I am looking forward to the Stalingrad campaign and decided to support the game development further by buying the pack. However I was rather disappointed with some of the weapons choices for certain levels. I will list the weapons below that I think could be different below.
Germany
MP28
So first of all the MP28 is already a starter on Moscow and Tunisia I personally think the MP40 should be the starter submachine gun on the Stalingrad campaign. Even the MP34 would be a nicer option.
MP40
It seems rather odd that the MP40 is sitting at level 16 i think a submachine gun such as the Orița M1941 or the ZK-383 belong at level 16 not the MP40
Pre-war k98
If anything this needs to be the default sniper rifle and another rifle such as the Gewher 98 scoped or the G41 scoped needs to be in its place.
PPSH 41
What is this a red vs blue battlefield/call of duty game ? In a game that is an asymmetrical world war 2 game i don’t think its the best to have the same weapon unlocked at the same level for both factions.
A weapon such as the MP41(r) which is the modified version of the PPSH 41 so it can take MP40 magazines or the Suomi KP/-31 belong on this level both sides should not have access to the PPSH 41.
Soviets
Breda mod .30
So this one honestly makes no sense it should not be on the soviets let alone in the Stalingrad campaign. The first light machine you unlock for the soviets should be the Bren MK1 as it was supplied as a lend lease weapon to Russia during ww2.
Conclusion
Please developers really consider changing the weapon choices as some of the choices are pretty odd no offence to them. Also this guy made a pretty good post regarding the Stalingrad campaign. His ideal version of the Stalingrad campaign levels should be implemented over the current one as the current one is somewhat uninteresting with certain weapon choices. Adding his ideal version of the progression would be much more interesting and give a better variety of weaponry.
This Thread very good please developers read this if you have not all ready have a nice day <3
I’m also interested in the soviet use of Italian weapons.
I went looking around, and I find this reddit post with a picture of two soviet solders operating a breda mod. 30 at Stalingrad, but I’m unable to find any other information. English sources are sparse on soviet and especially Italian wwii weaponry.
I had a brief look and couldn’t really find anything about them using it i just didn’t think they utilized it. Interesting though i wouldn’t of thought that it was used on the eastern front that much.
Devs - let’s give a shitty Breda mod. 30 to soviets to balance shitty mp28 given to germans.
And let’s give both guns to italians for shits and giggles.
IRL, soviets used AVT-40 as their squad LMG’s if there were no DP-27 at hand. (They also had to use DP-27 as heavy MG instead of Maxims).
Ofc, giving AVTs at such a low level might be too much, so maybe carbine version, the AKT-40 could’ve been used instead?
Sadly, devs said they won’t change anything else in stalingrad.
This weapon had been suggested by players several times, it is both balanced and historical accurate for player. Wouldn’t it bee cool to see German using ppsh like in the movie Stalingrad?
The lack of PPSh with the box mag for mid level is still baffling me considering its actually used in Stalingrad and it’s much more common than the PPD-34. Not even having PPD-40 in Stalingrad is a strange decision as why Stalingrad didn’t get that gun but Berlin did despite the gun was already rare for the latter at that point of the war.
Seriously ? If so that’s rather stubborn if they are not willing to change anything in Stalingrad when its not right then that’s pretty bad development.
I agree on everything EXCEPT the German PPSh and MP40 exchange. Copy paste weapons might be boring but it is the most historical and balance considering choice that could have been made.
The SMGs you mentioned as an alternative will possibly make it into the game via premium squads or gold orders which would be a proper way given how rare some were for German hands.
As mentioned in this thread before the Germans called the PPSh 41 that they used unconverted in their own service en masse the “MP 717 (r)” which would be the proper choice of name as well as gun for German top level. While I would love to see the converted MP41(r) in the game the modification appears to have been rather rare. So rare that it is unclear if MP41(r) isnt actually a wrong nomenclature as well as just confusing with the actual MP41 - which was equally extremely rare in Stalingrad to be found as it was mostly a weapon used by police forces and not the Wehrmacht.
The Orita 1941 on the other hand was produced in such extremely small numbers throughout the whole war that it could never properly represent one of the most common German SMGs seen in Stalingrad as it should be for a campaign tree weapon. The ZK-383 on the other hand seems to have been only handed out to the Waffen SS - which wasn’t present at Stalingrad.
Kar98k, MP38, MP40 and MG34 were some of the most common captured guns used by the Red Army. Not even having an MP38 or MP40 for Soviets at mid level as captured weapon instead of a crappy Breda hurt the selection of Soviet SMGs for earlier levels until they unlock the PPSh considering no box mag version or PPD-40.
never heard red army actually distributing captured small arms, excluding early stages of war & late war faust, sure used them when captured on field.
Not that Im against sharing german weapons to soviets, just genuinely never heard red army distriburing captured small arms in such scale as germans did.
And look at those poor guys. Do devs really want us to be that sad? I don’t think so, and that’s why that level should give us the Bren, not the Breda
But seriously, if they make it usable with the new recoil mechanic and make one of the modifications “sight adjustment” (so that I won’t have a front sight that blocks my vision past 50 meters), them it might be good.
I included the Orița M1941 because it’s Romanian and Romanians fought in Stalingrad. And I put it where I did because I think it is a better counter to the PPS-42 when it comes to the fire rate.
I know it wasn’t produced in large numbers, but it wouldn’t be the biggest stretch in the game. That would probably be the FNAB 43 which is anachronistic for the Tunisia premium squad as it didn’t exist back then, and while it already existed by the time D-Day happened, it was only used by the German and Italian soldiers defending the Italian Social Republic from Allies and Italian co-belligerent forces.
