Do you guys think it would work balance wise to be able to use the hull/diver MG like if you switched to the driver you would be able to use it type of thing?
Imo hull mg would be next to useless if it was only player controled. Most of the time you would use it when all your turret crew was killed.
Also some russian tanks have backwords facing MG on the turret. I don’t think it would be used at all (maybe except tanks with slow turret traverse).
Imo those MGs should be AI controled with option for manual aiming.
I think not, the problem comes that bots are way accurate.
If you give them access to the mgs like the rear turret airplanes, they don’t miss a lot of shots.
So, if you are trying to assault a kv from the back, while getting shot by his teammate, I don’t think you are gonna have a lot of fun getting randomly tapped by the mg.
It would make tank more effective than they somewhat already are.
But I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.
Make them very inaccurate but with a chance to hit, you Will think 2 times before running to the tank with a death pack.
(In the end those mgs are useless anyway in player control)
They can be nerfed. I don’t see an issue.
That’s what this MG was designed for and that’s how this engagement should end.
Tanks are good only in the greyzone. If we want to remove grey zone camping (I assume we do) then we need to make tanks more powerfull in the “normal” fight.
Yeah, could be nice.
Usable in driver and commander view (if aiming within it’s firing arch).
just fix greyzone.
They are already just as good as they should be.
Imo tanks that don’t camp in the greyzone are free xp. Their lifespan is counted in seconds after they are spoted.
Ive had probably 3 games in last 6months where enemy has actually effectively worked against tanks.
And rest of games has been pretty much just sealclubbing with tank.
I have the oposite experience.
Both friendly and emeny tanks die in a few minutes if they don’t camp.
Id suggest to try not to drive in middle of enemy infantry.
That usually works.
So grey zone camp as most maps are so tiny it’s impossible to avoid infantry.
Side note
My knowlegde may be outdated as I almost haven’t used tanks for a few months.
it depends on three scenarios
1 scenario:
- you control it manually as a separate turret useless we would continue to use mg of the turret since we can also use the cannon
2 scenario:
- the AI controls here two things could happen the first is that AI kills anyone it sees the second that AI does nothing or shoots in the air
3 scenario:
- and also the most likely one will be controllable together with the cannon
Dont really know single map so small that you couldnt avoid infantry in regular games, exceptions are ofc when enemy actually does effectively hunt on tanks.
But then again, if there is such small maps. Dont spawn it then, its quite simple.
I totally agree, with the same behavior options as standard infantry squad (so you you bow machinegunner don’t just blow your ambush every time an enemy soldier is vaguely on sight).
This would make tank gameplay a bit more realistic and not like tanks are those giant armored living beings only narrowly watching in one direction at a time. It would also make them a bit less vulnerable to infantry in close quarter.
I was thinking along these lines
No their not maps are to tiny for them to function properly. If you want them to get up close and personal you in the end either give them more MG defenses, go full arcade and make them function like in Battlefield, or triple the map size… Most of the tanks have realistic gun traverse but they would only work for targets over a kilometer out as they are to slow up close.
arent they exactly functioning as they should, get too close to inf and your dead.
Quite sure thats textbook example of how to die rather fast.
That’s the thing the maps are so small that if you are not greyzone camping in a tank then you are within 50 meters of infantry which basically means they are already on you and you are dead. The maps are to small to justify the use of tanks in the first place. Tanks in order to function properly need a BIG map.
The average tank vs infantry engagement range was about 320 meters but unless you are at the edge of the map you cant use your vehicle at its proper effective range.
