The Artillery issue

Artillery recently has began to become the only method of attacking from either side on the normandy campaign. I find this really takes away from the actual experience of the game because. often times i find i barely get going before my whole squad is rendered useless by arty hitting near and making aiming impossible and even killing some members in the process. putting a limit to how much artillery which can be deployed at one time would help or in the worst case put a cooldown for everyone after a few strikes are made since realistically there wouldnt be an entire artillery division for each squad.

I think that they should actually add naval bombardments to assist the ground troops into capturing the rally points. The German side technically have a superior stance on the beach landings since they have fixed bunkers and weapons to suppress the allies. I would at least want these naval cannons firing at the Germans like the real battle would.

In real battle, the naval guns would not fire as they had troops already at the beach. They bombarded the beach before the landing to weaken the fortifications and entrenchment (which is shown on the map via craters all over the place, holes in the roofs of bunkers an so on). If they fired during the landing they would risk hitting their own forces.
However since this game is more arcady I wouldn’t mind giving the US radio squad an upgrade that would change the artillery barrage into a battleship barrage (smaller circle, only for a few seconds, more damage, kills tanks) instead of the 30 sec cooldown upgrade. Same could go to Germans just with schwerer gustav or some other big artillery peace.

I don’t play arty much now but used to alot. I’ll give you some advice. Don’t take the most direct route to the objective. It is stupidly easy to spam arty behind a cap to kill the reinforcements with only a rudimentary understanding of “my team is this side so their team must be that side”. I’ve killed the same squads over and over all game dropping arty directly below caps to soften up the reinforcements.

Most caps are very well protected from Arty. The famous B cap on swamps is always a crapshow but is also huge fun due to the carnage. there are a couple more like that but the majority are pretty safe.

Arty doesn’t win games, capping and holding down areas does. Too many people on Arty will make their own team suffer. I die to it alot but it is one of the big things that builds atmosphere in this game in my opinion.

The 30 second arty definitely needs to be removed, but we also need to find something new to justify the radio squad existing.

I already made a more complex thread on it, but for something simpler I’m seconding giving the radio squad custom bombardments with different areas of effect and payloads too.
I’m thinking rocket artillery for larger AoE anti infantry and heavy artillery for low-AoE high-damage for anti tank.

Could still drop the radio squad cooldown to a minute or minute 30 rather than the 2:30 radiomen have outside of the squad.

The artillery doesnt just ruin the game for one side it generally ruins it for both because everyone who wants to activly play the game. In moderation artillery would be usefull and can change the tide but with how overused artillery is becoming i dont see much of a fix other than to limit it for everyone.

So artillery is a problem but 250 kg bombs are not?

or the undestroyable tanks…

We can shoot them down and same goes for tanks. Try that with radio or mortar squads unless you have a plane or the possibility to snipe them inside their spawns which is quite rare.

The allies have bunkers facing the germans too. They can also just shoot down from the hills.
Why either is an option is beyond me…

Artillery requires no effort, big difference there.

lmao learn AT

Only if the Germans let them walk up there unopposed to begin with. Which is usually the case.
Germans spawn up there, Americans don’t. That Americans get up there anyway says a lot about German teams.

To be fair, US troops actually spawn closer to the hills then germans + it’s a long detour from the objetive. The game should force US to take the hills first because of germans flanking, not the other way around.

plane takes much longer to reload, you have to aim it right, you can shoot the plane down 100 different ways

huh? are we playing the same game? explosive packs? AT guns? PIATs? planes? flamethrowers?

No they don’t I dont even think you understand which hills people are talking about. The Germans spawn dead center of the Valley for all but the first line.

Likely referring to their overall durability. the crew, and modules are far more durable than they should be.

are you kidding? every tank is one shot with an explosive pack which every single soldier can carry.

Flamers doesnt work properly (except on the M8) except making the tanker “blind” for a short time.

Flamethrower takes out the tanks engine, meaning the tank is sitting ducks and can’t dodge any incoming tnt.

Hm. Never realized that.
