These mortars should be added to the Research Tree for all factions. It fills out the missing medium 80mm mortars for some factions as well as a few additions
US:M1 Mortar
UK: ML 3-inch Mortar. For Britain to be a true subfaction it should have its own content
SU: RM-41. The final evolution of Soviet light mortars. It was their final one to see service until 1943 when they declared light mortars obsolete. The Soviets already have 2 light mortars so I don’t see anything wrong with adding a third one.
Germany: Granatwerfer 34. The German medium mortar in game is a limited, shortened paratrooper variant of the GrW 34. I don’t know why the devs chose a rare model for Germany when it should’ve been their standard issue mortar. This can be foldered with the current German mortar so Germany’s standard mortar can be represented. Cmon
Italy: Italy must receive some content if it is going to be a true subfaction. Give them their light and medium mortar
Brixia Mod. 35
Mortaio da 81 Mod. 35
Japan: Type 97 81mm Mortar
Heavy Mortars would be the unique building of the Mortar squad, bringing heavy firepower
US: M2 4.2-inch Mortar
UK: ML 4.2-inch Mortar. Built by British Mortar squads, let Britain actually be a true subfaction with its own content.
SU: 120-PM-38
Germany: Granatwerfer 42
Japan: Type 2 12-cm Mortar
Yeah, especially Japan. Their tech tree is so small I thought they were just poor.
They don’t even have large-caliber mortars, even though they already have 150mm rocket mortars.
Either the game developers were too lazy, or they were too pressed for time, resulting in the Allies and Axis powers lacking a complete mortar weapon technology tree. It is recommended that the game developers gradually add and complete all mortar weapons for all nations.
It’s not complaining. It’s ridiculous in the first place that for years the devs haven’t addressed the other faction’s lack of mortars. This is not the first post. The US and Japan literally don’t have medium mortars. Making sure all faction’s have equality should be a basic goal
There are very basic things that should be checked off
More content for a squad/ class is never a bad thing
That’s literally the point of indirect fire. Mortars sit nicely between the Artillery strike because we can use them at any time but they rely on player intuition.
The Mortar squad has been part of the game since practically the beginning so I don’t know what the issue is. Should we remove the Medic squad since they’re basically useless
Mortars are fine right now cuz they ARE useless. If they were useful imagine how boring games would be. Sorry you wanted to fight the enemy? Actually they’re in the gray zone spamming he. And the difference between even mortars and gray zone tanks is tanks (with the exception of like sig) require direct or somewhat approximate line of sight while mortars do not. There is not a way to make mortars fun to fight and mortars themselves are just artillery but more laborious as they require constant manual control to implement.
Germany and SU have 80mms so all factions at the very least must have some too. Everyone gets a light and medium mortar
Also, I shouldn’t have to explain class dynamics. Every class has a playstyle and the Mortar supports the team from afar. If you want to storm the objective use Assault, if you want to heal the team use Medic, if you want to hunt tanks use AT, if you want to provide indirect fire support use Mortar.
I know you think they are useless, but they are very useful. In my own experience there were times where the objective was undefended and enemies were capping and mortars were able to bombard the objective until reinforcements arrived
Ok give me a playstyle that gives me the gustav cannon. Or the Enola gay. Since we want to accommodate each playstyle. German and Soviet 80mm were also a mistake. A mistake we don’t have to make twice.
And ps: the LAST thing you should be doing if the cap is unattended is spamming mortars from the back line. I can’t believe I even have to say that.
They’re not gross exaggerations. They’re logical conclusions of the philosophy you’re trying to establish by saying all styles of play need to be implemented and new content is always good.
Do you happen to know that there was a time when mortars were OP?
I sometimes miss that time.
Every infantryman had no human rights and was treated like a piece of meat.
At that time, 300 kills and 0 deaths were standard.
