Currently the event version of the Lewis gun is called the “lewis .303” however this makes no sense because .303 is the most common calibre the gun was chambered in. Usually when a specific calibre is mentioned in the name of a gun it’s because it’s a different version (think Gewehr 43 chambered for 7.92x33mm kurz).
Therefore I suggest that the “Lewis .303” should be renamed. Here are some ideas I have:
• Lewis gun (early)
• Lewis gun (ww1)
• Lewis gun (polished)
• Lewis gun (shiny)
Whatever it’s name becomes it shouldn’t be Lewis .303 as this suggests that the calibre is what makes it exclusive which is wrong because it’s the most common calibre it was chambered in. (The description would probably need updating to buy that’s less important).
Would you like to see the Lewis .303 be renamed?
if you have any better ideas for names please comment them.

Sure that works as I said in the post I don’t mind what it’s changed to as long as it gets changed.

“Lewis Mk I” indeed makes the most sense.
Not only because it was the official service name, but because most of us are still waiting for the promised tech tree Lewis gun, which should by all rights be the Lewis Mk I*. If the devs are intelligent, they’ll make the stats between them identical, so a minor name difference won’t matter, they’d only be cosmetically different.
By the way, I’ve already written a suggestion on correcting British small arms names, including the Lewis. If anyone is interested in the subject, please check it out too.

But the event gun and the tech tree version can’t both be called Lewis mk1 because that’s because too confusing.
As I stated, if they’re just cosmetically different, one being event and the other being in the tech tree, then it doesn’t matter, really. A Lewis is a Lewis is a Lewis.
They’d act the same way as “Owen Mk I” and “Owen Mk I (Camouflaged)”, or “MP 40” and “MP 40 (White)”.
Do you need to know which one you were shot with…? Not really.
Another beauty with this is that the Soviets, who didn’t adopt it directly, would still have theirs refered to as a “Lewis Gun”, simple and generic, because it’s not ‘their’ gun.
Meanwhile, the Commonwealth versions, the home nations, gets their names official and streamlined.

I don’t really care what they call it as long as I get more in game…TT would be ideal.

I am 99% sure its named like that because the BR3 USSR premium lewis gun exists and they had to make them different somehow
I also think it was teased ages ago that the USA faction might get .30-06 Lewis guns in the tech tree which might also be why its named like that for the allies
I was literally going to make the same exact post!
I honestly think they should add the original Lewis to the Research Tree. We can treat this event one as a skin because it is a little shiny.
I’m not opposed to other variants, but I still think we should have the original. We have the WW1 BAR, why not the WW1 LEWIS!
Why would they do that when both those factions don’t even face eachother?
My theory is spaghetti code. Or my other theory is that they plan to add a .30-06 lewis gun to the allies
Lewis, why isn’t this in the research?
Maybe it would be a good thing if the dev’s changed the Lewis .303’s name, however, I would rather they spent that time improving their bots, addressing the body armor issue or any of the hundreds of issues players have complained about for years. So many functioning things that need fixed that I can live with a weapon name.
