Now that the event is basically over, here are my three key points on why this event is mediocre and a let down comparing it to the previous events
Some of the tasks do not depend on players performance alone - I am pertaining to the “50 spawns on rally” or in extreme cases “10 vehicle kills” tasks. The rally task has a nice objective and forethought, I assume it was done to get more players building useful rallies, but what happened was it depended whether your teammates would die or not, hence it’s another time consuming task that you essentialy can’t control. Doesn’t help that 10 people all building rallies, I’ve had an instance where people would barbed wire friendly rallies to discourage spawning on others rallies. 10 vehicle kills depended on the enemy too, I faced a lot of grey zone camping vehicles where they outright refused to push, resulting into slower progress of kills, doesn’t help also how people got toxic for “kill stealing”.
Extremely time consuming - You released this event on a holiday, where people spend time with their families and what not, the tasks are designed to be as tedious and longer as like I said it’s not a player controlled event, if you were to compare it to the previous events such as Score events, it’s way quicker and it depends solely on player performance and doesn’t require them to play a certain playstyle. 10 matches can also take a while to complete, you may complete all of the events (if you’re real lucky) in less than 10 matches.
Forces players to a certain playstyle - In my case, I am an infantry player, I focus on dealing with infantry rather than vehicles/rally point building. Nothing wrong with doing other tasks like killing vehicles or rally point building, the problem is when you force everyone to do the same thing. Previous Score events just relied on what you’re good at and rewards players for doing well.
So how would I change or try tackle these issues ?
Score events - These tasks depend on the player alone, no more relying on your teammates deaths or your enemies gray zone tactics. If you do good and so will your event progress.
Smaller requirements - I remember a time where all you needed was 5k score to complete 1 event stage and now we have 20k score, that’s a 300% increase in score alone. Imagine additional requirements too.
Limitless stages - What if let’s say you have a job, you only have a 1 day off per week, welp that’s sorry for you cause you may only complete it once in this week. If you think about it, limitless stages will give you the same hours as the 2 day reset, but it gives 1 extra benefit to the players, they can complete it any time during the duration of the event, give your players some convenience
TLDR:
The event is mediocre as it doesn’t rely on the player’s performance alone and was extremely time consuming. Score events are the best events, dont fix what’s not broken.
Based on the play file.
Of those who have or have had the developer tag
“EdVanSchleck” is the person who put the most effort into the game.
According to his battle replay, he didn’t finish everything in this marathon.
Unless he chose to pay for it.
Not exactly. The unstated goal of any holiday event such as this one is to keep you playing your old game when you probably received newer, shinier ones at Christmas.
there were only a couple of days of the entire event where I didn’t easily get the 50 rally points and “a few” that I didn’t get 10 vehicles. If you can’t get them, you can’t get them, though. Leave them alone, take 3/5 and play again tomorrow
[Edit: I’m not trying to brag about “how easy it was for me.” This event was a grueling time sink and I’m not sure it was worth it. I’m trying to say that there was no time when I felt there were too many rally points dropped on the map and making it hard for me to get that event point. Especially since I was playing 5 rounds per day anyway, it kinda got done around round 4 or 5 without me even trying]
the amount of time necessary to play this event was what bothered me too. Especially for one of the big prizes being a German squad, it wasn’t that enticing for me. I stuck it out only to get the Russian assault squad and I haven’t even used it yet.
I don’t really have an issue with the play style aspect of this event other than one thing. It seemed WAY too common for fighter pilots to NOT attack inbound bombers before making their drops. I pride myself on that ish. If I’m in the pilot seat, squads can just go about their biz because bombers are first priority. Too many successful enemy bombing runs due to people noodling around in the sky.
This, and just like the previous paratrooper event this is also rather “unfair” due to placement of squads as rewards.
Just why, obtaining squad X in same event takes more time and effort than the other ?
Differency in this event aint much, but enough to be ridiculous.
Not kidding. I have no idea who those pilots were, but at least two of them probably cost us those respective rounds by not stopping a bombing run on final cap with ~25 attacker reinforcements left.
The thing I really enjoyed about playing the event is that there was a lot of competitive play and my rounds were mostly balanced. There were multiple attacks won with no reinforcements left; there were several defenses won after being steamrolled across the first two points then we dug in. That’s always fun.
I’m not sure he even got any infantry. I just know I was irate that I was being zeroed and shot down by faster turning Luftwaffe (with good pilots I couldn’t shake), enemy bombers were nearly IMMEDIATELY called after being dropped out of the sky, then the dude who jumped in his plane didn’t know what to do with them BUT WAS ALSO NOT BEING SHOT DOWN. No idea why they were surviving
This is not necessarily better by itself. We’ve had these “no timelock, 5k per stage” events multiple times already and these are actually harder to get all main rewards for. I remember calculating it, and while the usual “20k Exp every 2 days” was effectively 10k Exp/day on average, these no-timelock events often landed on the 17-20k Exp/day or even higher (to get the main rewards).
What we need is no timelock and with reasonable Exp/day ratios to get the main rewards. BOTH of the current event formats are inherently flawed in one way or another.
