In 1924/25 the Thompson rifle lost to the Garand which was ultimately adopted. The Thompson and its full 3006 round continued test until 1929. The first batch of 20 rifles fired well over a thousand rounds without fail until the end of testing.
The original model fed from a 5 round internal magazine while latter models or variants few from a 20 round machine gun magazine. Among other Models a BSA under consideration of the British and a 7.62×54mmR for the Russian, none of these saw production.
