In April of the 13th year of Showa (1938), an order was issued for the development of a 7.7 mm light machine gun. While the Type 99 light machine gun was adopted as an emergency measure, an order was placed for the trial production of three new types of light machine guns simultaneously with the completion of the Type 99’s design, followed by thorough research and testing.
Model 1 was manufactured by the Nambu Factory as a modification of the Type 99 light machine gun with an increased rate of fire. It featured a specialized design that allowed for easy assembly and disassembly, specifically intended for use by paratrooper units. Additionally, the feed system utilized the same box magazine type as the Type 99.
Essentially, in game terms, the Type 1 Model 1 differs from the Type 99 only by an increased rate of fire (although the exact rate of fire for the machine gun is not specified). The Type 1 Model 1 could become an “old Type 99” with a high rate of fire in Enlisted. I have not found any visual differences between the Type 1 Model 1 and the Type 99, which greatly simplifies the introduction of this machine gun for the developers.
Since the Type 1 Model 1 was easy to disassemble, it would be a great fit for Japanese paratroopers. Currently, Japan has a rather poor selection of paratrooper squads, and those that are available have questionable Battle Ratings.
While you can vote regardless on where you would like to see (or not see) the Type 1 Model I machine gun, I would like to share some footage from Newsreel No. 238, dated December 21, 1944. Take note of the hachimaki headbands—they could add great flavor to a Japanese paratrooper squad in the game equipped with the Type 1 Model 1 machine gun.
