A number of handguns have been chambered for .30 carbine ammunition. In 1944, Smith & Wesson developed a hand-ejector revolver to fire .30 carbine. It went through 1,232 rounds without incident. From a four-inch (102 mm) barrel, it launched the standard GI ball projectile at 1,277 ft/s (389 m/s), producing an average group of 4.18 inches (106 mm) at 25 yards (23 m); the military decided not to adopt the revolver. Prototype chambered in .30 Carbine.[48][49] The idea for the T29 was driven by logistical reasons and for a weapon to rival the [StG 44] The first two examples used 14 inch barrels whereas the third used an 8 inch barrel. Notable differences of the T29 compared to the M3 SMG was the increased length of the magazine well and magazine release catch to use M1 Carbine magazines. Double column, double feed magazines were easy to load without the use of a speedloader. Ejection port was lengthened for the .30 carbine round with the dust cover acting as a safety.
The 30 caliber carbine round while effective did not make it into a lot of production weapons. While the M1/2 carbines served through WW2 Korea and Vietnam the bullet saw little use beyond. Many prototype weapons fighting for the light rifle program used the 30-carbine round. the choice to upgun the garand for korea may hay sealed the fate of the 30 carbine.
i of course the M/2 unlike the stg44 was never meant to be a front-line weapon. Instead it was meant to replace the pistol in support and rear line soldiers. The idea of using the M1 carbine in a revolver and a smg is a strange one none the less/ but makes some sense as again it was meant as a pistol and not rifle replacement.
Both protoypes they dont belong in the tech tree but would like to see them as a battle pass. seeing an enemy unafraid 9of my revolver until i dont his entire five man squad before reloading. the pistol is just that a br1 pistol. the t29 is a 15 round br3 assault rifle. that looks like i brough a br1 smg to a br3 fight.
