Different monetization method: Battlepass

This is a suggestion to replace at least SOME of the currently proposed monetization systems. We as a community understand that the developers need to earn money to make this game a success, but a lot of us feel like the currently proposed systems are not fair enough towards new or non-paying players.

This thread serves solely as a suggestion, with a poll at the bottom to gauge the interest in this monetization system.

I will have to ask all readers to not start any heated discussions in this thread, and instead politely discuss the following suggestion:

Battle Pass

What is a battle pass?

A battle pass is a system where once every one or more months, a set of content is released that is locked behind levels. To unlock these levels, you need to perform basic tasks in the game. Each level contains a “prize” to collect, ranging from cosmetics to items to currency. This prize may either be locked into the “premium” section, or the “free” section. All free prizes can be obtained by just playing the game, while the premium prizes require you to buy into the season pass, often costing between 5-15$. You can buy into the season pass at any time, even if you already unlocked all levels, and claim all previously unlocked premium prizes.

Why a battle pass?

A battle pass offers an incentive to keep playing the game over time and stands separately from the normal progression systems. Even if a player unlocked everything there is to unlock, they have a reason to come back for the battle pass. It is also one of the fairest ways to monetize the game, as even the non-paying players get something out of it if they dedicate enough time.

What should be in this battle pass?

My personal suggestion would be to release 1-3 new weapons per battle pass, in addition of troop/weapon orders, skins, and other cosmetics. The weapons are to be unlockable for free to get from the weapon boxes, while the premium battlepass lets you directly obtain these weapons directly, with these weapons coming pre-upgraded as well, allowing you to skip the later grind to equip your soldiers with the weapons. The skins/cosmetics should be evenly distributed across the free and premium prize pools, while the orders can mainly be locked into the premium prize pool.

What kind of tasks would one have to do to unlock the levels?

These can range from getting kills with specific weapon types (SMG, Rifle, Grenade), point captures, assists, etc. Bottom line: All tasks can be fulfilled simply by playing the game normally. Logging in can potentially also reward points. And above all, the entire battle pass should be unlockable within a reasonable amount of time, like 1-2 hours a day, where you can play longer on certain days to make up for lost progress.

How would this look like in Enlisted?

For this, we can best look at War Thunder and Crossout, as those have battle passes implemented. In crossout, you can get the blueprint to manufacture a part for free, while getting the parts directly in the premium section.

Poll:

The poll is anonymous and your vote can be changed at any time by clicking the “show vote” button and then voting for another option

The community thinks the following about this concept:
[poll type=regular results=always chartType=bar]

  • I like it with the current suggested mechanics
  • I like it, but the details/rewards should be changed slightly
  • I like the concept, but it would need a big rework to fit into Enlisted
  • I dislike the concept

Why would u suggest a battlepass in enlisted? You know in WT it was a shithole

Why would anyone suggest a battlepass

Imo you want battlepass go play fortnite

Reason behind it?

Yes, you can get a premium vehicle for absolutely free by simply playing. For crossout, you can get blueprints to manufacture the parts in the battlepass for free, while the premium reward directly gives you a few instances of that part, upgraded by default.

WT’s battle pass is actually quite reasonable. You get what would normally be a 40$ premium pack vehicle, a 30$ premium pack vehicle, and a 15$ premium pack vehicle for 15$ but without premium time / golden eagles, with another 5-10$ premium for free, with 75 days to obtain it all, where the most active players can get it within 40 days, and casual players easily reach the end as well.

Yea thats what im talkin about…besides fortnite there’s also cod. I dont really like battlepass system actually

COPYING FORTNITE IS A BIG REASON MY FRIEND

Enlisted should be original, thus making their own system

Not copying something from the most cringe game in the history of games

Cringe or not cringe, it has proven to be one of the fairest and effective means of monetization. Fortnite may be cringe, but at least they value their player’s time and money.

prove as much as you want

Enlisted shall be original

Are just in the middle of the second session

So I would rather take a BP than a P2W function.

So copying War Thunder in the worst way is original?

Please disregard the originality argument and give me your opinion on the system itself

As far as I see it, this system provides:

  • The ability for F2P users to obtain premium weapons
  • A method to keep player incentive high

At the cost of:

  • Making premium content less “premium”

Which arguably could be a good thing.

It ain’t original

And it would cringe me so hard seeing it in the game

By PAYING for premium battlepass and PAYING to boost levels

We already have grinding squads, grinding perks and grinding weapons
Now we need grinding battlepass too???

I dislike battlepass systems and the entire “pay to grind” monetization, but if battlepass would replace considerable amount of current P2W monetization options I would be willing to bleach both of my eyes and kind of “accept” it. However, it is just too soon for players to glorify WT battlepass as 1st one was great “testing of waters”, and second one is already a clear downgrade.

No. All levels are obtainable within a reasonable amount of time. And as I said, the premium weapons should be added to the loot drops from the weapon crates when unlocked for free, while you would get a bunch of the guns directly if you paid. I did not even mention paying to boost levels.

No matter the grind, at some point you will reach the end.

And again:

Cringe or not doesn’t matter. Making the monetization fair and non-predatory matters.

Yep. Too soon…theres a lot of work to do to make enlisted a better game

Do you want me to spell it to you?
I H A T E seeing battlepass in a ww2 game

It reminds me of Fortnite which I can’t get out of my head

Also to add this is Enlisted and gameplay is much different than in WT so we can’t be sure

Again, but why? Other than it being from Fortnite, what “downside” does it have? If you want to consider realism, we are way beyond that as progression is never realistic to begin with.
Just saying it’s cringy doesn’t make it a better or worse system all of a sudden. Hating it just because you hate it has no reasoning behind it.

You could just add premium soldiers that you can buy with premium currency.

No 5 stars soldiers!!!

Only decent battlepass out there that I’ve played is the CoD one since you literally just earn XP towards it by playing. The WT battle pass is C&B torture in comparison because they go out of their way to make it difficult instead of a fun event like they used to.

Also paid seasonal content is no bueno
Keep it the hell away from Enlisted
