Matchmaking and the new player experience

Hello there, this is going to be a bit of a rambly post coming from the perspective of a noob. I know I’m a noob, I know there’s plenty I don’t know, so if my ignorance is showing, I’d very much appreciate explanations on things that my assumptions are simply wrong about. Also being my first post, if I put this in the wrong area, a quick message telling me where to put it is all I need and I’ll delete and repost in the proper section.

So, I started really playing 3 days ago, I’ve put probably 12+ hours into it so far and I’ve quickly found that the fun of this game has fallen off a cliff.

At the start it was great, I had once downloaded it before the merge update so I had a bunch of extra squads and stuff for the Germans, so I’ve been playing them quite happily, leveling up my squads and filling them out with a versatile array of options is a lot of fun and half my game time is spent choosing loadouts, but far faster than I’m progressing, the matchmaking is throwing me in way beyond my level. First I had to get rid of a BR3 tank squad because they put me into BR 1-5 range (I have nothing researched in tier 2 yet), and even after, I’m now stuck in BR 1-3 matchmaking. This is endlessly frustrating, because every game is entirely beyond anything I can respond with. I’m fighting with bolt actions, one assaulter with an smg not counting the ones in my tank crew, meanwhile pretty much every enemy I encounter has high ROF automatics, better squads, access to airstrikes and paratroopers, in one game I snuck up on an enemy tank in my own medium tank, put five AP shells into the side of it, every one aimed with a green shot marker, before being instantly destroyed through my frontal armor.

Excuse me if it seems whiny, but what the actual f$&#? Two days ago it was a war of bolt actions with an occasional automatic, now even on the best defensive maps in the game the enemy team walks through us like everyone’s a bot. The unbalance is honestly hard to believe, why am I in BR 1-3 when the only BR 3 thing I have is a single ten round bolt action rifle with shitty iron sights? And even if I take off my upgrades, the matchmaking doesn’t change. Better yet, if I go to different factions I’ve never played, they’re in BR 1-3 as well, so there’s no escaping being horrifically outclassed.

I’m good at games, good enough to know when skill isn’t the problem. The simple fact is there’s no reason to put people at my level against people of that level except to frustrate us into buying shit so we aren’t getting farmed every game.

My suggestion is as follows, RATIONAL MATCHMAKING. Base the matchmaking of what is currently equipped by the currently active squads of the currently active faction and NOTHING ELSE. It should NOT be influenced by what research I’ve completed, it should NOT be influenced by playtime, I don’t care if I get farmed by someone who’s on my level, that just means their good, what drives me to want to delete the game and move on is repeatedly facing enemy squads that have all the stuff I don’t. Skill just can’t adequately compensate for an insane tech level disparity, this has been shown by nearly the entire history of warfare, so why the hell is that the new player experience? Like, “Here ya go champ, one good day of gameplay so you get attached, then we’ll throw you directly in the meat grinder of paying players trying to grind their accounts, ENJOY!”. I want to know that when I put a radio operator on my team, I’m diving into the airstrike tier, not be desperately trying to bash my face into a brick wall to unlock them asap so I can fight back after a dozen hours of getting blasted into a red mist. Or to know that when I equip rifle grenades, things are about to get very explodey. As it is, I feel like the Russian conscripts must feel in Ukraine every time I load a match, “wtf am I even doing here”.

it is based on equipment a squads level is based on all their gear so even one piece of br 3 gear makes the squad br3, and even one br3 squad will make you br3
also br1 can face br 1 2 3
br2 can face br 1 2 3 4
br3 can face br 1 2 3 4 5
br4 can face br 2 3 4 5
br5 can face br 3 4 5

so sadly even if all your squads ar br1 you will still have to face br 1 2 3 sorry thats how it is

What are you smoking
Please do not mislead new players.

Br2 will never face br 4.

And vice versa.

BR 2 cannot face BR 4 and vice versa.

The BR system is split into 2 groups, 1,2,3 lobbies and 3,4,5 lobbies.

