Hello bajtársak and fellow forumdwellers, as I promised yesterday, I deliver a suggestion on a sniper G41 for the tech tree.
First of all lets discuss the necessity
As most of you are probably well aware, European Axis don’t have any sniper rifles for BR3, I have already dug myself into the matter in the past and found no suitable weapon other than the Gewehr 41 or captured scoped SVT-38.
Copy pasting the SVT-38 is far from ideal.
While adding the scoped G41 needs to be done without ruining the premium scoped G41’s uniqueness.
The scoped Gewehr 41 in game
We do have a scoped Gewehr 41 (Walther) in the game, with a ZF-41 scope mounted on the weapon. The squad was originally added to the Moscow campaign.
ZF-41 is a 1.5x magnifying scope, it is Germany’s most mass produced scope during world war II.
Now onto the actual suggestion
Scoped Gewehr 41 (Walther) ZF39 scope
This picture has been circulating on the forum for a while, it’s from an original Gewehr 41 (Walther) that has been auctioned by James D. Julia auction house.
The webpage cannot be found on the website anymore but it has been archived.
The rifle itself is a 1943 production Gewehr 41 rifle, everything about it appears to be genuine, all serial numbers are matching. The rifle has rails cut into the receiver to accept ZF41 scope, however this rifle was mounted with a ZF-39 scope instead.
ZF-41 scopes were very unpopular with snipers and sniper schools rejected the design as its 1.5x magnification was found too weak for long range shooting, though regular infantry were happy to have them as they were suitable for sharpshooting.
The scope itself is a ZF-39 K. Kahles Wien 4x60 sniper scope made in Austria by Karl Kahles manufacture.
These scopes were usually equipped on Karabiner 98 kurz rifles instead, which most German snipers preferred.
Another unusual aspect for German sniper rifles is the scope being mounted to the side, this was obviously done to allow the rifle to be reloaded via stripper clips, however the norm for German sniper rifles is that the scope is mounted directly above or atop the gun. However the same cannot be said about Austria, Mannlicher 1895 sniper rifles had their scopes mounted slightly to the left to allow en-block clips to be loaded. This is a very practical feature so it is only natural that an Austrian manufacturer included it.
The ZF-39 scope itself is already in the game, mounted on scoped Kar98k and scoped pre-war Kar98k rifles.
I’m not sure how common this configuration was, It is entirely possible that this is actually a one of a kind gun made for a private contract and it’s also possible that this rifle is a lucky survivor of a small batch.
