat in Normandy.
I agree that would work if they would actually remove the jumbo (something they said they wouldn’t do) and if they weren’t going to add more vehicles (something they definitely are going to do). However, if they continue adding new vehicles and don’t remove the jumbo, I think the best way to do it would be by adding the vehicles listed above.
I just wanted to ask why is everyone forgetting M4 Sherman. Better turret rotation, manuverbility, MG, 75 mm gun will only have problems with front 80mm armor on Pz4 hull, turret is 50mm so it is no problem, everything else is fine…
God knows why they changed this. And I didn’t know they had it this way in CBT
The regular Sherman would then get to experience what the Germans have been contending with since the Jumbo was introduced. But I suspect the forums would be on fire in that case, wouldn’t they.
It’s strange how feedback from German mains is considered whining, but with Allied mains it’s constructive. Some nice double standards we have on this forum, wouldn’t you say.
Both sides are trash, from what I’ve seen. That’s the nature of online games. Not sure where all this tribalism is coming from, but it’s downright silly if you ask me.
Lolno
One is much worse than the other for absolute sure
There is no debate there whatsoever
You’ll get bad teams for the Allies here and there, but it’s clear that that’s just a match to match thing and not an utter constant.
Because German crybabies ruined War Thunder and came here to cry too.
Crying =/= Constructive Feedback
It’s up to people to look at it objectively and say whether something constitutes a genuine concern that needs looked at or pants shitting.
Playing both sides GI and I can tell you that one is much harder to drag to victory than the other
As I’ve suggested in other threads on this same topic, the best way to handle things would be to move the jumbo up to whatever is the ultimate top-tier of the campaign, with the Panther D as it’s contemporary. To replace the Jumbo against the Pz IVH, you’d introduce the M4A1 76mm. Ideally, you’d have several more sets of vehicles added between that point and the Jumbo/Panther, to reduce how many Jumbos/Panthers are in a game. And/or putting a 1-per-team at a time limit on the Jumbo and Panther, like is currently in place for bombers.
Nah the Jumbo and the M2 Carbine need removed
They weren’t there
And you can’t handwave it like the Ba-11 by saying “well it was PART of Barbarossa” and just rename the campaign or some shit
The M3 is all you need. They did reasonably well in italy against the few tigers that were there. Even in the IRL push through France, Shermans killed three panthers for every sherman that was destroyed by one in purely tank-on-tank engagements. And before you go about the 5v1 myth, while the standard size of a US tank platoon was 5 tanks, this is only compared to 4 tanks of a German tank platoon.
Granted, there’s a lot to consider about balance, stabilizers, flanking, situational awareness, etc. Especially that IRL shermans got off the first shot 9 out of 10 times due to a combination of factors. (including the aformentioned stabilizer, but also better recon and communications, more flexible command structure, etc.) But still, a 75mm Sherman vs a Panther or Tiger 1-on-1 isn’t a hopeless situation, even in the setting of the game we’re dealing with, even if it’s not ideal. (and also there’s the fact that all the shermans should get M61 APHE already, but…)
