Please for the love of god nerf the knife. Like what the hell, one single stab and you kill a person? Now imagine some of the wannabe online commandos going into tiny room and instant killing your entire squad, because stabbing is fast af and you get instant kills, sick…
On the other hand, I need like 3 hits with butt of my weapon to kill somebody, what the hell?
melee in the past has been already nerfed.
but this opponent that knifed you once,
that is because your opponent has the perk for 100% increase melee damage.
otherwise he would need 2/3 times to hit you. and put you out of action.
i guess it’s a fair trade considering that he is using that perk, instead of something else.
I don’t think a well placed stab isn’t lethal - it is. The problem is that the enemy is ghost ninja and your squad dies in silence without reacting at all, while providing perfect meat shield to the enemy.
Here are my thoughts/suggestions about not nerfing much but making melee fight more survivable on the receiving end:
-
in a closed corridor no enemy should be able to walk through you while you’re standing - please block them with your torso in case of direct collision. Or if you stand and he runs into you, you should fall over and he should be stopped, losing momentum and maybe having minor concussion. (Actually I don’t feel more camera shake is necessary right now.
) If the room is full of people maybe you can’t even fall as your mates keep you standing and he can’t enter.
-
if you’re downed you are still an obstacle on your knees, he should not be able to run through you, crouching or walking speed may be the most you can do through half-dead enemy or when the floor is filled with bodies.
This part handles the rush.
-
AI should react, 3-4 soldiers against one must be almost surely the end of a lone attacker. (Unless the attacker is very good. So if there’d be a martial arts perk, and a 5-star attacker with it enters a room of 0 level rookies, he’s OK to end winning for me.)
Otherwise they kick, hit, file lawsuits, whatever but 4 against 1 is not going to end like it does now, however unprepared they were (well, in the middle of an assault I doubt they should be unprepared at all). -
AI should not stand in silence - if you’re looking out the window and they are protecting your back (eventually we’ll get there) then whenever they are not backstabbed but fighting face to face either knife or weapon, they must alert clear and loud and all the others should join the melee fight.
-
If you shoot and fail to kill the enemy in front of you, but your gun remains between you two, maybe the first attack of the enemy would be to sidestep or push away the gun so his knife can reach you. That is the moment you can use the butt of your weapon to react before being stabbed.
-
A knife stab face to face should not mean the end of the story - if it’s not completely out of nowhere then you were most probably aware of the enemy and even if it is a lethal stab, it will take a few seconds for the enemy to finish the encounter - slow him down if he’s not backstabbing.
-
Your teammates block shooting the enemy, making close range combat even less fair: as long as the enemy can pass through them, bullets should also pass through your buddies. I’m unsure about this one but the blue “x” suggests that the friendly fire bullets are lost.
For the future:
- I think an even faster “defense” maneuver could be implemented as well - when you push out your weapon with your two hands crossing the path of the enemy, you might be able to stop the stab attempt if lucky. (Let’s say with 70% chance if you’re quick enough.) This could be like 2x faster than using the butt of the weapon.
a) In case an enemy wishes to rush past you, without this blocking move he would be blocked only if he goes right against the vertical mid section of your body (two shoulders colliding is usually not blocking the two persons), let’s say 30 cm is blocked normally (not considering the legs he could fall over as well).
b) If you “block”, a much wider path would be blocked (say 60 cm). And if he’s unprepared (not pushing the attack button and not running) he could be thrown back two steps, not harmed at all but still stopped.
Regarding the path-blocking behaviour, I completely understand why we are able to go through teammates, pathfinding must be hell complicated already in this game and AI would not be able to do anything right if teammates would block. So my suggestion is only about bodychecking the enemy, this should not modify pathfinding at all.
gae
is not a knife problem. Is your problem (and mine) if a player can get to close to kill my entire squad without I get nottice. IS A MELEE WEAPON, you should kill him before he arrive to you!! and if it happens in a building, you should be ready for close combat when you are going inside
There is no need to nerf a knife.
