It has been repeated ad nauseam, but once again I suggest to the developers that from the initial squads, the sniper squad should be replaced by the engineer squad, since this way new players will be encouraged to build rally points and therefore improve the experience for newbies, and if we add to that the idea I gave (although it is not the same, but it is a concept) to rework the tutorial, I think things can improve…
At least the mortarcrew does something, like storming the objective, once they’ve run out of ammo. The snipers just lie around waiting forever until timer runs out and you lose once again.
Engineer as initial squad sound like a wet dream to me…
Motors are great if used at the right time on certain maps. I have a mortar squad I use in BR5 with both Allies and Germans, but only use the Mortars on certain maps where I know I will get good kill results. Biggest problem with newbies using them is they are just using them to use them, and don’t employ any strategy, just set, launch and pray. That’s what I did when I got my first Mortar squad a couple years ago.
The higher BR battles have stronger Mortars. I have played enough that on a lot of maps I have a pretty good idea where when attacking (especially on the first cap point) where they enemy like to fight, so I concentrate so many meters from the center of the cap point where I think they will be, and a lot of times am right on point. I do it as quick as I can so you catch them just getting into place before your team has arrived. Even Normandy when on the beach, if you set the mortar to a few meters behind the initial bunker, you can sometimes get a lot of kills as the enemy is coming in and out the back bunker door.
I love my level 5 German sniper squads. StG 44 main weapon and FG42 II sniper rifle. I have the same with Allies, but use them in level 3 since I have to use the M1 Garand.
Given how many experienced players don’t build rally-points I doubt if replacing snipers with engineers will make any difference to the number of rally-points constructed in-game.
The counter-argument I heard was that removing the sniper would force new players into closer contact where they would get swiftly killed. With a sniper a new player is almost forced to slow down a bit, look around - and maybe start to make sense of what is going on.
A new player isn’t going to be very productive whatever squad or weapons they have. The sniper (by accident or design) gives them a pause in the madness. Otherwise they’ll just burn through 14 squads per game and quit because they are fed-up with getting killed by unseen enemies.
I would give new players a special (time-limited) beginner’s squad with one of every type of trooper with an increased health so they didn’t get killed so easily.