… What @LordBeaverbroke said, you need re read the news topic about BR, we have just 2 queue

  • 1,2,3
  • 3,4,5

Also @Wimbleston tier is not BR, the tier in tech tree 1,2,3,4,5 is were equipment is placed for divide it, but equipment of tier 3 for example can have BR 2 or lower like mp40 or lee Enfield

I love spreading misinformation in internet

That’s not entirely true, because when I first started it was just BR1, there are servers for same-tier matchmaking, they just push you out of them as fast as possible.

It doesn’t get any better as 80% of the matches I am in are one sided ass kicking’s. Sure, you can get better weapons but the actual competitiveness will not improve until the makers realize that all the cool weapons in the world will not make the game play better, only fixing the matchmaking will do that. I started a couple years ago and probably played 25 or 30 times a day, but today, I am down to 4 or 5, maybe more if a couple are somewhat competitive, but usually they aren’t. I am 60 and retired so I can play a lot, but the desire for seal clubbing is not there. Both my kids have quit playing altogether and I am playing far less. Sorry to be a negative Nancy, but I call it as I see it. My power has been off for quite a while today since I live in the Philippines, so I just now finished my 3rd game, and it has been 3 one sided ass kicking’s, so 3 is all I can stomach. But, fortunately I have Sniper elite 4 and at least their bots can put up a better fight then Enlisted’s can. The good news is I am moving in a couple days, so I won’t have time to seal club or be clubbed. Gotta find the bright spot in any situation.

First couples of battle for new players are you alone with and against bot, after some of them you enter in the normal matchmaking

yea new player get thrown straight into veteran playing low br is kinda sad ngl but of course maybe one day DF might change the system or something who knows

just realize that he mention a br3 weapon well my advice if you want to play low br is NEVER use br3 EVER unless you want to gamble your luck

So most games are just a landslide? That… Doesn’t sound like any fun at all tbh.

I think bots can use miss matched equipment, used to be the case, long ago.

Now, I do not know

The game was far better 2 years ago when I started. I would rather play level 1 against level one, period. Even if the majority of those players are bots.

Agreed, I get the impression that the matchmaking is the way it is both because aforementioned “frustration = might make people cough up some pay to win bux” and also because progression is just slow enough that there wouldn’t be enough people for high rank gameplay. Don’t we love the pitfalls of live services.

Personally BR1 should never be in a match playing anyone higher then BR2 IMOP.

Please elaborate what you mean?

br3 should not face br 5

all br should be limited to -+1

you have BR3 weapon/vehicle somewhere. check your squads.

most veterans that play low BR battles use BR2 loadouts. they also have BA rifles, just that they also have assaulter squads.

yeah game sucks with grind, but your time will come. easiest way to grind is to build rally points cause they give you extra xp and they help to win.

you either need to kill the crew or shoot at ammo rack. penetrating insignificant part of tank does nothing (e.g. shooting at chasis or engine)

you are only outclassed by skill. most people use BR2 equipment and BR3 equipment that you sometimes face against can easily be compensated for.

it is skill issue. enlisted is zerg rush simulator. to win you need to build rally point and rush cap.

it already is. problem is that you only have BR1-3 and BR3-5 queues.

while i would like more BR queues, tech disparity isnt that big. well unless you are using pz2 c to go against KV1.

game puts you into protected MM with bots and other newbies for first few battles. after you played few battles you are put into regular MM that is BR1-3 and BR3-5

lol. you are talking about times when you had BA rifles against stg44 and fedorovs? stuarts against tigers? not to mention one side full of players vs side with players and bots.

I’m a veteran, and I recently raised the issue that new players will be thrown off the game when they are put on BR3.
That’s why I still think that there should be 7BR in the game, even if the spread is ±2.
But I would still do 7BR and MM ±1.

“But that will split the playerbase, which is small”

Well maybe the reason the playerbase is small is because the matchmaking sucks???!!! 🫨
