Please Adjust Sniper Scope Magnification Power and Reticles to Match Their IRL Counterparts

I personally find it strange that DF took the time to model different scopes on different sniper rifles, only to give many of them the wrong magnification power and reticles.

Take, for example, the aforementioned Japanese rifles:

The Type 97 rifle used x2.5 magnification scopes and the Type 99 rifle used x4 magnification scopes, but in the game they’re both x5 and have the ZF39 reticle instead of the correct model.

Speaking about the ZF39, even the German sniper rifles are not exempt. ZF39 scopes on Kar98k rifles were x3 or x4 magnification scopes, yet in game they’re somehow x8. Same issue with the following:
Gewehr 98 - x3.5 (should be x3 OR x4, not in between)
Carcano M91 - x7 (should be x3 or x4)
FG42, G43, and STG44 has the ZF4 with the correct x4 magnification.
This again highlights the strangeness that is the Darkflow magic scope system

Oddly enough the Carcano M38 Sniper has the correct x4 power, showing that they are not incapable of adjusting the powers correctly. Yet the same problem occur, where all of these rifles are using the ZF reticle, when logically the Carcanos should have a different one.

Now the Allies: The M1903 sniper series are correct in their x8 magnification power, with the exception of the M1903A4 model, which uses the x2.5 Weaver scope on its model, yet somehow has x6 power in game, AND still the same ZF scope reticle problem on all of them.

The Rifle No. 4 MK. I (T) has x6 magnification even though it’s using the x3.5 MK32 scope on its model. Although it does have the correct reticle model.

M1C Garand weirdly has x5 (should be x2.5)
M1D Garand (Sniper M1 Garand in game) has x6 (should be x2.2 or x2.5)
and both rifles strangely use the same reticle as the British MK32 scope.

Finally the Soviets. There is not much wrong with the reticles on Soviet sniper rifles, considering that the PE and PU scopes were Zeiss copies, but there is an error regarding magnification on the M91/30 Sniper. It has x7 even though it uses the x3.5 PU scope which it shares with the Sniper SVT-38 and 40 (which HAVE the correct magnification).

Final note: These magnification and reticle model issues might not seem much, but it could add more potential versatility to the sniper class, not to mention additional historicity into the game. Please adjust it, thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to post all this. I was going to do it myself but now I dont have to. :slightly_smiling_face:

Every unscoped rifle already gets x2 zoom by default - realistic magnification does not work with this setup, otherwise there’d be no benefit to using a scope - the scopes must be higher.

That is why, generally speaking, all scopes have x2 more zoom than they would in real life, because they get the scope’s number (most often rounded up), then get the base x2 on top.

If that was truly the case, then:

  • Type 99 would have ×8 magnification
  • Gewehr 98 would have ×8 magnification
  • Carcano M38 and Carcano M91 would have ×8 magnification
  • Rifle No. 4 would have ×7 magnification
  • M1D should have ×5 like the M1C

The logic that simply because the zoomed in ADS is already ×2 therefore they needed to apply extra zoom on scopes simply does not follow, especially when zoomed in ADS and regular ADS are separate options.

Plus, just like I had pointed out, the in-game Carcano M38 does have the correct magnification power despite your zoomed in ADS argument.

Okay, scopes with high enough base magnification does not get an increase, my bad.

That still goes no way to help the fact that a x2.5 scope is worthless in a game where everyone already has x2 as a base, whuch remains my overarching point. You focused on a side issue, without actually tackling the actual problem - which is really disingenuous.

And, to explain why I thought as I did - this is actually the general standard of Commonwealth sniper rifles in game (they get x2 more than IRL). I’ve written suggestions on them in the past (and plan to write more), so I wrongly assumed this was a universal thing rather than perhaps something only for certian (sub-)factions.

P14 (T) being a prime example of a rifle whose zoom would be worthless, if it was realistic.

It does help. It adds extra magnification on top of the preexisting ADS zoom. A 2× zoom is still 2× extra zoom over others. And that is already a meaningful enough addition, especially when there are 3×, 3.5×, and 4× scopes in many other scopes. This is especially important for rifles that doesn’t allow you to use its iron sights when used with the scope, like the M1903 or the Mosin M91/30.

Also I’ve addressed my disagreements with your argument, so what do you mean I’m addressing a side issue?

