I don’t think they could make a system that isn’t a step up from what we have now.

first of all, as an " Early Acess Title " progress should be the last thing of your concern.
insthead, you should think about providing feedbacks and improvements for make this game better.
keeping that in mind, the answer to your question is yes.
Progression will be wiped out due to a new progression system coming, and above all it’s going to be fair against people that are gonna start during open beta. so that they don’t face fully equipped veterans and ruin their first game experience.
