Currently the game restricts opposing player access to different map parts via the grey zone. Since the effects of this (killing players automatically) are basically for all intents and purposes magic, we dont need to bother with any realism here.
So, why don’t we play a bit more with such balance and fun oriented “magical” effects and see if we can use those to reduce the impact of grey zone camping tanks. So lets introduce an armor thickness penalty of up to -80% for all tanks which score kills from the grey zone.
Simple functionality: A tank is on grey zone and kills a player: this starts decay ticker which reduces the tanks armor by 1% per second while the tank is in the grey zone up to -80%. This serves to make the tanks much more vulnerable to any countermeasure also from lower BR players.
Exiting the grey zone instantly restores the armor but returning to grey zone maintains the achieved decay %.
No-one is limited in how they play but the scales are equalized: You can camp as much as you want but this will become more precarious, as you will also get negatives from using the grey zone kill & to hide from enemies.
Great Idea my friend I think this might be the best Idea I’ve seen proposed regarding grey-zone tank campers hopefully the developers get to read this.
Tanks are not that strong on its own due to infantries yeeting TNTs, and rockets. So if that armor decay happens, then people will avoid tanks and move more on planes and will beg DF to increase limit which will be worse. Tanks are strong due to protection from objects obstruction and Grey zone.
There is already simple solution for it which is to build AT canons and 1 shot them, use rockets and rifle, and marking it for planes to destroy it
This is not a solution for Japan in anything above BR2. Their 47 mm cannon does not have the penetration.
Man portable AT solutions have difficulty hitting anything beyond 100 meters and are virtually useless beyond 200.
As someone who has tried to take out gray zone tanks with CAS; it can work, sometimes. The problem is all it takes is one bored engineer on an AA turret or a decent fighter pilot and that rapidly becomes ineffective.
Japan has it particularly bad because of the papier mache armor on their tanks, and the fact that tank destroyers are virtually worthless in this game.
You guys alrady get engineer squad at Tier 1. But yes you guys will be getting a high BR AT canons soon though. But for low tier, American tanks need some armor nerf

Simple solution for bad canon is to get bigger canon:
This would mean that heavy tanks like Panther or Tiger could be destroyed frontally by simple weapons like PTRS-41 or even Boys AT rifle, which would look idiotic.
Very stupid idea it would make overpowered planes even more powerful.
Just give us a blackzone/whitezone which will protect only first 10-40m of the spawn depending on the map.
Turn greyzone into warzone where everyone could come there and fight but is not allowed to place mines there, building stuff also should be limited, only at/aa guns are allowed and ammo boxes, no hedgehogs/barbwires/sandbags to not enable blocking enemy spawns, ofc rally points are banned too
Infantry that come there will be visible on the minimap at all times just like your friendly troops and bots will be more on the alert.
i agree that japan and US AT guns are bad (but completely ok for BR 1-3 battles), but devs have already announced that they will introduce new AT guns for high BR matches.
They are not OK for BR 1-3. Imo the JP AT gun cannot frontally pen shermans (BR 3) beyond around 140m or so (even less with even slightest angle), it will also struggle with grant/lee (BR 2). You have plenty of maps without any chance to flank the tank sitting at 200m+.
So might be OK or might be shit, completely depending on the equipment faced.

Well, sure I guess - allowing shit players who dont necessarily have the specific equipment or possibility to deal with maxed out equipment / downtiered grey zone camper shithead players more easily
Do that and the game is dead where planes dominates the vehicle slots. Tanks strength are the greyzone and hiding behind buildings. Best way to fix it is to buff AT canons or end game rocket launchers
there are weak points(e.g. mg port) on sherman that any AT gun can penetrate (and it is usually OHK).
i agree that japanese AT gun need buff cause they should be able to pen enemy tanks without having to search for weak points and we will get it soonTM.
what is not real thing? front lines are a thing and without breaking through them you cant go into enemy territory.
btw you want magic? from where do hundreds/thousands soldiers come from? how does rally point function? how does APC function? do they just magically teleport? gray zone is perfectly ok when you imagine that you actually have front lines.
if there is specific problem with counters available to the player not being able to kill enemy tank, then those counters should be fixed, e.g. better AT guns, or better AT rocket launchers. solution is not nerf the all tanks cause you cant deal with them. ffs i even suggested giving f2p players second vehicle slot (for plane) to have ability to counter against enemy tanks if you want to play tank.
