Before WW2, Japan purchased tens of thousands of Mauser rifle from Germany, include Vz.24(Type Mo rifle I), Prewar Kar98k(Type Mo rifle II)and Mauser Standardmodell 1924(Type Mo rifle III).
Since Japan already have enough Br1 bolt action rifles, Vz 24 is definitely not necessary. In Br2, we only have Type 99 rifle, giving them Prewar 98k or Mauser Standardmodell 1924 would be a good option.
However, keep giving Japan copy-paste weapons would be quiet boring, so personally I prefer the Mauser Standardmodell 1924 as TT weapons, It’s basically a Prewar 98k with grasping grooves and straight bolt handle. It’s famous for it’s Chinese copy(Chiang Kai-shek rifle), which is already discuss in many other topics about Japanese bolt action rifles.
I think it’s better to give Japan the Mauser Standardmodell 1924 and leave Chiang Kai-shek rifle to the allies.

And like, 4 BR1 rifles - most of which are just filler content, because most people will just play the Type 38.
Just buff one of them, make it actually interesting, and put it in BR2.
If Japan is going to get new weapons, it definitely shouldn’t be yet another BA that most people will just ignore anyway (since they’ll prefer the semi-automatic Otsu or some BP/event weapon).
Japan still doesn’t have a proper BR4 rifle. And I would be extremely disappointed if the devs released some unnecessary filler content instead of something that’s actually needed.
Especially if it’s just a lame, renamed copypaste, that would be the only weapon released in that major update to the Japanese tech tree.
Well, I’ve always said that lowering Johnson Rifle to BR3 before US got another BR4 rifle as a replacement was a huge mistake. They should have buffed the weapon instead.
And how would the Johnson rifle be BR4 worthy? It’s got nothing that would make that reasonable when all other BR4 rifles are mag reloads with the same damage, or in the case of the ZH-29 more, and faster reloads with most of them having bayonets as well. The Johnson rifle is not BR4 worthy at all
For example, the Johnson doesn’t have the usual magazine mechanic. And you can just insert few missing rounds into very quickly.
This way, you later won’t be stuck with 4 half-empty magazines (as long as you dont have an ammo pouch or ammo box nearby)
And it seems like you’re just plain ignorant. You can easily buff the reload speed of any weapon to make it viable at BR4. The same goes for spread, damage - simply everything.
For example, Type 4 used to be very strong before the merge. But they’ve progressively nerfed it to the point where it’s just a mediocre BR3 rifle.
It’s all about artificial statistics you can easily tweak for balance reasons. SVT-38 vs SVT-40 are prime example of it.
