The benefit to the game this would bring is to make the M1 Garand more competitive at BR 3 compared to its counterparts with 10 round clips and in the case of the Johnson topping off at any time.
The reasoning is that it should be much faster to load compared to its counterparts because of how its reload works. For most guns the reload cycle is as follows. Open bolt/remove mag→Insert clip/mag→close bolt/rack bolt. The Garand however functions very differently as the bolt automatically locks open after running dry and automatically shuts after inserting the clip. Resulting in the reload cycle being only inserting the clip making it only a 1 stage reload compared to the normal 3. The alternate reload is slower because you have to pull the bolt back to eject the clip but this is still only a 2 stage reload making it the same speed as a normal alternate reload.
Based on this one could argue for the reloads being as low as 1 second and 2 seconds respectively as this is the average time of a stage in most reloads but I think a more conservative 2 seconds and 2.8 seconds respectively works better.
This also would result in more use of the doctrine the gun was really used with, only reloading once the gun is empty. An idea that could increase immersion and encourage this more would be not getting the clip back on an alternate reload. The reasoning behind this being that you would have a hard time catching the clip once it’s ejected and even if you did all the rounds would have fallen out because there would no longer be tension holding them in place. I am not sure this would be a good idea but it could balance out a faster reload if you think it’s too OP and offers a unique feature to work around.
As always any feedback or input is requested and appreciated.
