This suggestion is based upon what muzzle devices and attachments Thompson SMG variants have in our game, their rate of fire, feed system and reload speeds.
Listed stats are for maxed out weapons, the effect of changing a certain stat would be the proportional for stock weapons.
1. M1A1 - BR 2
Recoil - 36/14, RoF - 690rpm, Recoil Control - 60%, 2.3/1.8 s reload, 30rd mag.
After having its BR lowered, the gun became a BR 2 weapon of choice over Lanchester SMG - it shreds enemies at close range and can be used in short bursts at medium range.
Suggestion: Increase recoil from 36/14 to 39/14, to make Lanchester and Owen SMGs worth using, and make M1A1 the obvious choice only for close range.
.
2. M1928A1 - BR 3
Recoil - 32/13, RoF - 810rpm, Recoil Control - 60%, 1.5/1.5 s reload, 30rd mag.
Differs from the previous Thompson in slightly less cluttered sights and a muzzle device, which expectedly lowers its recoil.
Stats make sense and the weapon is fine as it is - strong at close range but loses against other SMGs at medium distance, no need to change it.
.
3. M1 - BR 4
Recoil - 34/13, RoF - 920rpm, Recoil Control - 60%, 2.2/1.8 s reload, 30rd mag.
They all look so similar, don’t they?
Despite not having a muzzle device, this one has its vertical recoil in-between the previous two models, at 34 points. However, the rate of fire increase over M1928A1 is not that high to use the thing at BR 4, making the weapon an obstacle in the tech tree, sadly.
Suggestion: Increase recoil from 34/13 to 39/14 (equal to BR 2 M1A1 which also doesn’t have a muzzle device), and lower the Battle Rating to 3, to make the weapon a sidegrade to M1928A1 with slower reload and bigger recoil, but higher rate of fire.
.
4. M21/28 (box magazine) - BR 4
Recoil - 39/10, RoF - 810rpm, Recoil Control - 70%, 1.5/1.5 s reload, 30rd mag.
Same as M1928A1 at BR 3 in terms of muzzle device, reload speed and rate of fire.
However, despite having the forward grip, vertical recoil is 22% higher (39 vs 33), which is partially compensated by 30% lower horizontal recoil (10 vs 13). Still not worth using at BR 4, unless…
Suggestion: Change the recoil from 39/10 to 23/10, since the weapon has both forward grip and a muzzle device. This way vertical recoil would be very manageable, compensating for bullets being too slow as for BR 4 standards, and horizontal recoil would be slightly less than that of M1928AC (50rd drum mag) at 13 points, assuming heavier magazine under the recoil vector (aka barrel) makes it harder to control horizontal movement of the gun.
.
5. M1928A1 50 (drum magazine) - BR 5
Recoil - 23/15, RoF - 810rpm, Recoil Control - 60%, 2.9/2.5 s reload, 50rd mag.
The weapon was bad, ignored in favor of anything from M2 Carbine earlier in the game history to Hyde 1944 until recently, when M1928AC was introduced in the tech tree, completely killing this Tommy.
However, it can make sense and become a viable option.
Suggestion: Increase recoil from 23/15 to 25/15 (following the logic of heavy drum lowering vertical, but increasing horizontal recoil, based upon BR 3 variant with 30 rd magazine), and lower the Battle Rating to 4, to make the weapon a sidegrade to M21/28 with higher recoil, but also higher mag capacity.
6. M1921AC - BR 5
Recoil - 13/13, RoF - 1040rpm, Recoil Control - 70%, 2.6/1.9 s reload, 50rd mag.
The definition of what a BR 5 Thompson should be - high rate of fire, controllable recoil which actually allows the use of other Weapon perks of a soldier, a gun that in some scenarios is better than Hyde 1944. No need to change it.

In fact the Allies are the only faction I have excellent lineups across all the BR levels. The Soviets and Germans are excellent BR2-5, and Japanese just BR2 and 3.
