Different monetization method: Battlepass

Battlepath isnt fornite exclusive, its a common thing for many f2p games and mobile games. But yeah, you can always screw it doing it wrong, as it should be easy bonuses based on basic daily activity for affordable money per month or season, and not a try hard thing that you need to buy and grind all the time to actually stay competitive. When i see battlepath - it instantly makes me think or at least consider a purchase (depends on how its made and how much it costs&lasts), but when i see shop selling guns it only makes me vomit

The thing about Battlepass is that it affects the game.

Yes. And this system is able to basically pay for itself. To make the battle pass valuable, it needs content. That content costs money to make by the devs, which gets paid for through the revenue that the battle pass generates. It can be repeated for many seasons.

And I want to continue stressing the most important point: ALL FUNCTIONAL ITEMS SHOULD BE PERMANENTLY UNLOCKED AS DROPS IN THE WEAPON/SOLDIER BOXES FOR FREE, while the paying players would simply get a bunch of those items instantly, without having to rely on getting them through the regular progression system.

Honestly war thunders battle pass is enough battle pass for me, it’s hard to grind timed events when you need to grind 2 or more of them

But if it’s ONLY tasks you complete by playing the game normally I am fine with it, just don’t make it too much.

It has to be fortnight’s underaged audience that’s paying for something as stupid as battle passes.

War Thunder and Runescape have events like that which players don’t even do for free, much less pay to do it.

Seriously who pays to grind more? Tencent had to pull of some psychological bullshit for that to work.

Something just doesn’t sit right with me about it, even considering we have a skinner-box system now.

You can grind 5 star soldiers, unless you’re terrible at the game, then it will take you a while.

“Ah yes, psychologically torture people with the threat of missing out on stuff. Totally what we want in this game, and absolutely not more predatory than microtransactions in any way! That’ll go over great with everyone!” - Some dev, probably.

No. Battlepasses create significant amounts of FOMO and are unhealthy for people who are sensitive to that kind of thing. I’m slightly sensitive to it myself.

It doesn’t phase me but it’s something I would never pay for, and I want to support development.
Whenever I see an event like that, I don’t bother because I’m not putting in 4 hours a day for 2 weeks straight to maybe get something I’ll use 4 times.

The intended time for a battle pass is 1-2h a day with the ability to catch up by spending more time if you miss a day

I think it would be cool to see this in addition to current systems.

You can even do it for free but require you own certain premium squads. that could be fun, it would be like pokemon.

what does this even mean

This would be replacing the current proposed system.

No. Just no. That’s literally the worst suggestion I have ever seen.

I would take a battlepass honestly. Fortnite isn’t the only game that uses it and I feel like it’s one of the more tame approaches to MTX.

However, I don’t want it to replace the current progression system. The current progression is a drag and a piece of… anyways. Battlepass is built on that grind. If anything I’d be in favour of a battlepass as we know it (premium and free track) as rewards on the side if anything.

That’s not to say I want to keep the current progression-, upgrade-, and recruitment system. I believe they said they’d change that slot machine system but if the only change they made is to reduce the amount of slot machines then that won’t cut it. That is worse than what Warthunder has in place. At least there you research and grind towards whichever tank you want.

Speaking of microtransactions, what’s up with all the DLC? The game isn’t even out yet and we have how many packs? 6? 8?

No no you misunderstood.
It’s to replace the current proposed monetization system.

We have 8 packs and premium time, as well as the ability to buy literally everything

Oh my bad. As long as we go away from the current system with the packs I’m all for it. The battlepass idea is nice and optional which you either participate in or don’t if you don’t want to bother with challenges.

Also i hope they rework the packs, instead of giving you “premium squads” how about they give premium uniforms and an XP boost to the “premium” squad but they start at lvl 1 same as every other squad. But that’s one of many suggestions which is up for debate and may be completely ignored by the devs

I personally agree they should have let us level soldiers up faster in a premium squad instead of giving them maxed out soldiers by default, as well as just making the guns usable by any assaulters so players end up distributing them across squads

Agreed, battlepasses usually last for a few months which is enough of the time, however it heavily depends on how much time are you willing to spend on almost a daily basis in order to get it (is it multiple hours daily in WT style or less?). And of course, the factor of “if you miss out on this, you are screwed as there is no other way to get it than this time” plays important role.

I had to vote “other” on this one, because as I said previously I´m willing to somehow tolerate its presence (under certain conditions such as partialy replacing current monetization plans) while not liking it at all. After all, both battlepass and lootboxes have the “psychological torture” aspect in common. One feeds on gambling addiction, other one on time pressure (not to mention you have to pay to be allowed to grind/claim grinded stuff).
But is it better than lootboxes? If done correctly, it definitely is.

Enjoy throwing men away in the proving grou-I mean Academy))

One game I know of ( Dead By Daylight) puts the battlepass content into their cosmetic store about half a year after the battlepass expired. This allows people who can’t be bothered, or don’t have the time to grind away, still get the content at a later point with money.

I’m happy to see most of you taking this as seriously as you do and coming with suggestions that can enhance the system.
