Suggestion: Increase the MG42 Fire Rate to 1,200–1,350 RPM

I would like to suggest increasing the MG42’s rate of fire to 1,200 RPM stock and 1,350 RPM fully upgraded, for both the 50-round and 100-round variants.

What makes this especially confusing is that other German machine guns already have much higher rates of fire:

  • MG15: Approximately 1,200 RPM
  • MG81: Approximately 1,600 RPM
  • MG42: Only 900–990 RPM

If the game can accommodate the MG15 and MG81 at these speeds, I believe the MG42 should receive similar treatment.

Weapon Stock RPM Upgraded RPM
MG42 (50-round) 1,200 1,350
MG42 (100-round) 1,200 1,350

I understand that increasing the fire rate could make the MG42 more powerful, especially the 100-round variant. However, there would also be disadvantages.

At 1,350 RPM, a 50-round belt would be emptied in approximately 2.2 seconds, resulting in much faster ammunition consumption and more frequent reloads.

This would reward controlled bursts rather than continuously holding down the trigger.

If necessary, recoil could be adjusted to prevent the weapon from becoming excessively powerful.

You forgot the poll and this would probably be more a Nerf than a Buff

It wouldn’t let me create a poll and I don’t think it would be such a nerf with the mg81 rate of fire of 1600 it still fires for 3.75 seconds and if the mg42 was upgraded to 1350 it would fire for 4.44 seconds which is a long time and if you do short bursts like they did in real life it could be manageable and once you upgrade your squad the reloads get faster

As one of the biggest fans of the MG42 100, I must decline any attempts at its nerf.
This change is simply unnecessary and would only make the gun uncontrollable at long and medium ranges. If you want higher fire rate, use the MG15 or the MG81.

MG- 42 on tech tree is an Improved version for fix over heat barrel problem and recoil control with reduced rate of fire.
MG-42 on tech tree use Heavy bolt (900 RPM) not Light bolt.
Light bolt (1200 RPM) is use on MG-39 and MG-42 early.

Do you want to turn it into an MG 81, so that it has a hellish recoil?

Perhaps the opposite would be better if the weapon is too inaccurate maybe it gets a horizontal and vertical recoil reduction. Or we keep the 900 rpm and add a 1200 or 1350 version as a folder option. I think keeping a heavy bolt version ergo the current TT MG42 would be good but most often the MG42 is quoted as firing at 1200 rpm and IMO could be pretty good, if not buff the recoil.

That could be a good alternative to only have them adjust the bolt so you can decide how fast you want it to fire so everyone can be happy

They should still add a historical accurate mg42 for the researchable deck tree because the entire purpose the mg42 was so famous was how fast it shot, how controllable and reliable it was but just having the mg42 only at 900 rpm is very disappointing

Bro only reason I’m playing the germans is for the Tigers and the mg42 but the mg42 isn’t even half what the historical one is and if they actually make it historically accurate it wouldn’t have that much increase in recoil when the real life one was very controllable only actual downside would be the ammo being drained to fast

Yes, but in real life, MG42 was almost always used in a deployed state and soldiers did not run around with them as we do in the game.
Besides, a max upgraded MG42 is easy to control with correct perks when you are deployed.

the exact same would be even if the fire rate was upped to 1200 just look at the mg15 it has 1200 fire rate and is still controllable and once you upgrade your soldiers the recoil gets better

i am for increasing ROF of mg42 to 1200(although idk if it should be stock or fully upgraded) as it is most cited ROF in literature. also i am for introducing mg34 with 100 round belt that would fill the gap of current mg42 100.

Thats a myth. Germans did not use heavy bolts during WW2. (exept for some very rare cases in testing) The heavy bolt came around with the MG3 post war.

Can you do basic math? Oh wait you clearly cant. Allow me to rephrase that: Why cant you do math?

1200 is 300 more than 900. Thats a 33% increase, much less than 100%

lmaooo I wasn’t talking about just the fire rate lil bro I was talking about the sound the damage the squad the ammo I said the entire gun isn’t even half to the real life one but it’s fine cause you’re illiterate so i’ll let it pass this time

The 1,200 rpm would just make the 42 unusable the recoil alone would be annoying.

If nothing else were changed then yeah that could be the case, I would prefer if they decreased the recoil a bit to help though. Another thing is if the 1200 version was the only MG 42 available then that wouldn’t be too fun, Instead it would be a lot better if the 1200 rpm version was a foldered option and the 900 was retained in the TT so Germany gets both… :peace_symbol:

Personally, I don’t really care since I don’t use many MG42’s anyway. In fact, other then the Premium German MG squads, I don’t use German MG squads above BR3, and I use the KE7 or the FN Model 1930. However, I actually like it where it is simply because it is fairly controllable, and adding ROF might spit out more lead, but it doesn’t always make the weapon better. The Fedorov rifle is an example of that. It blows out so much lead that 80% of your rounds go over the enemies head. The FNAB on the other hand could greatly improve by just bringing it’s ROF out of the stone age. I can throw rocks at a faster pace then it can hurl lead. :joy:
