MP-717(r) needs to drop from BR 5 to BR 4

Hey everyone, want to raise this topic.

MP-717(r) is an early captured PPSh-41, taken in the first stages of the war and later reissued by the Germans. It was only ever available during the Stalingrad campaign, if you had full campaign access back then. It has never been sold or reintroduced since.

In practice it is the same gun, just slightly worse due to the condition of captured equipment. On paper the gap looks small, but at BR 5 it works against this gun every single match.

Below are the numbers for 4 SMGs in the same class: PPD-40 and PPSh-41 on the Soviet side, Suomi KP/-31 and MP-717(r) on the German side. Statcard Recoil in game does not reflect real recoil behavior, so I am only using Effective Recoil.

Table

Stat PPD-40 (BR 4) PPSh-41 (BR 5) Suomi KP/-31 (BR 5) MP-717(r) (BR 5)

MP-717(r) vs PPSh-41 (both BR 5)

Recoil is identical, 8/4, Dispersion 0.70 for both. From there MP-717(r) just loses ground: bullet velocity 430 vs 450, rate of fire 980 vs 1150. Same recoil, worse ballistics, worse fire rate. A straight downgrade with nothing given back in return.

MP-717(r) vs PPD-40 (BR 4)

This is where the case closes itself. Recoil 8/4 for both, Dispersion 0.70 for both, rate of fire nearly identical (980 vs 1040), damage matches. PPD-40 is even slightly better on weight and reload. A BR 4 gun that matches or beats a BR 5 gun on the numbers.

MP-717(r) vs Suomi KP/-31 (both BR 5)

Suomi wins across the board: horizontal recoil 3 vs 4, Dispersion 0.66 vs 0.70, damage at 100m 4.0 vs 3.4. MP-717(r) loses to its own BR neighbor on nearly every line of the table.

DPS and TTK

Calculated against a base infantry health pool with no armor (100 HP). Shots in a burst are counted with no delay before the first hit, TTK is the time to finish the kill after that first hit.

Stat PPD-40 PPSh-41 Suomi KP/-31 MP-717(r)
Rate of fire 1040 1150 990 980
Bullets to kill, 10m 16 16 15 16
Bullets to kill, 100m 31 31 25 30
DPS, 10m 114 127 112 108
DPS, 100m 57 63 66 56
TTK, 10m 0.87s 0.78s 0.85s 0.92s
TTK, 100m 1.73s 1.57s 1.46s 1.78s

To sum it up

MP-717(r) loses to both guns on its own BR while fully matching the profile of a gun one BR lower. Resupplying from an enemy ammo crate is the only thing it has going for it, and it does not make up for the worse bullet velocity and fire rate.

The BR needs to come down from 5 to 4. Its current placement does not match its strength against its BR neighbors.

It either needs a buff or a BR drop, and since BR 5 already has a gun at least on par with PPSh-41 through damage and accuracy, MP-717(r) right now is neither here nor there. Worst TTK and worst DPS, even against BR 4 competition.

All the facts and numbers are right in front of you. This gun genuinely belongs on BR 4, with reload brought in line with PPD-40/PPSh-45, and it would actually become relevant again.

Makes sense, if only because br4 ppd40 is a bit better.

I would leave both ppsh41 and Suomi in br5 however (because I see future ppl asking to lower those too)

Yes, the PPSh and the Suomi are equal. And it’s unlikely they will be moved down to BR 4. But this rudiment from the times of the Stalingrad campaign is barely playable right now; it needs either a buff or a drop to BR 4. Especially after the introduction of the Suomi—this gun looks completely useless now.

make it make sense while leaving ppsh drum at 5

Well, that’s exactly the point. The Suomi and PPSh-41 stay at BR 5, while the MP 717(r), just like the PPD-40 and PPSh-2 [PPSh-45], stays at BR 4. It all seems fair, even considering that the PPD-40 is in the regular tech tree while this thing was removed a long time ago. And considering that based on pure facts and figures, the MP 717(r) equals the PPD-40, with only minor differences.

They are diffrent guns so if you want to move the soviet PPSH down aswell do so in your own topic for that one instead of hijacking this one.
