Victory in every round I’ve played (which is admittedly exclusively Moscow because I want to grind a whole faction/campaign before moving on) seems to be determined by either A. The amount of engineers building rally points, offense/defense emplacements or B. Raw skill of players in CQC on capture points.
That being said, why aren’t there more engineers? They’re easily the best counter to players with crazy skills and roll over teams without God like players.
When they do their job it’s so much easier to win and I’ve got the number #1 spot a couple times with engineer squads and definitely finish in the top 3/4 when I’m building support structures and capping points.
If every player on a team has atleast one engie per squad you can just constantly build rally points which seems to be the key to victory on offense or defense (Less so on conquest but absolutely still a factor).
So if you do have engies, how many do you take into game? If you don’t utilize them at all, why?
Seems like a lot of players are in too much of a rush trying to get kills that they forget to set themselves up to do it more efficiently.
Similarly, I’ve been experimenting with using mortars on the frontline, and I’m even more annoyed by all of the people who insist mortars only work out of bounds.
I’ve been able to sit on the objective and counter snipers, machine gunners, and just general clusters of troops in partial cover just by marking them, running behind cover, and popping a mortar or 3 onto the marker. No hiding in the spawn required.
I appreciate this because I’ve been trying to find a way to justify a mortar squad over my more flexible squads. I’ve had some good luck but not consistently. I’ll try being more aggressive with it next time.
Oh yeah I just treat it like a long-range grenade launcher with great results.
That ridgeline in the Jebel Farm map or whatever in Tunisia that always has snipers all over it?
Just marked a line, mortared down it, and got 7 or 8 kills.
I have one in every squad, three in engineers squad, wouldn’t go to battle without them.
I am running six infantry squads per game, thanks to that extra slot thing you can buy
People don’t like playing engineers because it’s not rewarded enough. Kills, captured points, and so on are better rewards than just building and helping your team to win you know.
Whether just bouncing between squads for different tasks or exclusively running engies I’ve been able to get to top 3 in most matches so I just don’t get it.
Like boys you can build structures, get kills and win.
Hmm, well six atm, and i don’t get/need to use them all, in a game anyway.
But certainly nice to have diff available squads, depending what happening on the battlefield etc
PS and i don’t fly at all, and tanks hardly ever, wish i could have those inf, instead of tank /plane slots.
All many players care about is being at or near the top of the leaderboard AND, because I guess they are coming from other games where it’s a thing……K/D ratio. “Engineers are boring”
Being a tanker takes care of both of the above…plus it’s an easy, lazy way to farm XP.
Same, I also feel like for balance tanks should take up the slots of 2 infantry squads considering how much more potential and survivability a tank can have compared to infantry.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the developers let us swap vehicle squad slots for more infantry?
I have my assaulter squad set up as a “defense squad” with 2 engineers to build up, a machine gunner to defend the smart way, and the rest assaulters to just suicide-zerg the point when it’s being overrun.
Honestly I think 2 engineers is a must, I remember dying too early in the cbt as an engineer before I could set anything up, so I decided to include 2 engineers to double my chances of success
I am pretty old, born in Truman’s first term, but I really enjoy gaming. Unfortunately my reaction time is sad now. I mostly play arty, mortars and armor but most of my infantry squads have engineers and I use them. I have a good US engineer squad that I mostly use on Normandy beach maps, for AA support, if people are flying. Got 7 aircraft the other day. Doesn’t give me much of a score but rewarding when it helps everyone else go forward. I wish some of the critics regarding noobs were a bit kinder. While I have had some good scores, I also have some sorry games, not for lack of trying, that make me gnash my remaining teeth.
