here is comparison to last year
so overall ~3% reduction in desertion rates compared to total playerbase.
in relative terms there are ~20% less deserters compared to last year.

That is good as for something like this I’d consider a comparative 15 percent decrease as a success.
But it also means they need to try new things still but keep the penalty.
this doesnt mean it is cause of penalty. it could also be cause of better map selection algorithm.
There has been no actual changes to map selection.
you forgot map likes/dislikes that was introduced at same time as desertion penalty.
no wonder i didnt noticed any change. 3% reduction…does that means that over 100 players i meet, meaning 12-14 battles broadly, i should see 3 less deserters than before…or 1 LESS PLAYER DESERT EVERY 4-5 battles…
Forgive me if i dont feel like calling that an improvement at all, given the price paid in massive player backlash and discomfort, but i guess some would call that a total success. points of view.
Out of curiosity how did u collect this data? Replay meta data or personal match history?
Those don’t impact map selection at all. They just inform devs which maps are great and which suck.
I was also involved in a data collection on replays. For the person involved map preference had zero impact.
I myself had found that to be the case as I downvoted every variation of confrontation and still get it all the time.
that is cause algorithm doesnt include individual preference, but group preference when choosing map. so even though you hate it, if others love it, then it may be picked (e.g. 19 people love it, 1 person doesnt, it gets picked)
i have commented that their algorithm sucks and that most hated maps should be eliminated from map pool choice.
In my opion the 20% penalty is just a joke and barely worth mentioning for veterans who had their TT already unlocked.
The most annoying bit about the “penalty” is that after the match you got an additional pop-up but that is about it.
To be honest ever since they added it I no longer feel bad about just deserting my teammates since now i am penalised even if it isnt impactfull at all. So in a way I do end up deserting more ever since.
same here. dont see any improvement at all with this map selection.
in this case, like in many others, there are only two statistical valuable numbers: 100%, meaning you will ALWAYS meet the condition, and 0%, meaning you will NEVER meet the conditions.
all intermediary values are only worth as plausible deniability and PR ammunition.
by the way,
this is absolute gold.
But shouldnt that make universaly disliked modes like conquest almost none existing then?
I dont believe that last time someone posted stats about the gamemode distribution there was a significant lower amount of conquest lobbies with I believe 25% of all matches beeing that mode just like the rest.
Is this confirmed either by data or by representatives?
there are still masochists that actually like conquest. also majority of players probably doesnt even know that map like/dislike exists.
will go check data now (btw data above may be slightly incorrect cause i didnt include new maps that were added in last year).
| total battles | assault | confrontation | destruction | domination | invasion | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ~3 weeks in 2025 | 327,784 | 20,040 | 39,612 | 41,804 | 41,812 | 184,516 |
| 6.11% | 12.08% | 12.75% | 12.76% | 56.29% | ||
| 3 month 2024 | 2,077,802 | 96,559 | 209,173 | 217,361 | 206,609 | 1,348,100 |
| 4.65% | 10.07% | 10.46% | 9.94% | 64.88% |
this data may be slightly wrong cause i am using premade queries made 2 years ago and iirc i need to update campaigns with new maps for it to pull all data, but it is good enough for comparison.
edit: looked at wrong numbers… numbers are even worse than before… invasion was reduced, while other modes have increased.