(old school players) "mmm an sniper killed me from that building… let’s flank and try to kill him!!
(Players today) "mmm a player killed me!! what whas his gun!! NERF THAT GUN!!! no no no, NERF THAT ARMY no no no, NERF EVERYTHING, everything that kill me is Op!!!
I’ve had moments where i can knife a whole team as fast as can be.
And I’ve had moments where the A.I. has encircled me while all of them bashed my brains with rifle butts.
Also been the victim to a knife many times.
But if I see someone coming with a knife, I try to never go full Corporal Upham,
never go full Corporal Upham…
It is a melee fight, he can’t fly through the bodies of all the soldiers for God’s sake.
Instead nerfing knife they should add CHAINSAW. Then you are well alerted when ninja master is killing your bots
then, they need to add the option to push the bodies/players like you will do if you want to stab a lot of people in a room.
you can’t Nerf a knife in a melee combat. If someone stab you with a knife like that, be sure you will hit the ground
I guess my extreme long wall of text will not be read by anyone so whatever.
If enemies are blocked by your body, this will already be less an issue.
If you fight against someone skilled and you’re also skilled, chances are that you will be both dealing damage to each other and evade some of the attacks of the others. Or not. But it will surely not be “guy enters the crowded corridor, opens a teleport door through your belly and comes out on the other end of the corridor with 4 dying soldiers behind without slowing down”.
I can only imagine OPs reaction when he unlocks an axe
Problem here is that the AI Soldiers dont react or only looking how one men knifed 6 people.
I love how people complain about a knife in a gun game.
If you don’t want to get stabbed, use your mk1 eyeball and spot the enemy before they touch you, then use your mk2 gamer hands to aim and shoot them.
When you use a knife, you have to commit to it as weapon swap speed is low. As such, they have 0 range, and require only a downing hit, no killing hit, to effectively kill. You have such a long time to shoot a knife user that dying to one is entirely user error through lack of situational awareness. There are no balance issues here.
Knifes should not get nerfed. If you slice someone’s throat, they are dead. Simple.
Honestly this is the weirdest cry for nerf I have ever heard in any game I have played so far.
To some of the suggestions above, player/AI models not colliding seems part of the game physics and helps it flow, this wouldn’t really be a good enough reason to change that imo.
Some quick points on melee balance:
- Keep damage, but increase cooldown for knife attacks (so you can’t wipe an entire room in 5s)
- Decrease cooldown slightly for other melee attacks
- Interesting idea to have players/AI make a (not too loud) dying sound when they get knifed, so that attentive players will notice it if they are near
Other than that, knife attacks are fun! So shouldn’t be nerfed entirely
Ok to be fair it’s not entirely a “situational awareness issue your just stupid”, if your squad is dead and your the only one left alive it’s really easy to sneak through buildings and gaps to walk on some stairs and kill everyone while their backs are too you. If it was that easy to spot someone with a knife sneaking in then flanking maneuvers would be dead.
Do you ever just… look around every few seconds? Honestly, it’s not that difficult. I can’t remember the last time I died to a knife. I stay away from blind corners, make sure I got space between them and my position even when sniping. When inside a capture zone, I use my automatic weapons to clear it, then guard the easy access routes while checking the flank routes regularly.
So if your shooting at people running across a street while on the top floor of a building you are 100% aware of what’s going on in the back alley one building back and have eyes in the back of your head constantly watching stairwells or any other person trying to sneak around a chaotic urban war zone?
I don’t… have to be aware of that back alley? All I have to do is check is whether anyone is attempting to run from the other side of the room to me to backstab me?
Ok so you constantly look behind you every 5 seconds to make sure a knifemen isn’t there.
Pretty much, not quite 5 seconds but regularly enough to know my immediate surroundings. If I know nobody is near or inside the building, aka after clearing it, I generally do not do it for a little while as then there is no need.
