The carriers were an interesting feature back during the Pacific campaign, but nowadays they’ve been left as an outdated and annoying feature.
Low tier Japanese planes, except the A6M2 now, have to spawn with no energy and are then expected to survive against P-38s and other planes that don’t have to carrier spawn. On top of that, already bad aircraft like the FP-3 and Dauntless are made worse since they have to carrier spawn whenever in a Pacific map. But the carrier spawn problem is especially bad for low tier Japan since the best way to take out a greyzoning Sherman (which there are a lot of) is with a plane, but it often takes too long for a plane to take off and make it to the battlefield for it to truly be effective.
Once you get to high tier, the carriers become even worse. Pilots who are outmaneuvered or lacked the situational awareness to notice enemy planes initially will often fly back to the protection of carrier AA. Carrier AA only serves to negate the skill of pilots by leaving bad players with an easy escape, an easy escape that also allows them to turn around and begin chasing the plane that should have killed them. The problem is especially bad with jets, primarily the Meteor.
Ideally, the carriers would remain as a place that any plane can land and repair at, but without the protection of AA. If you lose your dogfight then you deserve to get sent into the sea in a fireball, not do laps around the aircraft carriers and wait for the enemy plane to fly away.
I don’t think all planes should be equally bad in that sense, plus I never had a problem with jets bombing in high tier. That would also increase the effectiveness of greyzoning tanks though, which are already very effective in the Pacific
I’m so sorry to spoil your hopes, but I just got back to the game after what must have been a year or more.
And even then, the topic of introducing airfields for all planes, and even balancing out the air spawns, had been rejected for MONTHS.
They still haven’t changed anything as far as I’m aware. That makes me very certain that they will never change anything and they will leave planes in the state they’re in. Correct me if there have been changes.
They just recently made the A6M2 an air spawn, but otherwise we’re still stuck with the carriers. I don’t know why people want carrier spawns to remain a thing.
Oh no, that means they didn’t yet understand the problem! But I guess it’s some consolation that they did something, even if they’re still fundamentally oblivious
Air spawn plane should have lower initial energy
And their resupply point should be further to make up for the performance gap of carrier-based aircraft
Make carrier plane unique in maps that were design for them
Because people don’t like getting killed by them and look for any reason to nerf them… i challenge anyone who thinks these should be added to tell me different… and i will most likely respond sarcastically making fun of your skill issue.
It’s cool spending a minute getting in the air and having absolutely no energy? Have you ever taken off from carrier in d4y1? That is not cool… that is repetitive task that is extremely annoying.
But the Pacific maps were designed for Stuarts and 60kg bombs, while the M8 Scott and Ho-I were there the likelihood of running into one was immensely low.
Saying “The Pacific was designed for carrier spawns” doesn’t make any sense cause I don’t remember this many greyzoning Shermans back when the carriers were introduced.
