What has become one of the most disappointing rewards from the silver crates, the Winchester 1887, really does not belong in the BR that it was placed at. The first point against it being BR2 is the fact that it’s a BP weapon, meaning the quantities of it are artificially constrained.
The more important factors that lead me to believe it should be BR1 come when compared to the Ithica, America’s BR1 TT shotgun.
The Ithica wins out in :
- Rate of fire, 130 vs 90
- Reload speed, 3.4 vs 5.3 (I stop watched both of them, the Ithica has a reload of around 3.4 and the 1887 around 5.3, the 1887’s 5.3 reload is backed up by Enlisted source. I have no idea where the Ithica’s 4.9 came from
),
- It’s a tech tree weapon so they’re much easier to come by.
- The visual recoil is better on the Ithica, making follow-up shots easier.
While the 1887 does win out in shot dispersion, which gives it better range, and magazine size, its downsides compared to its BR1 competition are undeniable. It deserves to be BR1, at least then it won’t be a waste of space in the inventory of everyone who has it.

The Browning five is far superior at BR2, and IMOP the Ithica is probably better at BR1, but I would be in favor of dropping it. Those who actually use it at BR2 can still use it and nothing would have changed, it would operate the same as it did before.

I agree, would be better especially that the Henry rifle is BR I already so both would be nice to use there

The 1866 really deserves a buff as well tbh. It shouldn’t have recoil at all considering how weak it’s cartridge is.

Would like to see it buffed - in the end shots guns aren’t OP no matter what.
Would be fun to see the devs try to make a shotgun meta worthy, just for me to experience the Modern Warfare 2 M1887 akimbo pre nerf nightmare.

Honestly I wonder if we could get away with dropping every shotgun into BR1, even the Auto 5
They’re good up close but really can’t do much at all at medium+ ranges
Plus you’re always stuck single loading them unlike rifles which can use clips

I think the Auto 5 and the 1912 are fine where they are. Really shotguns just kinda need a universal buff to make them just a bit more viable
Except it’s worse than the BR2 shotguns and on-par with the Ithaca
Maybe if their effective range was changed. Shotguns are effective at medium ranges IRL and video games never seem to really replicate that. They aren’t as inaccurate as a blunderbuss

All its stats are better than the ithica except for rate of fire which is negated by the smaller mag. Don’t pretend it’s “on par”
Well that’s just not true. The 1887 has worse visual recoil, which matters more with shotguns. It has a much slower reload even when accounting for the larger magazine size, which matters with shotguns. It has a slower rate of fire, which matters if there’s more than one person in front of you.
The only advantage it has over the Ithaca is the better shot dispersion, which matters since that gives it more range. But overall the 1887 is just slower, it trades speed for range and that’s not necessarily any better than what you could get from the TT.
