Why so much disdain for sniper and mortar squads?

they are extremely effective both in defence and offence

because people bitch about them hiding in gray zones just spamming Mortars or snipers just hiding instead of helping to attack or defend the point.

by just giving snipers pistols and giving assaulter/medic to mortars, they also are pretty effective as infantry for cqc. 1/3 of my kills with those squads are from normal weapons lol. game doesnt prohibit you to use them as infantry

Because This squad are specialized for support the attack but people use them for ez kill thinking they gonna have more xp in the end

Wen

1 zone kill give you more raw xp than 3 or 4 normal kill

So we hate them because usually are used by selfish player

dunno about pistol on snipers but i do put assaulter/medic into each squads depending on how i wanna balance team but i always make sure that each squad atleast has the engineer there.

i believe we call them spammers for mortars and campers for snipers.

Really a problem built within the game and less so how people use the squads. If you use a motor team or sniper unit and run into cqc at the point then you’re an idiot.

People may not like it but that’s how those types of units are meant to function. The game (playzones and grey areas specifically) needs to be worked on to better incorporate ranged units that allows them to utilize their potential without putting the opposing team at a disadvantage

i dont use them to cqc, i gave them uquipment if I HAVE TO use them for cqc (nobody covers points, must rush to enemy point somethimes). and they are doing decent job when it needs

Oh yeah absolutely I do the same when I run these squads usually throw a assaulter in so I can contest points if I have to

Because people camp 10 miles away from cap with their sniper rifles. You can play closer to cap with a sniper but people choose not to.

Mortars are great though, at least in the Pacific for dealing with SPAA.

Some folks have a kind of myopic view of the game and how it should be played to them if you’re not on the point you’re not helping.

Because it’s super annoying to be killed by random shit you doesn’t see coming. It’s not that mortars, snipers, mines etc. doesn’t have a place in the game. It’s just a very human response for these cheese ways of warfare.

People complain about people who play different than they do.
“Because only my way of playing is good and every other is bad. And f you by the way.”

Mortars are situational, but when used correctly can help sway the game.

Mortars are very usefull at the beginning of the map to fast capture the first objective.

After they are very situationnal. You can now use smoke shell which is very nice for giving extra polyvalance to the mortar squad. People always underestimate the impact of smoke.
At for sniper squad, they are only good for defense when you team already got an advantage.

You take 1 assault squad, 1 infantry or MG squad and then a support class.
Flammenwerfer are the best extra squad you can add.
Not mortar, not sniper, not radio.

Snipers are also good spotters…and can be extra helpful against tank commanders who peek out of their hatches, AAA gunners who are trying to shoot down CAS, HMG gunners who aren’t paying attention, radio operators, engineers building out in the open (a big no no!), and so on.

I think the problem is the usefulness of the sniper class really isn’t promoted within the game…we’ve had numerous threads in the forums talking about all the help a sniper can give the team, if played correctly.

Unfortunately, that takes some experience with the game to understand, and new players get snipers pretty much out of the gate, so here we are.

the sweat lords, toxic players and MLG players - dont like how the squads can get XP while being out of range of SMGs and assault rifles and that they cant farm much XP off them because they are not just running in

I can said that 99% of the sniper player I met are just useless. They hide at the back and not going for the point when the situation require you to do so. Killing way less enemy than frontline player. Busy farming kills and not providing mark when you literally have a scope.

i do use sniper squads in berlin , stalingrad and moscow.

for obvious reasons.

i dont care if teamates or enemy use mortars , snipers, camp , fly 30 min without a single kill.

i dont , give, less of a shit about that, if they having fun i dont care, its a game.
if i m not having fun, in 10 seconds a quit - queue into another batle fixes shit 99% of the time.

everything in this game has a place. everything is effective at certain degree. i have seen mortars cleaning open field points in few strikes that make our team capture it, but i also saw mortars with 0 kills.

practice makes it better i guess…

I dunno, man.

As admirable as i find the “idgaf its just a game and i reroll” as a general attitude, sometimes i think it would just be better if we recognized that this game is not sp and has objectives and win conditions and that is a big part of it.

I mean, i don’t expect people to not have fun, but it wouls be great if they would be trying to play the game.

In chess, you generally move the pieces in the enemy direction and try to take out the the his pieces - you* don’t take chess pieces and shove them up your own ass and call it chess. If you do, that’s probably a different game and not chess - and your co-player would be justifiably upset if you did that while saying you are playing chess.

Same with enlisted. Makes no difference which squad you use, but you should have fun while making a genuine effort towards contributing to the team objective.

*not you, personally. Sorry for the shitty metaphor.

The reason why sniper and mortar squads get disdain is due to how the game is structured, and average player’s… uncreative interpretation of this structure:
Capture the point (Invasion, conquest, confrontation and assault) or destroy a point (destruction).
And that means that most would just (somewhat brainlessly) head over to the point and stay there.

Mortars and snipers are, to some extent, at odds with this - they need to be further away from the objectives in order to properly use what they are equipped with. So, not directly helping the team to achieve victory.

If we had modes like annihilation, meat grinder or assasination (some combination based on killing the enemy, rather than point capture), they… would be in a less disdainful place? They may end up being hated even more.
