Alternative Evolution: BOTS TOO STRONG, BOTS TO WEAK

Ummm…all of the above? :crossed_fingers:

Again same mistake
You just focus on shooting accuracy

Raw laderboard match end battlescore.

Well, game rewards mostly kills so if somebody wants to have some fun and build things or snipe, they can be sure to end up on the rock bottom.

And it’s their right to have fun in a casual game.

Or doing weird pistol events lmao*

I guess ill take that as you dont mind/like the idea on the whole, just basic ai stuff first

Incorrect, the game rewards objective and engineer play in equal manner as kills and the rest.

had one match with 4-5 console players… they all had below 10 kills half an hour into the battle…

kills are by far more heavily rewarded than capture or engineering. full kill is 45 points, kill with someone assisting is 30 points and assist is 15 points. capture is 150 points, engineers get 30 points per someone spawning on rally point, some points (6?) for sandbags blocking bullets.
not to mention killing tanks or planes.

sure you can “play objective” but that also counts someone sniping players inside the cap and being rewarded for cap actions.

micro managment of bots in a fast paced shooter
what could prossibly go wrong ?

I agree. I really think that playing objective and engineering need to have increased value.

Personally I still think this is the best solution for it.

Giving more depth to AI would definitely help the game

I like this idea, at this moment the bots are useless.

Additional Alterations/Additions from comments

*Please note that I have tried to take the essence of your suggestion, But apply them to the Theme I have suggested, where Autonomy mostly gives way to player command. Please comment if its not enough.

Bots general Behavior
(always active “regardless” of stance/orders/Killzone) as suggested by @Serpiko82 @GeneralBrus

  • Bots will still automatically defend themselves withing a few meters (melee)
  • Bots will still throwback grenades, move a meter or 2 and lay down
  • Bots will Lay down when bombs are near.
  • Bots will not react to artillery; it is players responsibility to move.

Keybind V will be spot, Holding V will be Killzone

Additional Formation – Cover Commander (again take from conquerors blade)

This is to try and accommodate players that don’t want to micro (@Serpiko82 ) I believe it is something similar to your suggestion @75621686

This formation will be the “No micro” formation for players who just want bots to react themselves. The drawback being potential effectiveness will be on the low side. But the Bots will keep pace with the player and not fall behind.

SMG Squad might have a buffed Version

While in Cover Commander they will “reactively” engage 360

While in Cover Commander Bots will still only “actively” engage in their weapon arc, and their set weapon range BUT will actively be scanning/sweeping 180 (not static)
image

When given the Hold command while in cover formation, Bots will seek cover in a general circle formation looking in all directions.

Binoculars (As suggested by @61839981 )

When Killzone command is placed via Binoculars it can have an alternative effect depending on squad type. (While ising binoculars left click will place binoc versions of killzone)

  • Mortar squad, using Binoculars to place Killzone will command AI to fire a single round (single press) or a barrage (press and hold)
  • Sniper squad, using Binoculars to place Killzone will allow a tiny primary and secondary Killzone to be placed (a Window or door)
  • (H)MG Squad can order bots to mount mgs, which react only with Killzone command.
  • Tank Squad, coaxial Mg gunners will react to Killzone orders, can be overwritten by commander control.
  • Engineer Squad, AA guns, can order AI to mount AA. Will become twin linked with player-controlled AA and track and fire under player control (will not be perfectly accurate, will create some spread/coverage)

Bot Ammo usage @SexyTent

  • Bots will not consume ammo from the pool
  • bots will reload magazine if below %50 when not having fired after 3 seconds
  • When player swaps to bot, there will be no cycling bolt (weapon will be ready regardless of AI), and weapon will have at least 30% mag capacity (regardless of what the bot was managing)

Please comment if I didn’t capture your suggestion.

Very nice. The mechanics of advanced bot behavior would be useful in the game. But I would still increase their range of effective fire towards a marked target such as a stationary LMG / HMG, and certainly for a sniper.

And what about bots using grenades and specialist secondary weapons?
Would the use of bazookas and flamethrowers still be at the player’s disposal?

Sure. variables are just placeholders to present my idea (borrowed ideas) and show the differences/synergies/pros and cons between them to make it work. You could literaly keep going and expand on anything from here

Although I get the good intentions, I’m afraid this specific part may lead to possible abuses and/or arguments about supposed cheating.

Do you mean like swapping to avoid reloading? (Tried to account with a % of ammo that was enough to defend yourself, but not go crazy)

Or just hot swaping to keep shooting. I considered that but its so disorientating hot swapping, i dont see it being an issue. Most of the time the other player will kill you again in the split second it takes to orientate.

Yes, most legit players wouldn’t be able to abuse it, but we all know that where there’s even a narrow margin for exploit, someone will be doing it…

In the absolute worst case scenario (EXTREMELY RARE),

Summary

the bad guy would be also running an aimbot. In such rare yet possible circumstance, if switching soldier nullified any fire rate restrictions, just by binding ‘fire weapon’ and ‘switch soldier’ to the same key and fast clicking (or auto click), the dude would only need 2-3 squad members alive to keep spamming rifle shots at MG ROF without ever running out of ammo nor overheating.
On the receiving end, you’d see a whole squad targeting you at once with an endless hail of accurate and unnaturally fast fire.

In normal circumstances, still periodically someone would complain they saw a soldier firing two BA shots in a row without cycling, or firing too many rounds from an MG/SMG before reloading.

Ok. Cheats gonna cheat (but will be super obvious)

Ill just say valid concern, but i dont think its a big deal. Because a cheat will fuck you over regardless, this way would be super obvious in replay if guy was doing it and easy report.

I also pride myself on being pretty quick, but i cant hotswap and orientate instantly. Not saying there arent others with this ability but they would be incredably rare

Either way, if even just the part of bots automatically reloading when below 50% magazine became a thing, the rest would be mostly a non-issue.