Lastly, the maps in this game are often not even big enough to justify ×8 magnification anyway, especially if you’re playing the objective. And as I’ve stated prior, reducing the zoom of scopes to their historically appropriate numbers would allow for a much more flexible sniper gameplay on Enlisted.

You don’t know how magnification works in this game.

The scope overrides the base zoom of all weapons. It does not add x4 (or whatever); it gets x4 magnification when zoomed in.

Oh, okay. So in that case, tell me why:

  • Gewehr 98 has 3.5× zoom
  • Carcano M38, FG42, G43, and STG 44 have 4× zoom

Yet the Rifle No. 4 (T), which historically had a 3.5× zoom had to be upped to 6× magnification?

Same case with:

  • The M91/30 Sniper Rifle which historically already had a 3.5x zoom
  • The Type 99 Sniper Rifle which historically had a 4× zoom
  • The Kar98k which had 3× or 4× magnification

If the in-game scope mechanics simply override the native ADS zoom, then why do these inconsistencies exist instead of consitent applications across the board, especially when several models are armed with the same scope models?

Your suggestion touches all scopes, even the lower ones, and for reasons explained above this should not get implemented. There is no “partial” or “qualified yes” option in the poll.

Besides, you aught to include sources for the weapons you’re talking about, anyway… as the rules for writing suggestions specify.

Not that writing a single suggestion to make individual changes to, essentially, every single sniper rifle in-game was a wise move to begin with… especially with only a single poll. There are genuine reasons for why there aught to be exceptions depending on the scope, a blanket yes/no on everything leads to a situation like… this.

Welcome to Enlisted.

I thought “(≈)IRL+x2” was a neat standard, but that wasn’t even universal. That’s how things go, I guess.

Also, the Carcano M38 with ZF scope is a post-war fake. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Where exactly did you explain your position other than “Scope zoom overrides ADS zoom therefore 2.5× magnification useless.”

You did not address any of the other points that I made regarding the versatility of sniper rifles in this game nor anything about the exaggerated zoom levels of certain in-game sniper rifles deapite some others having historically accurate zoom levels.

I would have been glad to provide sources had the rules been clarified first, yet you didn’t seem all too interested in that before I pointed out all of the inconsistencies within the in-game logic.

And on top of that, even your own logic of “~IRL × 2” had also been proven to be faulty.

So whatever it is that you’re trying to point out, I’ll no longer entertain it with a reply.

Have a nice day.

It does not need explaining… I hope… it speaks for itself.

If I need to, then you are not the right person to write a suggestion on this. Why should I use a scope that obscures my vision, if the base weapon will give me the same zoom anyway?

I do not need to talk about your entire suggestion, when I only disagree on a portion of it.

IRL lower magnification scopes needs to be noticeably higher than the already present base magnification, otherwise they’re not worthwhile additions. I don’t know in how many more ways I can say this.

The feeling has to be right as well - 3.5 is a noticeable increase IRL, but woefully mediocre in-game. Increasing the magnification restores the gap difference. Meanwhile, x8 is already large enough that you won’t notice the smaller gap.

This is all that this is - if you have individual weapons you think has their differences too big to be warranted within this framework, then make a suggestion about those ones. I will not agree to a blanket change of everything - especially since that’d mean making near x2 IRL scopes useless.

I assume you had read the rules before writing - I only felt the need to specify one of them before stating that you should, again, make individual changes rather than a blanket ‘change all’ post.

Sorry that one doesn’t think of everything immediately - I wasn’t the one who sat down and wrote a suggestion, I did not come prepared to discuss this topic.

I agree, some assumbtions of mine have been incorrect, but nothing ultimately in terms of this specific concern. As I’ve explained, me being wrong on that does not invalidate my LARGER point.

And it’s still true, just not as universal as I thought… there is a pattern of lower magnification scopes getting higher ones.

Us older folks with bad eyes appreciate the extra zoom options. It also just adds some variability and doesn’t make all snipers feel the same. I quite like having a low zoom and a high zoom rifle to choose from. Don’t really give a shit what was standard.

This seems like a simple soltion to me. If scopes realy do overide the base *2 zoom, than simply remove *2 zoom from all the scopes and then buff them to the above numbers.
