USSR is severely lacking in early-game sniper rifles. Their BR1 rifle has an abysmal 6.6s reload time, far outclassed by all other nations with a 3.5s or shorter option. This becomes even more painful when all 3 nations get upgraded sniper options in BR2 and you’re stuck with the same BR1 rifle as USSR.
I propose to add the Mosin 1891/31 Dragoon as a BR1 sniper rifle, linked to the existing Dragoon, with similar stats to the current Mosin 91/30 sniper. The 91/30 can then be moved up the tech tree to BR2, linked to the base 91/30 rifle unlock in Tier 2. The only change needed to feel like an upgrade and compete with other BR2 snipers is a significant reduction in reload speed (ideally to 4s or less).
This change would provide a meaningful upgrade for USSR BR2 snipers while still keeping the power level a little behind the performance of the other 3 nations. This is needed to balance out the fact that other USSR BR2 equipment is currently quite powerful in comparison to the other nations.
WW2 sniper rifles are very rare since scopes were expensive, thus only powerful countries could afford to field them in numbers.
On the other hand, sniper rifles were highly sought after war trophies and seen a lot of use even after being captured by the enemy.
If we cannot find a suitable Soviet rifle or a captured and modified rifle (something like captured enemy rifle with Soviet scope on it).
It should be considered to add a rifle like Romanian Vz.24 with IOR scope to Soviet tech tree on BR2.
Its actually different from the current BR1 Vz.24 rifle and is ergonomically better, so it could potentially fill the BR2 role, similar to pre-war k98k sniper.
Romanian Vz snipers were fairly common, its likely Soviets captured them, especially in 1942…
I would love to, but I was unable to create a poll when I made the post, and am unable to edit my post. This was my first post, so maybe it’s related to my forum reputation?
