The obvious biggest problem with the body armour was the lack of pouches, a soldier wearing body armour has no quick access to pouches or ammo at all, relying on people around him for that so reload speed debuff and ammo reserve debuffs should be present as well.
Or they could just turn it into a cosmetic.
I fully support you, komrad Ivan.
lt’s high time to destroy 2 br Germans
Interesting ideas.
I still prefer this though: Remove helmet and body armor effect
Cosmetics should have no effect on gameplay.
If you want body armour as a effect it should be a backpack item (as you won’t have the space to carry extra ammunition), though I have argued in the past for a increase to stamina drain rather than sprint speed reduction, it’s a bit of a myth that armour slows you down, what it is is tiring.
Well realistically speaking, most solid plate infantry armor works like tank armor - either no penetration and almost no damage at all, or penetration and often no damage reduction.
So in theory such body armor could survive more than 10 bullets of 9mm easily, but obviously a hit to the arm or to the legs incapacitates a target anyways.
In modern armies armor is there to make you survive lethal hits - not directly to keep you longer in the fight.
Such powerful armor should only be considered if the game actually added proper hit zones, because that plate would only protect the front torso of a soldier.
My answer to Enlisted body armor…
I’ve spent 3,000 applications on all 7 infantry setups for each BR. On all different squads. The most reasonable solution is to refund all applications spent on body armor and remove it from everyone except assault engineers. With the returned applications, players can decide for themselves which cosmetics to get now. I don’t need body armor without the effect. I’d rather redeploy into something worthwhile.
This would be fair. If they remove the -10% resistance and leave me with just the skins, I’ll be very unhappy.
I bet the people running 9 man rifle squads with dual rifle-grenade rifles for every soldier would like a refund for their now useless weapons.
DF is however not in the habbit of compensating players.
I don’t think anyone is actualy asking the removal of the cosmetic options, I haven’t found anyone saying that, just Soviet players saying that’s what other people are saying when in fact they’re just complaining that the damage reduction with no downsides is unfair, unrealistic and should be removed or somehow altered.
By the way, I’m one of those players too. Yeah, rocket launchers got nerfed into the ground—just like assault rifles and flamethrowers. But the Soviet VPGS and German GGP-40 are still somewhat usable at BR 3. It might be worth keeping them if you have the slots free.
Oh, if only you knew the uproar when they took away the burst fire from the G43 Kurz—it was really awful. The gun lost both its uniqueness and its rate of fire.
Well, in random matches, it doesn’t make much of a difference since few players have them. But when you’re in a 4v4 against an equally skilled team, you really feel that advantage. The average damage of German SMGs is 6.8 per shot, meaning that in close quarters, the enemy takes 6.0 damage per hit. That already forces you to land at least three shots.
With semi-auto rifles, it gets even more ridiculous. The FG-422 was already weak after the nerf, and now it has the lowest damage of all its counterparts (except maybe the M2 Carbine). You need two shots to down an enemy, while your opponent only needs one. A fire rate of 200+ RPM doesn’t balance this out. Soon, the AVT/AVS will get a 20-round magazine—great.
I ran the numbers through a neural network, and it confirmed that the FG-422 is the worst rifle out of the four options: T20, AVT, AVS, and FG-422.
My suggestion: Give each nation one unique squad with body armor and leave it at that. If you give every faction body armor, it’ll be total overkill—way too expensive and unbalanced.
the absolute power of the Soviet Union
Doesn’t solve anything, and I’d really like for the British to have access to body armour as a cosmetic option (because numbers wise it really was as common as Soviet ones, working on a British cosmetic mega-suggestion, soon to be released).
Removing the effects is the simplest way to go about it, until a true and realistic system is implemented. Once that’s done there will be nothing holding back adding more cosmetic options for other countries.
Your idea makes sense, because the whole system needs a rework. Either nerf movement speed when wearing body armor, limit it to only stopping small-caliber rounds, or just make the armor itself more expensive.
In its current state, it’s obviously overpowered. It’s like giving the Germans a Sturmgewehr helmet that completely blocks headshots—total nonsense.
Why not?
give it to TT and live with the buzz)
these body armors were meant to protect from shrapnel, protection from bullets would work only rarely.
the best rebalancing is:
- +25% faster stamina drain
- -15% movement speed (all movements like walking, aiming, changing pose etc)
- -25% damage taken from explosions (all types) & fire sources
- -10% damage taken from all weapons
This would be a realistic & balanced approach. BUT it takes a few minutes of work, which gaijin likely wont do. the fast alternative is to just make all body armor cosmetic.
This realistic approach to body armor still keeps the problem in the game that it cannibalizes the customization system, forcing players to use only body armor if its strong enough.
The overa best solution:
- make all current customization body armor in the game only cosmetic, not having any effect.
- make all soldiers in the game have a helmet effect, no matter what type of customization they have on the head
- use the above proposed realistic body armor system for the occasional event/premium squad
Yes, this is the biggest scam. When black helmets without liners give you no 10% protection, but regular caps or officer’s hats actually do.
Even if people know about the body armor mechanics, they have no idea about this hidden exception list for headgear.
They’ll never be realistic so long as they’re saving soldiers from semi-auto rifle fire, nor until they only protect areas actually covered by the plate itself.
This, or backpack slot (with reworked effects). Since backpack slot would mean removal of the cosmetics the earlier is preffered.
Remove the 10% reduction since it’s supposed to be a cosmetic
Or
Implement it for all factions.
There is no workaround…
won’t have that many applications (or resources) to spare. Over the past 4 years, I’ve already invested in all Soviet units with body armor. Now if I have to collect all the German ones too, I’d need to live in this game for another 5 years.
Sure, you can buy them—but the price for a single armored unit or body armor set is absolutely insane.
